More places to play games is a goooooooooooood thing
Yes and no. Probably doesn't matter now, but thought losing MGS, KH, and FFexclusivity to Xbox was a major blow to Sony last gen.

Except that that fits right in with Microsoft's strategy and goes to bolster both platforms. This basically proves nothing. It still gives gamers a reason not to buy an Xbox if they already have a PC.
Neither of those games are exclusives to MS or even to Play Anywhere.
Probably not the best examples to use as it actually backs up the claims made in the OP.
You have to admit that it gives PC gamers a reason not to buy the Xbox One console. It's good for gamers, but it does become a negative in that aspect.
Can you get PUGB or Cuphead on PS4? if not, then there's exclusivity, even if limited.
This.
Before spring last year PS4's lineup was meh, with Sony even admitting it had no games and needed to rely on 3rd party support.
It was three years before PS4 even had a AAA exclusive! (UC4)
Global appeal much? Its really not that hard to figure out. The xbox with its western image is a turn off to much of the rest of the world. If Microsoft thinks it can make money by pushing the xbox brand in other countries, great, but those markets are extremely limited. Its annoying when people gloat about how amazing ps4 sales are when Sony has a massive advantage in global appeal. Sony doesn't have to pull teeth to get people to buy their consoles outside of Japan. The xbox could have multiple hit wprgs on the One right now and many more exclusives and it still wouldn't convince much of the rest of the world to pick one up. So it's not as easy as saying well if the xbox had nore "exclusives" it would be doing better. Now throw in the abysmal xbox one launch and backlash for things like drm that never even happened, plus the weaker system with a higher price tag, what does anyone expect? There does appear to be more to it than bullet points like exclusives. Playstation has now dominated in sales 3 of the past 4 generations and pretty much tied the other, something else is going on there.
When folks making just blanket statements along the lines of "just get PC" I wonder just how many people of PCs that are more powerful than the 1X? (or PS4 Pro for that matter).
There's always someone who acts like Bloodborne is a system seller and doesn't only appeal to a niche demographicBloodborne released in 2015, bro.
Which was actually 1 year and 4 months from launch.

No the xbox brand is doing just fine for where it is right now. And the people who argue no exclusives or get a pc are extremely narrow minded. I have a pc and I have no desire to play console games on it. To people who enjoy playing games on pc's great, but please stop acting as if you speak for everyone cuz ya dont...
They are doing "fine", but they have had a massive contraction in sales compared to last gen and if they were being candid, Microsoft would be the first to say that this is not how they wanted it to turn out. US they went from dominating to losing, WW got even worse, and they're only going to sell about half the total amount of Xbox Ones as 360's. Arguing about exclusives may be dick measuring, but its also disingenuous to paint the picture as something MS would be happy with hot off the heels of the 360's success. Just like Sony from PS2 to PS3, they've only got themselves to blame for not reading the market right and catering to it.
The contraction imo is more because of other factors mostly the botched launch, not because of lack of exclusives, but if they do want to take that market back from Sony in the future, it will be. Imo it's going to take intriguing buzz worthy exclusives like the 360 had. Games that make people want an Xbox over a PS. The kind of Rep Halo and Gears had back in the day. I'm not even going to argue PS first party is some amazing thing because for my interests, they've taken a massive nose dive over the years, but its not about list wars, its about gaining positive public perception that your console has a sales pitch, especially against a company that appears to get sales over their competitors just for being who they are.
Which is why they need to stop going directly against the Playstation and start being different. That's how Nintendo manages to stay relevant. Sony has those relations with third party , they have a comparable online service now, they have franchises that can go against even Nintendo. They aren't going to close the gap unless Sony botches their next system which I doubt they will. Unlike Microsoft, Sony seems to learn from their mistakes.
What is this rubbish?
This is seriously Youtube level contributions.
Well when those 12 million PS4 owners finally realize that Call of Duty exists on the PC then your comment might become relevant to this discussion. There is a reason why Sony allows crossplay with the PC and wants to cock block users from playing with Xbox owners.
Xbox has the best box, the best apps, the best online, the best pc connectivity (forza horison pc /xbox joining same game is seemless), the best graphics, the best backwards compatibility and great first party games.
Once an exclusive comes out that Sony people want ( other than PUBG, cuphead etc) theres going to be a lot of soul searching by the fanboys.
Werent you there during the launch of this gen?
Yes, PS4 was declared the best system day One because of the better graphics.
PS4 sales stomper all over the One right out of the gates before. There were any exclusives, and all threads were about the better graphics PS4 had compared to the One.
This basically proves nothing. It still gives gamers a reason not to buy an Xbox if they already have a PC.
You're trying to convince others that exclusives don't play a big role in console sales and it's just not working.
Fact is, exclusives matter. Period.
If God of War and Spider-Man were on Xbox and PC, then it would give people reasons not to purchase a PlayStation console. The fact that these games are highly anticipated titles of 2018, it's only going to have a positive when it comes to console sales.
Most people buy games like Forza on the Xbox One platform, but its still a reason not to purchase an Xbox One console. The same logic applies to games like Final Fantasy 14, but the difference is that Sony is still releasing game that you can ONLY play on their platform.
Name one.
When folks making just blanket statements along the lines of "just get PC" I wonder just how many people of PCs that are more powerful than the 1X? (or PS4 Pro for that matter).
You're now blurring the lines for why the PC impacts consoles while looking for any excuse there is no reason to own an Xbox One (which is sounding more and more personal as you post). If example A there is no reason to own an Xbox One because its also on the PC then why not just say if Spiderman and God of War were on the PC there is no reason for a PS4 instead of using the Xbox One in both situations? By combining the Xbox in example B you are just confirming that the PC argument isn't as strong as you'd hope. The fact is Sony sees the PC as a less competitive platform than the Xbox, thus why they support crossplay with it and not the Xbox. It also explains why the PS4 still sells a ton of software also available on the PC and why the Xbox One is still a viable choice for some, regardless of how much you want to hammer home the Xbox One is worthless.
No matter how you feel personally, there are people who are not buying an Xbox One because they have a PC. That's just a fact a simple fact. It doesn't matter how big or small the impact is, it's a reason why some people are not buying an Xbox One.
And Microsoft is completely fine with that. They don't care if you play their games on a condole or a PC.
No, you're just getting really defensive.

I said the same thing about PlayStation because they have games like SFV on PC, but you ignored it. People are not buying PS4 and XB1 because they can't play games at 60fps. Is it a huge impact? No, but it's a reason.
You want to prove exclusives don't have a huge impact by bringing up COD, which really is not working.
Killzone Shadow Fall
Not getting defensive at all but it's hard to have any meaningful discussion with someone who struggles to stay on point. Now you want to talk about 60fps games on the PC. What's next, Doodle Jump on cellphones and why they choose that over a Switch?
And Microsoft is completely fine with that. They don't care if you play their games on a condole or a PC.
Halo has not been announced, they usually start pimping it the E3 before and rumors are that it slipped ot 2019.
Yup. It's funny that some of the people with the most posts and contribution to this topic admittedly do not own an Xbox One if you read their post history (because they don't feel justified in buying one or some other) but want to keep beating a dead horse.
Cuphead and PUBG raking in tons of money for Microsoft and their developers (both breaking records in their respective categories) don't matter, because they're not 100% exclusive (even though Microsoft is the only reason they exist on console, and for Cuphead, at all). Ori, one of the best indies of the generation, is a Microsoft owned IP. It's on PC because they allow it, and profit from it. Bu-but, it's not exclusive! It's like these people who don't even own the console want me to feel bad because I'm playing a game on said console that can be played elsewhere. Like, why?
The existence of different games does not make other games less compelling.

Actually, that is precisely what it does. Well, the games may be compelling on their own, but when you stack libraries against each other which is what the article and this thread is actually about, the value of one certainly is relative to the value of the other. So Microsoft's library may seem compelling, if it existed in a vacuum.
Everyone with gpu worth 200+ $ has pc faster than 1X the only reason why those consoles look powerfull is because they target 30 fps and then use shitload of motion blur to mask it.
The best apps? You just uncovered a wound for me and my niche needs... i still cant find an app for playing my background music that doesnt crash constantly, isnt streaming service, or doesnt have ridiculous song/folder limitations
I notice noone argued with any single point i made about being the best box with the best online, game subscriptions, graphics etc etc ..
Probably because it's actually off-topic.
I think its rather sad for anyone to insist one platform or another isnt worth owning. Does nothing but a diservice to the industry. Excuse that platform a has zero games has always been false.
No it doesn't.
Like I said in the post you replied to, I will play sony Exclusives and play ms Exclusives because I enjoy them.
It makes no difference to me what the platform there on. There just games.
Heres an example for you.
Its June 2018
Ive been playing god of war for a couple of hrs, after dinner I dont feel like playing the intence , visceral experience that god of war is, so I load up sea of thieves and chill on the seas with some friends.
Will each game effect my enjoyment of the other?
No it wont, because they arr different experiences.
