January Nintendo Direct Predictions/Expectations

I'll go ahead and post my predictions. While I believe this is Nintendo's most important Direct in several years at least, I'm do not expect anything crazy.

- Arena of Valor beta available after the Direct
- Paladins announced for Switch
- Mutant Football League announced
- Morphies Law release date
- Wolfenstein 2 release date
- Project Octopath traveler release window
- Kirby release date
- Bayo 1 / 2 trailer
- Fire Emblem release month/ trailer
- indies with EA's Fe included
- DLC for Xenoblade 2, Mario & Rabbids, and possibly Mario Oddessy
- Switch OS update
- look at Switch paid online

- a 1st party title and 3rd party title to drive adoption of Nintendo paid online.
- Fallout announced
- Burnout Switch
- Sega announces a non Sonic game.
- Ubisoft game coming in next couple of months. (Steep, South Park or R6S)
- one Tease from major holiday Nintendo title.

This might be fun. I’m leaning towards the thought that Nintendo would love to keep up their forward momentum and this month would be the perfect time - as I’m not sure of any big new releases that are scheduled with exact dates in 2018.

The crazed lunatic Nintendo fan in me predicts they’ll show Metal Gear Solid 6, completely made in secret for the Switch by Kojima...

The reasonable and seasoned Nintendo fan in me is expecting an entire direct centered around Yoshi’s new pet cat; which he probably befriends in the new Yoshi game.

-Kirby trailer and release date
-Yoshi title announced and trailer and release window (spring)
-Pikmin 4 announced with a trailer, releasing fall
-Bayo 1 and 2 trailer, releasing early 2018
-Dark Souls Collection, releasing spring, with all three games and DLC (60$, each game on it's own cartridge possibly).
-DKCR collection (Returns and TF) with Returns in HD including the extra content from the 3DS version, releasing summer
-Fire Emblem Switch trailer, releasing summer
-3rd party stuff, including the rumored Namco Bandai exclusives, Wolfenstein port, and hopefully with a look at No More Heroes
-Indies stuff including Hollow Knight release date, Super Meat Boy Forever, etc
-Super Mario Odyssey DLC
-Animal Crossing Switch announced, to be released holiday 2018
-A very brief tease of Metroid Prime 4 with announcement of the developer and a promise of debut gameplay at E3, releasing 2019.
-"One more thing"... Retro confirmed supervising Prime 4 and their new IP is announced for a holiday release with a trailer

I really do think Nintendo is gonna go all out similar to how they did in the January 2013 direct. Only this time, most of the games are releasing soon- this time around they only have one console to support, so all hands will be on deck for Switch games.

I predict that people will make predictions and then be disappointed when something they expected isn't shown.

I think besides what has already been announced, I think they'll announce the online service, and as apart of the rotation of the first months game be Super Mario Bros, Ice Climbers, and first worldwide release of Mother 3.

Disappointment

In all seriousness if the rumour is true about the direct i'd love to see a good switch OS update (mainly for game saves) and maybe some more information regarding the new pokemon game for the switch too. At this point I think the 3DS is on it's last year so i'm not expecting much from it and Pokemon Crystal will probably be the last game I buy for it. I bought both gold and silver digital boxed keys and didn't play them just for crystal to get announced...bad times for me lol

Just about what I am expecting, except:
- There will almost certainly be at least one or two "casual" games, with "new ways to play" (something they repeatedly said is in development back in 2017).
- I don't see Burnout announced
- Not so sure about Fallout being announced at this stage either (though it would be day 1 for me)
- Ubisoft will have 2-3 games shown (one of them being Starlink)
- There will be a Blizzard game (probably Hearthstone?)
- Dark Souls Remaster definitely exists, so might be announced (then again it might be announced outside the Direct due to its being a multi-platform remaster)

Not expecting any of these tbh, just voicing things I want:

Mario Maker Deluxe
F-Zero / Wave Race / 1080 (I'd take any of them tbh)
Metroid Prime 4 Trailer
Something Blizzard
Golden Sun
Diddy Kong Racing 2
Link's Awakening Remake / Skyward Sword HD
Pokemon Switch news
Animal Crossing
Get some of the fun F2P stuff over on Switch too. Paladins, Warframe etc.

Seems like we'll probably get some updates on previously announced projects, some release dates for the first and second quarter, and maybe a surprise announcement or two for the first half of the year. The big guns will wait for E3 for maximum impact.

First: Kirby, Yoshi, and others we've seen to varying degrees (including some 3rd party stuff like Fe)
Second: Indies galore
Third: "Fresh Hype -- E3 Appetizers Round 1" segment showing off 5-second gameplay glimpses of Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, and few others
Fourth: trailer of a special 3rd party exclusive due before E3
Fifth: Final Surprise of Direct = check System Update for details

Is your name also moomoopoo?

I'm almost certain that a Dark Souls remaster exists. When I consider that Nintendo and Namco have a good partnership, that Namco have said they plan to put 'all their franchises on Switch', Fromsoft is a 'partner developer' and Switch is more than capable of handling last gen remasters, I'm also fairly confident this will be coming to Switch too.

I just hope we get a lot of announcements that haven't already been shown.

It's amazing how much gaming I'm getting just out of Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 alone. Give me more titles with loads of content!

So many crazy rumors going around from a Switch DS to replace the current DS model, to the online service finally going up and I've even heard of a port of the original Red Dead Redemption to coincide with the release of RDR2, which after LA Noire might not be so crazy? *fingers crossed* on the last one portable RDR, I'm in!

I'm gonna stick with game predictions, Super Smash Deluxe, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Mario Kart 9 will be announced as "in the works."

I hope for the long awaited Metroid prime 1 HD and F-Zero GX HD... But I'm pretty sure GX won't happen this year or ever...

Nintendo also needs to average out to one physical Switch game release a week at minimum. First or third party doesn't matter, even includes the junk games.

I expect we see a dozen third party physical releases. Even if not big games. This allows nintendo to pad out the release schedule.

I think you could see any of these as possible third party ports this year for Switch, and yes, I'm expecting a few of these this year.

Borderlands 2, Metal Gear solid Twin snakes HD, Madden, NHL, PES, NBA LIVE OR JAM, mutant football league, Final fantasy explorers 2, Civilization, COD, Star Wars rogue squadron HD or battle pod, Bioshock Infinite, Shadow of Mordor or something LoTR, COD, Garden warfare deluxe, paladins, fortnite, Daytona racing or Jetset radio, Rare Replay, South Park, R6S, Hearthstone, and long shots like Overwatch, and destiny.

I also think it is possible some smaller studios or big like ubisoft or EA modify Steep or SSX and use the assets and turn it into 1080 snowboarding.

I'm hoping for a lot but keeping expectations in check. I would love to hear about an animal crossing game coming this year, smash Bros for Switch (Wii u remaster), release date for spring still for Kirby, release date for Yoshi, a sneak peak at Metroid Prime 4, online service detailed, and whatever other surprises, although I'm thinking they're holding off until E3 for anything big. Plus a reel of footage for all the third party games coming soon, some unannounced yet. We'll see if this Direct even exists.
As mentioned above, FZERO switch would be great, maybe even Pikmin 4(5?)

Ooh, prediction time.

Direct will be Switch exclusive.

Online details - I can remember them explicitly stating that the free online service is only up to January 2018. I'm guessing it will have a companion mobile app, and a free retro game every month for the month (I think this was already confirmed).

Maybe some new accessories

Game trailers and release dates for Yoshi, Kirby, Animal Crossing, and Bayonetta. Teasers/behind-the-scenes of Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon.

I just want more info on Yoshi and that's about it.

I really don't see this one being that big. Most likely it'll be:
Info on Yoshi
Info on Kirby
Info on paid online
info on third party/indies
end.

I just want to be surprised. Something small and available immediately. It’s been a while since they’ve made a game like NES remix.

I just want neat nintendo type stuff. No expectation for anything huge.

So far the January direct still a rumor right ?

In any case, I would like that Nintendo did like last year, show a lot of stuff that would be released this, and a few surprises. I really wish to see more third party games that were rumored to be released for Switch, and from the companies that were listed as partner and did not announce or release anything. I am looking at you From Software. Would be nice if the rumored SNK game for Switch is a port of KOF XIV, instead of Samsho V.

Also would be great to see Nintendo reviving some old franchise . Golden Sun, Punch Out, F-Zero, Advanced Wars, must comeback.

I’d love to see footage of Animal Crossing Switch and Pokémon Switch, even just a brief tease, but we won’t get it. We’ll just get a cheap party game or something.

Realistic expectations:

First look at Fire Emblem Switch or a time frame for when we'll first see it.

Pipe Dreams:

A sequel to the game in my avatar.

All I really want to see is what Retro is doing these days. I hope it's something awesome, but if it isn't, it'll still be entertaining. Hope we get a confirmation of a Direct tomorrow.

Danjin44

The nicest person on this forum
I would like to see some info on Xenoblade Chronicles 2 story DLC and the new Blade.

I want this comment to be picked up by Resetera as well. That 4chan leak may have some truth to it. It can't be everything in the Direct though. Other than GTA V, it shows no other titles from *western devs*.

No one has commented on this. Is this person leaking the Japan Direct? This is not the NOA Direct, but it could include these titles with some western titles.

It also mentions no Indies. Morphies Law Dev teased we would hear from them in January on Twitter.

It also doesn't mention Paladins which is heavily rumored. No mention of EA Fe either.

FFXV could have been ported to unreal engine 4, or if could be the Pocket Edition we saw last year.

So this is possible. I hope it is more exciting than this leak, but again this may only be the Japanese portion of the Direct.
