Monster Hunter World |OT| Where The Wild Things Are

I not quite sure how the Argosy works yet... I've been switching back and forth between trade in and crafting materials each time... How do I get zenny out of the trade in items?

*wow thanks for the tip! I was sitting on almost 200k zenny and didn't even know it! Haha just bought vanilla armorcharm to stack with talon charm and my defense went from 239 to 251. Dang!
I did material shipments at the start, but it just gave me garbage. You can easily just farm materials if you need it. You need so much zenny for upgrades, so it's better to get money because the Argosy gives a shitton.

I beat the HR49 Kirin earlier. That was definitely the first spot that felt really challenging so far. I had to just be so careful and take so much time. I'm up to HR51 now and I can already see how crazy the end-game grind is going to get.

The other ammo types seem to be really good now after the changes. Piercing and Spread are doing pretty great damage though it takes a bit more positioning to get optimum damage. It might be because I'm using a high damage and high recoil heavy bowgun but I was surprised with some of the shots I got.

Lv. 3 Focus with Wyvernsnipe is really good too. The recharge on it is really fast and the damage is nuts when you land it in a weak point and a good pierce. I think I did about 1000+ to an Uragaan as it was facing me.

For once I am trying out bow gun builds and find it real hard to decide what kinda mods I would like to go with.
For the most part its either recoil, or more power - at least with LBGs, HBGs got the added benefit of higher mags and enough fire power.

Guess it all depends on the gun I'm using. That being said still getting used to effective range with shot types- it ain't as easy as bows mhmm, makes me feel like a scrub lol

Bowguns are more complicated when it comes to picking one out. You have to look at ammo types and the different recoil and reload.

I'm eventually going to make the legiana hbg pierce and the nerg lbg for spread.

Yeah I have decided to run paolumu lbg for ice and water shots and bezel for fire and thunder.

Also made the onigashima and the arena lbg for fun with spread shots and status. Making an armor set is also p flexible this time around- might get more versatility than pure dmg.

Oh jeez you guys make bow guns sound so complicated, glad I started with just the actual bow haha and that being said I'm glad I've been saving all the ammo from all the quests I'm going on and stuff so I will have a lot when I actually want to try the guns

So I started playing around with Hunter Horn last night. I've always wanted to give it a real shot, since I like the idea of KO/Exhaust but didn't really jive with Hammer. Plus buffing your bros sounds like fun. I never expected how satisfying the moveset would be.

Also, it can't be overstated how awesome it is having the song notes needed and the song notes already played + what you need to finish the song in the top section of the screen. I feel it really takes down some of the learning curve and lets you just naturally start remembering the notes without making it too difficult.

Those R2 moves....I'm in love.

I too have come to love the hunting horn. I had been playing bow my first 60+ hours and noticed there were a lot of us online. Then I thought about how nice it would have been to get a stamina reduction buff or something so I decided to do the community a solid and learn the weapon.

Why aren't there more hunting horn players?! It's so much fun!

One day I'm going to learn how to Hunting Horn but I've already resolved to learn Charge Blade after being a Lance guy for so long.

I've noticed that it's much harder to capture HR monsters than it was LR?

I'm not getting the pulsing skull icon which usually tips me off when they can be captured.. now the status can blink red, the character icon can flash, and the can be seriously jacked up and limping around but for some reason it won't let me capture them?

Very frustrating in the arena when i'm wanting to get bonuses for capture.

It's not quite that complicated but it does take a bit to figure out the build that jives with you best.

I usually just watch the icon in the lower left and wait for it to start blinking on the map and the heartbeat to get erratic to try and cap in the arena. It can be tricky still though.

Arena usually doensn't show it because they can't run away. It's usually that red icon thing. Also, I do so much damage that I don't realize that they're weakened. Sucks having a so much stun on them that they can't even run away lol.

if you're fighting in the arena, I suspect they won't have the skull showing on the mini map since the monster can't exactly go back to it's nest to retreat and rest up. I've been capturing monsters in HR for a few days now and as long as it's out in the wild, I had been seeing the skull icon, so I'm pretty sure it's still there. for arena, just look at the monster and pay attention when it starts limping and it's EKG is getting to close to flat line. only try to capture when that happens, not when they got that last wind while they're really close to death and their heartbeat is beating strong again for a little bit from the adrenaline.

on a side note, I finished solo fighting HR Kirin and it's still a really tough fight like when I fought it in LR. I had the un-upgraded Kadachi alpha set on along with elemental resist (L) food buff and thunderproof mantle whenever it's off cool down. using a ice bow since I don't have a fire one. got carted once but still managed to cheese a win out of it so I'm happy. I actually tried getting a SOS first but then the 3 people who came to help all don't have any idea on how to fight Kirin it seems. we wasted 3 carts and failed the quest. I decided to try again with a 2 man session this time, feeling that the Palico buddies would be more useful then another 2 players who don't know how to gear for the fight. ended up nobody join the session, so I just try soloing it. I find that spaming the bow's arc shot is super useful, especially when Kirin is fighting my Palico buddy. the barrage of hits from the arc shot would knock it out very often, opening it up for some punishing power shot/dragon piercer combo. let me know if anyone want some Kirin gears. I'm going to try farming him a little in the coming days.

I feel like I'm hitting the end. Most of my gear is great, but missing some jewels. I just need some more attack jewels and a crit boost, and a hero streamstone for my bow.

My assessment on weapons:
Dual Blades - The best melee. Requires no ramp up. Does crazy damage from the start to finish while being extremely mobile.
Bow - Does consistent damage at a safe distance. If the monster is too annoying for melee, bow will do more damage than dual blades.
Hunting Horn - Best weapon for stunning and all that crap. The only way I can solo nerg and break his horn by stunning his face. It really isn't a support weapon.
Hammer - Hardest hitting, especially with my build. If the monster gets stunned and immobilized a lot, the hammer is great.

Now for the not so enjoyable weapons.
HBG - Haven't played it when it got nerfed. Really doesn't feel good with the slow movement and lack of defensive abilities. I really hate using ammo too.
Charge Blade - Really can't enjoy this weapon. It supposed to do a lot of damage, but, in reality, if you're not doing everything perfectly, you will lose so much damage because the monsters just jerk around and make you miss your attack, especially the ultimate attack. As for guard points, I can do most of them, but you need to be Daigo to guard point all of the attacks.
Long Sword - Just like the charge blade, this requires a lot of ramp up. It does good damage, and the ultimate is easier to hit, but the attacks are so slow that dual blades end up beating it. You can still miss the final spirit blade a lot, and it feels really bad. If I want to play melee, I'd just stick with dual blades.
Switch Axe - A pretty hard hitting weapon, but it's really stationary. I don't like how immobile it is, and the ultimate attack is pretty meh. Also doesn't do as much damage as dual blade.
Lance - I tried it out while leveling and definitely don't dig this style of "tanking". The attacking feels so bad and slow while not even feeling like it's hard hitting.

Haven't tried LBG, Insect Glaive, Sword & Shield, Gunlance, Great Sword. I'm making a nerg LBG, Sword & Shield was pretty weak when I played it in the arena, and I hear Insect Glaive is pretty weak damage while having to deal with the annoying insect mechanics. Going to make a Great Sword, but I have the feeling it's not going to feel good. Gunlance probably has the same problem as lance, so I'll do it later.

^I definitely do get annoyed with the longsword sometimes. It's a ton of buildup and then even when the monster is laying on the ground immobilized, the damn jump attack misses the spot you're going for so often. If the monster is on a weird elevation or near a wall, you know you're about to waste your final spirit air attack.

I should really try out the dual blades.

how in the world does one get to HR 53 and still don't have all the camps in Elder Recess unlocked is beyond me. and I'm not talking just the last one at 16, he doesn't have access to 8 either. at the very least get them for your own convenience man!

if I may...
POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD!

When you get farther into the game (beyond high rank) you get to meet Kirin. If you want to succeed with Kirin, dont vail away at him, like so many others do. use your head and wait until he has done his attack, then smack him once or twice and roll away.
I've been on so many missions where he was the target where people died like flies because they where WAY to agressive. dont be that guy please.

it really is one of the real test of skill for the players in this game. especially since you don't really need to fight him story wise, lots of people don't even have any idea about Kirin and how much pain they're in for. I main bow so I can kinds cheese him if solo. and I highly recommend that if you want to fight Kirin with other people, just set the quest to 2 players Max and pop the SOS. most of the time your Palico would be more useful then any noob player.

Fighting this giant Barroth for the Ryu costume kinda blows. The mud it drops is massive and merely grazing it pulls you in to the center lol. Only need to kill it a few more times.. -_-

Absolutely obsessed with this game at the moment, went with Glaive. It's super stylish and fun and that's what I care about. Have the trident one called 'truth' I believe, the Negigante one 'Catastrophe's Light' and I'm just about to get the Diablos one.

Back in the day everyone thought Kirin was just a Great Kelbi, and promptly got wrecked by it. Loving what they done to it with its majestic mane.

Having just done a few high ranking missions, all i can say is that Bazel, the B22 Bomber is frustrating AF to deal with when trying to hunt other wyverns like Rathalos or Diablos.

I've basically played the entire time in co-op so far with someone I know IRL. It's awesome that way, but I notice that when I do fights solo, it feels easier. The monster parts break more quickly, I'm able to dodge more effectively, ect. Is the health/defense downgrade in solo that massive or am I just playing with someone who isn't pulling their weight?

Yeah, everything is easier solo. Monster health and breaking, etc. get nerfed. The only way I can farm nerg's horn is to solo him. It won't break easily in 4 player unless everyone was hammering his face.

Damn, well no wonder. We were doing tempered Kushala earlier and we purposely dragged the fight out so we could each hit it in the face every chance we got, and we never broke it (long sword and charge blade). I guess I'll solo more often for some of these hard to get parts.

I've made it the entire game without Capcom turning on the Desire Sensor™ until friggin'
Xeno Horns.
. Everyone goes for the tail but never the head.

finished 2 of the last elders last night and have to wait til I'm back home from this trip to do the last part. I have to say thou, I do love the set pieces and the presentation of those 2 fights. seeing the silhouette of a dragon in the midst of a freaking tornado of razor sharp crystals; and lava just out right exploding right underneath you as you're fighting the monster that controls it really puts the epic into these fights. I was almost done with the third elder too but sadly got my last cart when it's down to it's last breath too. just have to wait to get my revenge now. I also realized I have to go farm some of the "earlier" monsters in Forest and Vale since I'm short on their materials now. oh well, I'll get it's ugly ass soon.

Even with Kingdom Come out and I borrowed ACO from a friend, I keep playing Monster Hunter instead. 235 hours now.

Edit: 1 faint level 2 threat, dude joins then leaves. Game over. Rage inducing!

Yeah, sometimes I remember that other games exist, but I still play this instead. My VR headset is collecting dust all of a sudden.

I do still play some Rocket League on PC but let's not compare 2 hopeless addictions.

lol yeah no kidding, I have a huge backlot also and I'm sinking every waking hours in MonHun too. already over 150 hours now I think.

probably gonna grind out the rest of the story stuff later on when I'm home Sunday night. want to finish the last of the elders and move on to final boss. then back to SOS and stockpiling stuff from hunts. I actually got the achievement for 100 games playing co-op online so that nice I suppose lol gonna just chill and remote play on Vita to do some easy bounties and stuff tonight.

I can't believe I managed to solo Pink Rathian, I'm so glad I decided to give Lance a try, I was struggling so much before and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have done it with any other weapon, kinda wish I could use well enough CB since that weapon is just so cool but oh well, I guess I'll main Lance and hopefully I can get good enough with HH or SnS.

I plan on branching out more later on and start using other weapons too. maybe start from the basic versions and use them to hunt lower tier stuff like Great Jagras, in the Forest and work your way up to higher builds while getting use to the move sets. trying out the arena quests in the gathering hall is a nice way to do it too. they force you to use one of a couple sets of weapons and equipment so it's a great way to test the water.

Yeah, I need a good lance or gunlance to fight diablos. I just hate his digging bullshit, and you can't farm the screamer pods either.

Vaal Hazak never seem to drop its fangs for me, just got done with my lbg set- gonna start making some some Long swords, dual blades and maybe insect glaives.
I love the part breaker charm, man can pretty much break anything in a single gunlance combo!

They are a two star drop, I have the full Vaal armour apart from gauntlets now and fangs drop so rarely... even breaking the head. It's a very easy fight to farm though imo. Hope you get them soon anyway.

They sometimes come from breaking the head, but I get membranes instead. Definitely have to do non-tempered vaal hazak for a chance at the reward.

It's too bad that Vaal Hazak weapons are literally the best tree for almost all the weapons. Greatsword, Longsword, Charge Blade, Switch Axe, Lance, Gunlance, Insect Glaive are all better as Vaal Hazak when you have handicraft 5.

Well, they have a slightly lower raw damage than Nerg, but the sharpness can go white, meaning it has more damage with white sharpness. It also has a level two slot instead of one, which my build needs to have level 3 crit boost and weakness exploit. Also has more dragon damage.

Got to that stage where I cant slay Nergigante, so technically I wont see the rest of the game.
