Sony announces Playstation Classic Console

Honestly, I'd prefer to buy the games on PSN store and play on the PS3 if I cared enough but it's a nice idea if you're into retro stuff.

I love the original PlayStation (it was my first home console), but this is a poor offering in my view.
I mean, you don't even get a DualShock controller.

Will wait to see how easy it is to hack in more games. I own an NES and SNES Mini but only because it’s so easy to add games I actually want.

"Pre-loaded with 20 games" insinuates that more games can be loaded. Regardless Ill probably buy this.

Nope.

This is neat and it has a couple of interesting games but it’ll be pretty useless for anyone that owns a PS3. I think these mini varient nostalgic consoles aren’t a great fit for Sony outside of maybe a PS2 version.

Crash Trilogy, Spyro trilogy, RE1,2, FF7 and Medevil got a remake on ps4 ( some are not released yet)

who's gonna play Tekken 3 when you can play Tekken 7 ?? be honest

i doubt i'm gonna get it for MGS 1 and Crash team racing alone since both of them are playable on the ps3

they should just add ps1 library to the PSN on ps4

Wonder what this compartment is for - for cables to hide, maybe 2 x AA batteries, or maybe new games slot? Interesting...

Probably just to mimic the original's design look. I used to keep that plastic plate as a trophy any time I chip modded a PS1. Somewhere I have a little box with like 200 of them.

While true, the "mini" has been popularised by Nintendo. Like a lot of things are.

I mean look at Sega, they have been making them with atgames for a while... but they have "announced" a new one that's basically the same as the previous one that no one took notice of before the "mini" craze...

Well that's just simply untrue. All of it. :messenger_medmask:

Tell me what’s not true about it? If you play Fortnite, as an example, on PS4, you can play with people from PC and Switch, but not Xbox One. If this is not true then please elaborate.

Here you can see that PS4 can play cross-platform with anyone except Xbox One. I don’t know why you are so stubborn about this?

Somewhat tempting, but I barely touch my SNES Classic so I think these retro consoles just aren’t for me. I can’t play all the new games I want to do to lack of time so I rarely feel like revisiting old games.

It says right there, PS4 cannot cross-play neither Xbox nor Switch.

I believe it was Tekken 5 that had all the classic Tekken games packaged along with it. Tekken 3 is an amazing game. It can't be compared to Tekken 7. Tekken 3 had Jin Kazama before he turned into Devil Jin/karate Jin. Tekken 3 was the best Tekken until Tekken Tag came out. Tekken 3 also had minimal load times, it was perfect.

I'm kinda bummed about no Analog. I mean, that was a big deal with Resident Evil and other various games.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking when I first saw the thread. All the games are playable elsewhere. It would have some value if it were filled with lesser-known Japanese cult games eg Klonoa or Polyphony Digital's Omega Boost, but I don't see why anyone would want to pay the price Sony is asking to play technically inferior versions of games that are either available via other PlayStation platforms or have been remade for the HD era.

Several of my favorite games on the PS1 weren't so popular (Megaman Legends, Tomba, Brave Fencer Musashi, X-men vs Street Fighter) so I doubt they'll be apart of that 20. I may buy one once someone hacks it and I can upload PS1 games to it (as the SNES classic isn't strong enough to handle that), until then, that price ain't worth it.

TEKKEN 3!!! That's almost worth the price alone. I wonder if they managed to remove Gon or made some kind of deal.

No AC Adapter is just dumb, though. That's a purely Nintendo move.

Sorry Xbox, but no one wants to play Blinx the Time Sweeper or Brute Force again.

I might get it strictly as a collector's item, but I can already play all these games on Vita and PS3.

Oh my, I stand corrected. I was so certain that PS4 could play with Switch that I didn’t read it myself.

I’m sorry for being the stubborn one, and eat my own words!

Choosing only 20 games for a "best of" PS1 collection is quiet hard to do. I hope they really deliver the best of the best and most iconic titles. I also don't get why people expect dualshock controllers. The analogue controller was introduced fairly late in the ps1 lifecycle if I remember correctly. So rolling with the "original" controler seems the more authentic choice to be honest. At least I think so.

EDIT: I really really hope they include Resident Evil 2. My PS3 is no longer working properly (controller is broken) and it would be nice to replay the original game before the remake launches. I suppose a save-feature will be included in the classic system, no way including FF7 would make sense if not.

I'm really happy for this and I also wish Sega would listen and release a Saturn or a DC just like this. It would be awesome. These mini consoles would be like Pokemon to me, I would collect them all.

You got that right!

Wait wait wait... are you trying to tell me... that CoD is popular??? :messenger_open_mouth:

Okay, toning down the snark:
The implication in the original tweet you quoted is that people actually want to play Xbox classics (like Blinx and Brute Force), when the reality is likely further from the truth. Halo 1 & 2? Absolutely (although maybe less so now that MCC exists). But let's not pretend that Xbox 1's non-Halo exclusives were anything to write home about.
That said, the 360 library is legitimately good so there's that. But that's an entirely other generation from the Classics so.. yeah. Kind of a moot point.

I am saying your post, "Sorry Xbox, but no one wants to play Blinx the Time Sweeper or Brute Force again." is pointless. If you don't understand why, I'm not going to explain it lol.

Not for me but I hope it will help some kids to enjoy some very classic titles that they never would have played without it.

The point of these things is to have an awesome mini replica of the console, which happens to play some games too. I have the Famicom, Gold Famicom and Super Famicom. Looks dope on my shelf. I'm getting this too.

No he's trying to tell you there's a large range of games on both systems from the past varying in popularity that a lot of people still want to play regardless if you prefer one title over another. What improvements will these games have? So Sony is charging for non improved games while Microsoft gives us free 4K remasters? Which is the cusp of the issue here, this is anticonsumer as fuck when it's known the PS4 can play these titles and Sony shouldn't receive praise or money for it.

Wow, I can pick up RDR for Xbox One for free?
Oh wait, it's nearly FULL FUCKING MSRP, 8 years later. https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/product/Red-Dead-Redemption/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8025454082b
But seriously, I understand your point. Xbox's BC is great.
However, it's not really comparable to the classic consoles (which has a very specific audience), despite what Xbox's PR may have told you.

That said, I've got work to do so I'll be back to respond to any console war garbage later in the day.

I have nostalgia for that era in gaming, but this is just bad. That price is way too expensive even if the list of games is great. Low poly PS1 does not hold up like NES and SNEs does.

If they made a mini original Xbox, would it be normal sized? 🤔

You do realize Blinx and Brute Force aren't the only games from the original Xbox that are bc...right? I still don't understand what you are trying to say other than Xbox bad Sony good. If you're a Sony fan that's great, so I am, but to say no one cares about the bc program for original Xbox games is idiotic.

How any other post is begging for Resident Evil... It will not happen, it is an age restriction sensitive game EVERYWHERE. Sony will not put games on there, that will stop Mommy from buying this for little Timmy IN DECEMBER!

Xbox Mini will fit in your living room... at last :D

They're very specific about the "pre-loaded" 20 games. I take that as you can add more games to it.

At $100 the thing should play discs.

And I wonder if it will upscale the games. Can't imagine these games looking nice on a huge screen.
