Spider-man into the Spider-verse

I haven't seen it yet but it looks like a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to seeing it tomorrow. Glad it looks like we got a really good Spider-Man movie again.

I don't use the word fun to describe movies often, Tremors and Army of Darkness are the only ones I can think of, but this movie certainly looks like hella fun!

I hate multiverse plots, so I'll wait to see this until its streaming. But I hope it does well so we get non-multiverse films like it

I too hated that concept because it takes a character you like and ads a trope of a duplicate or lookalike that isn’t actually your favorite character.

But then rick and morty happened so now I’m content with it.

This movie is legit awesome. The animation style was a little off putting for me at first but quickly it became “normal” and it’s a beautiful movie.

Great story, great Spider-Man movie. Don’t write this off, it’s really good

When I saw previews of this awhile back I thought it looked pretty mediocre. My buddy saw it the other day and said it was one of the best movies he’s seen in awhile, plus it’s getting really good reviews everywhere. I may go see it next weekend.

So happy to read this.

The movie was pretty good. The background got a little to blurry at times though. One of the best movies I've seen this year I feel and simply just all around solid. It kinda felt like a 90s movie to me.

So here's my concern: it looks like a teen/kids movie that's trying to teach the viewer some bullshit about always being yourself or believing in friendship or whatever. That's fine and all, but I'm not the target audience there. And good Lord I don't want another origin story. Am I wrong? Is there some substance in the movie that I can appreciate as an adult?

Don't all the marvel/dc movies try to incorporate some kind of message or theme? I'm pretty sure all movies do that actually...

I mean I can’t speak for all adults, I’m just a 33 year old dork, and I loved it. I don’t think it’s a kids movie, in the sense of “Frozen” or anything like that.

It’s a really good story. Give it a chance. As far as the origin story I mean yeah it sets up who Miles Morales is but that’s nowhere near the majority of the movie. It’s full steam ahead pretty quickly

Agreed, 33 year old nerd here too, and the origin story is only a few minutes of the storyline...its pretty much a side-plot.

It’s definitely an interesting art style.

At first it felt like I was watching a movie in “low framerate mode” or something but I got acclimated pretty quickly

I didn't find the idea of many Spider-Mans in the same movie interesting before watching it but the movie was very good. Definitely the best Spider-Man movie since the Raimi trilogy. Great movie.

Honestly, I'll need a rewatch to decide but this may have topped Spider-man 2 as my favorite Spidey film. Something that is really impressive is that this feels like both the most light-hearted and mature Spidey film at the same time. There are so many characters (not just heroes, but villains as well) yet everything feels so nicely balanced that it just works. The music is pretty solid too especially the Prowler's theme which just ramps up the tension (reminds me of Joker's theme in Dark Knight or Winter Soldier's theme in Cap: WS). And of course the animation is just out of this world, it's a feast for the eyes the whole way through.

I really hope this does well enough for a sequel (since this coming weekend is ridiculous: Bumblebee, Aquaman, and Mary Poppins Returns. FOX was smart to move Battle Angel Alita out of that weekend that you would think at least one of the others would have followed suit), it totally deserves one.

This is hands down one of my favorite movies of the year, one of the best-animated films I've seen in the past decade and one of the very very few times I see a movie twice and want to see it a third time. It just does so much right and ticks all my boxes for a good story. The character of MIles is downright impressive for a movie covering so much, yet, it never at all felt clustered or overwhelming. And how they did so much with him in ONE film (actually blending a bunch of elements from his history in the comics into his origin story here) was really damn impressive.

The other spider-people were fantastic and Nicolis Cage needs to be in more animated movies after this. Hands down though, the music and animation. The former just is so this is Miles that I love it. It makes you completely connect to the character even more and it still somehow sounds like a Spider-Man score. And the animation.... It's breathtaking. It's original. And it's nothing like I've seen in CGI animation. This is the next evolution for animation for the coming generation of movies and I can't wait to see more of this.

And when people say 'animation is for kids'... This movie feels like a legit MCU film with how much is at stake and how they aren't shy to be dark (this fits tonally with moments in Infinity War impressively enough). Best spider-man movie ever made, best marvel film this year and I want more.

The art style was perfect.

I just heard lord & miller on the Empire podcast that they pitched this idea to Sony without knowing if they could do it.
They ended up hiring the right people and were able to do this CG with animation hybrid that looks just like reading a comic book. Well done on them

Watched on Saturday with my little brother. Both enjoyed it a lot. Great visuals and music, a lot of funny moments too.
First was choosing between Aquaman and Bumblebee. But I think Spidey was the best choice.

That's true, lol. I went to their "Making Of" Seminar at Adobe MAX and they mentioned that. I met the directors, visual artists, and developer. They seemed very humble and after they explained their process on the visual side i knew i had to go watch it. Glad I did!

Can you elaborate?

I'm not a fan of multiverse stuff when it comes to Spider-Man or all the Spider people Marvel keeps crapping out, I hate most alternate takes on Spidey characters so I was pretty much out once I saw ultimate Goblin, I can't stand the animation style regardless of the supposed intent behind it, Gwen's godawful haircut isn't something I feel like looking at 2 hours, and Zoe Kravitz as MJ doesn't work for me.

I'm honestly only a fan of the classic Spidey I grew up with so I just don't have the tolerance for all the nonsense everyone keeps pulling with him nowadays.

That said, I was actually leaning towards seeing the movie initially since Miles actually looked interesting for once and the awful animation wasn't as apparent in the first teaser but once they started incorporating everything else it was a pass for me. I'm sure it's a well made film it just isn't for me is all.

You know that adult Peter Parker is in this, right? Isn’t that classic Spidey?

Yes, that is classic and adult Spidey. The version who, I'd like to think of, is the most human being out of all of them (despite the fact that they all have great stories as well)

I saw it last Saturday. Theater was packed. At first I thought I wouldn't like it. But it became my favorite Spiderman movie yet. Haven't seen this type of animation before, closest thing to it is a stop motion animated film.

Yes.
So much fun.
Day one blu ray.

Nick Miller as Spider-Man was all I dreamed. <3

Animation top notch too, it really works in motion IMO.

I’m going to do something I haven’t done in years. Three movies in one day. Going to see Spider Verse, Aquaman and Bumblebee.

It sounds like all three are doing quite well review wise and word of mouth.

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Went to see this last night, and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan, per se, but I typically enjoy the movies and this was no exception.

The animation was really on point, and the script was a lot of fun.

After initially seeing the preview I thought this was going to be a tv show?? Anyway, animation seems pretty wild. I’ll check this out at some point for sure.

This movie was great and it was like 60% Miles, 30% Peter and 10% everyone else. Some adult themes handled very well, and the music matched the animation in a great way.

It was a great movie and had like 6 origin stories. It was way to dark for a kids movie btw. Probably the best Sony spider man movie.

It was great! I was thrown off at first and thought the blurry/comic book effect was a 3D version being shown. I felt embarrassed afterwards when I realized I was wrong. Maybe there'll be more of Peni and Spder-Ham in the sequel/spin-off.

Will echo it was pretty dark and probably not for kids under 10 depending on the kid of course. It's not six origin stories though, not really. It's Miles origin story with a total of maybe 5 mins split 6 ways for everyone else. More like Origin cliffnotes really.

Really enjoyed it.
The animation style and visuals actually worked really well on the big screen (I wasn't that keen on the look in the trailers). I thought it was a really beautiful film at times and I really loved the use of colour for some really trippy visuals (I definitely want to watch this film again while high).
The film was also pretty funny at times and the action scenes were easy to follow. If they can keep up this quality I'd definitely be interested in seeing many more of these animated Spider-Man films. I think I enjoyed it slightly more than Homecoming.
