[WIRED] Exclusive with Mark Cerny, PS5 specs detailed

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
MS will jump the gun on this and reveal their cards, make adjustments and announce the NexBox at E3, And will be chuffed they bettered the PS5 specs announced.
Spencer will run into Cerny at the E3 Conference and say
"Is there anything else we need to know about PS5"
with a big smile ☺

Well, it has backwards compatibility to PS4 so I will definitely jump in, but I hope our corporate Sony overlords relent on their censorship practices and stick to including rating guidelines only by then.
I found a website called "Google" where you can type "porn" and a megaton of boobs, dicks, asses and vaginas fill your screen! It satisfies your sexual desires so much more than pixel cleavages! Give it a try!
Console games don't need to be sexual, consoles exist for mainstream gamers, there is plenty of sex games on pc to satisfy that particular niche of gamers.

Dude needs to stfu with hearing stuff and not saying anything and then comes out with “i heard this before” after it’s revealed. Hey guess what, everyone heard it before your tweet.

Even if he's more successful than I am right now, Jason is pretty damn annoying and he acts like he special about knowing these rumors when we be hearing them before his ass does😂😂😂.

It probably won't matter what specs nextbox will have. As long as Sony don't announce a price before MS they can just undercut if PS5 turns out weaker. Price will trump power to the average consumer.

What a stupid post.

Sounds nice, but I'm very skeptical on the raytracing part. Techincally, my calculator is capable of raytracing.
My best bet is, we'll get something like current nvidia capabilities on PC right now at most - raytracing applied to certain areas (be in shadows or whatever), which is barely noticeable unless you compare screenshot vs screenshot. Anything better isnt event runnable on current PCs, and with their budget constraint, I just see no way how they'd want to have any 'real' raytracing at playable fps.

I remember eurogamer confiming Horizon Zero Dawn 2 in prodution. Who knows... maybe so much info slip out and Sony admit in the end.

A few of us have been saying for months within 450-500 price range. 500 seems realistic

Asking me a year ago I would've said that 500 is too much for a console, but seeing how some phones cost twice as much (or even more) these days it actually feels reasonable.

I can live with a $499 console that will last for another 7 or 8 years and give us quality content like the current generation has.

So having read this and reflected more, here's what I like:

- Cerny points out immediately that ray tracing can be used for far more than graphics, which is true. Hopefully the tech will be used to improve the reactivity of videogame worlds. Our physics have been lagging behind and ray tracing would likely help to present a better illusion. Also, AI pathfinding should get better.

- Sony working on the quality and utility of gaming sound is surprising and extremely appreciated. This is my favorite revelation so far. I hope Sony delivers on this aspiration to improve the impact of sound in gaming.

- SSD is a good, common-sense inclusion. Nothing mind-blowing here but it is another bullet point that attracts me to the system. I want the PS5's UI and loading to be even faster than the PS4. Switch has me spoiled. If the SSD can be leveraged to improve load times in backwards compatible games, that's another useful feature that attracts me to the system.

So far, this sounds like a system rooted in practical features that the end-user will notice right away. PS4 BC and PS VR BC is nice, but I want to know if it plays PS4 games better than the Pro. If the PS5 is a better PS4 player than the PS4 Pro... well, Sony, YA GOT ME because I was going to buy a Pro eventually. Physical PS1 - PS3 compatibility would also be something that would earn my sale, since I have large libraries for PS2 and PS3.

Nice surprise, the marketing intent is kinda obvious, they want to officially join the next gen conversation and start building hype but they're carefully not revealing key performance infos but just general architectural specs.
The console being built around SSD is the huge news here. Having the latest generation of Zen cores plus a way to stream datas incredibly fast will do amazing things for open world games, it will be an incredible leap compared to PS4.
Ray tracing support in Navi is an other cool aspect but it will be interesting to understand how it's implemented. A purely software solution would be weak performance wise but dedicated hardware like the RTX cores might take away too much silicon space. I wonder if this is one of the aspects where the ''customizations'' they asked and worked on with AMD will take place. Maybe some CUs have customized shaders that are better than standard ones at ray tracing calculations but developers still can use them like normal shader if they wish to?
Backwards compatibility is nice, it was a given in my opinion given the architectural similarities with PS4. I wonder if the games will be improved or if they will be emulated as they originally were to keep open the lucrative market of remasters.
RAM amount is an other key missing detail, probably not even set in stone, but I hope they go at least with 24GB of memory, 16GB all for the games and 8GB for the OS and non gaming functions.
In any case it's clear that this will be a huge jump compared to PS4 and with these features (especially the SSD) I think that they have decided to go for the 499$ launch price.

It depends on what the additions to the GPU cores are and how many compute units there are... would you rather have, thinking back in time, to have dedicated vertex and pixel shaders or unified shaders ;)?

Wait, what if this interview was done BECAUSE of the Xbox stream today?

Titan X on next Xbox Confirmed?

Wait what am I talking about, Stadia will have 40 GPUs running at once at 10k. ;)

What a stupid post.
Is it?
The point is, nobody buys a console BECAUSE of anime boob games. There is a platform much more suited for those (pc) because it doesn't require certifications and anyone can make any kind of game there without restrictions.
People that are seriously into those games only invest in consoles if they are very dumb.

I highly doubt that the timing was a coincidence, though it is certainly possible. My money is on Sony knew MS would drop something real today, or they wanted a preemptive strike just in case.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Backwards compatibility with PS4 is expected but nice to have confirmation on, it means I'll have a pretty big library of stuff to play at launch. It's cool that Spiderman can run well without much loading time (thanks to the SSD) but is it getting any other improvements? MSAA? Upscaled rendering? Post processing filters?

Welp, looks like I'm saving a cool grand for this next gen. Fucking SSD? And back compat. It's like they've been reading the forums and just made a checklist. If this is 500 imma lose my shit

Hey, if you're saving up a grand for it, you will have plenty of money left over for all that new underwear you will be needing.

True but Microsoft can't do much with this information. This was no specs reveal, more architecture confirmation.

But why is it "faster than any solution available on PC" though?

PS
Dayum, had this been a leak, I'd call BS.

Because more than likely the SSD NVMe chips will probably be directly connected and soldered onto the motherboard given it full speed unlike what's available in a PC. PC just can't do this. It's the upside of making a console.

If anyone have any doubt that Xbox Anaconda will more powerful than the PS5, here's and exchange from one Microsoft insider and other insider from the gaming industry, which by the way both are verified and with legit sources.

Next generation is going to get very interesting.🤡
I remember all these insiders when PS4 was reveled :D

Every single one putting XB1 having the strong hardware.

It was a good show when MS revealed the specs for XB1.

Hold up I just thought about something. They announced this in an interview and by the words of AMD. This would be the bomb we'd expect Sony to drop when they announced the PS5 at whatever show they plan on doing in lieu of E3.

What the fuck are they planning for this show!?

I just pooped a lil bit

I've got numbers and the ones i posted previously are close including the RAM specs. Things have changed but not by much. Not Sony ninjas but at the time very few people had any information and me blabbing would have fucked someone else over.

Somebody find OsirisBlack's old post with the numbers. STAT!!!

Interesting that he said a "bit more". Maybe its the old base ps4 price, but with a little raise. Who knows.

can't see them making the same mistake again
Or maybe they didn't have any real info after all.... that can be the case today.

There is a lot of buzz/fake news inside the industry too... developers with wrong specs... assumptions over test machines... etc etc etc.

But sure... NextXbox being more powerful is a 50/50 bet... you have 50% of chance to nail it right.

The console warz are over, you might have a bunch of companies fighting for the dozen or so game streaming customers but the console warz are basically done. For Sony, its pretty easy, continue to release good games, release good hardware at a competitive price point and slowly rollout additional features and services when needed.

If you are interested in Xbox, in the future you'll always be able to upgrade your Xbox, it will always be the most powerful., if you want to spend the money.. its called a Windows PC.

About backcompatibility it is a given it'll work with physical PS4 games...but what about my digital PS4 library?

Generally there is no difference, all your PS4 games get installed to your HDD already, no real difference.

MS will be more powerful. I think they’re so scarred from the PS4, they will never allow themselves to be seen as technologically inferior.

Unfortunately for them, none of that matters. PS dominate because they have the better exclusives and third party deals. Their games are better.

YO! EVERYTHING this person said was correct! That means it's very possible the PS5 will have 24 GBs of GDDR6 RAM! This is bananas! Next-gen is coming with a BOOM!
The only really megaton in that post (and that makes it looks a hell of fake) is GTA6 being timed exclusive.
I don't believe in today market GTA can be timed exclusive.

But if it is true then the Gen is over before start (well last gen was over before start too).

I think sony is trying to bait microsoft at e3, get them to overreact and over play their hand, which i believe they will do. I think sony wants to know what Microsoft is up to before they decide on RAM amounts and clock speeds. I do believe MS will give details on what the specs are for their next gen consoles are. I feel like this is Microsofts only real shot in 2019 to drum up hype for next genration so they will go all out in terms of specs and what their palns are like xcloud, games pass, etc.

I think sony made a good move here. They showed just enough of their cards to get fans excited but also kept cards close to their chest like how much RAM and clockspeeds. Sony is in such a strong position that they dont need a press conference to drum up hype for next gen, a simple magazine article will do and the fan boys will carry the message. Whatever bombs MS drops at their show sony will drop back, either with unnacned 1st party software games or use their current installed base to form partnerships with 3rd parties, i would assume. They set the trap and MS is walking right into it.
