makes sense, fair enough.

Honestly, in regards to my old account, im not trying to be active on forrms like that anymore. I asked for my account to be closed on era because I was posting too much and the same thing would happen if I came back here properly on my old account. At my age, I should be spending my time more constructively than discussing videogames with a bunch of strangers (no offense intended to anyone).

I just found this E3 so mind bogglingly insane I had to discuss it somewhere (anyone I mention this stuff to IRL looks at me as if ive grown another head)

Feel free to lurk and only participate when you want to. Discussion forums and social media in general can be highly addictive, especially when you find like-minded people that reinforce your own beliefs and sense of self-esteem, but it's a false sense of self-esteem that can have serious consequences if the particular social group undergoes a cultural shift that you don't conform to.

I bet this wanker couldn't even debate Paul Ryan without bursting into tears, yet he thinks he can go 1-1 against President Trump and win? Bitch please.

2020 can't come soon enough. I want to see Trump bitch slap half of America and SJW's can do nothing about it.

Im gonna be honest, I was around when the whole femme frequency shit went down. Apart from the fact I felt the woman was a grade 10 grifter, who profited from a wave of cut rate online feminists, I think for the most part she and her content was fine. Her opinions were somewhat fair, it wasnt being shoved in your face and the only people who really had a problem with it were people who would had a problem with any woman speaking up about anything.

what we have today is an entire forum of professional victims, who think the entire gaming industry must cater to them, include them, respect them and chase their admiration. They feel their emotions are the only currency that should influence any decision, and place direct responsibility on everyone else for their mental health.

These people can barely fuction online, never mind in the real world.

Compared to that, Sarkeesian is such small potatoes, she barely registers on their radar. In fact, I dont even think she has been mentioned there this entire week.
I'm going to paraphrase something someone posted here this week, "They don't want to change the world, they want the world to change for them". Shoutout to whoever posted that.

This is hilarious. Era is demanding this person to apologize for replying to the "wrong people", but as he's not giving in to their demands, they get even more mad.

And they are witnessing a twitter storm against them in real-time, and there's nothing they can do about it because they have no way to ban it.

Signal boosting on thier platform is a bannable offence, except when they are dogpiling someone who clearly does not give a fuck what Era says.

The thread is moving very slowly by Era's standards. In normal circunstances, it would have been 10 pages worth of dogpiling by now, but it still hasn't managed to go beyond 3. I wonder if it is because potential posters identify with the criticism they're reading on twitter, and are holding themselves to not post anything. :pie_thinking:

Normally, any thread with a hint of criticism towards Era is immediately taken down by their mods. But this one is in a sticky situation. On one hand, they have their next victim to dogpile on. On the other hand, the 'victim's' quotes are replies to users criticizing Era harshly while still defending diversity and representation (AKA, they cannot be evil nazis), so sharing those quotes for the whole Era community to see, without censorship, could lead some of their members to self-reflect about the nature of that place and possibly end up leaving. And that would certainly be very problematic for them.

For real, though, I'm tired of their bullshit. They take shit way too far.

The one thing I hate most about the way they behave is that they can talk as much shit as they want about someone or something, but as soon as that someone (or anyone for that matter) says even the least harmful of things to them, they are offended and angry and demand a respect that they have not earned.

It all started here with Adam Orth. Once the internet realized they had power, it was over.

If you really want to see how gaming turned, Adam Orth is the turning point.
Reset doesn’t happen without Adam.

JordanN JordanN if you could try to verify, I would appreciate it. It’s very noticible on everything I look at.

I appreciate your counter points, but passively aggressively snipping a post that had a lot of thought put into it and labelling it a "wall of text" isn't the best way to start a conversation. When the forum software snips quotes more than a few sentences long automatically, it just comes across as a lazy dismissal. I suspect that wasn't your intention, but probably something to consider next time.

I have previously commented on the influence of social media and the general lack of shame in modern culture here and here (wall of text warning). I think that the framing of all insults as a social pathology rather than corrective social forces is part of the problem with the lack of shame, and the anti-bullying movements have created more problems than they have solved. Tinkering with evolved behaviors always has unintended consequences. Moreover, the helicopter / participation parenting methods of the last few decades have created a narcissism crisis such that many young people are just incapable of undergoing the process of introspection and behavioral adjustment that corrective social forces are supposed to initiate. I agree with you that social media is a cause, but I don't think it's the root cause. If we imagine a scale of current year craziness of arbitrary length, say 1-5, where we are currently at step 4, I would place social media at step 2 or 3. The ideas at the root of the current year craziness already existed in academia long before the advent of social media, which simply acted as the conduit for them to infect the news and entertainment media and subsequently the culture.

Imagine that a world war breaks out tomorrow with America up against an alliance of Russia and China -- a genuine existential threat. Do you believe that we will still be fretting about fraudulent pay gap statistics or which gender little Johnny wants to be tomorrow? Do you think that this will increase the demand for masculine protection as I defined it? Would the reduced supply of males who perished in providing the protection have flow-on effects that would influence the economics, both social and financial, of production and provision?

It was not my intent to sarcastically dismiss your post that had alot of effort. It is just an old habit from the days when the forum quoted the entire post. One that doesn't need to continue.

I don't disagree with your points. Society is complex and no single force acts in isolation. The academia example is especially good because it existed before the internet. The internet has simply increased academia's cultural penetration.

I think you are focusing on broad cultural trends like the devaluation of men, male depression, the demonization of masculine traits, etc. I am focusing on clown world, the outrageous and ridiculous. For example, why we have media outlets trying to normalize bestiality? (Zoosexuality) Why do we have lawmakers literally advocating for 40 week lgestation during-labor abortions for reasons like the mental health of the mother. Where it would be less risky to the mother to just birth the baby and put it up for adoption.

So instead of framing my first post in opposition to yours, I should have framed it as an additional societal force.

I agree with you mate. I would just say that, while we are seeing the same problems, I think that you are seeing them acting in parallel, whereas I am seeing them acting in series, with the masculinity crisis preceding clown world.

ResetEra encounters possible trans imagery: "yikes" "oof" "not a good look" "what the actual fuck?" Truckload of bans, locked thread, no understanding of how to cope.

NeoGAF encounters possible trans imagery: puns, jokes, memes, and an undercurrent of tolerance. Zero bans, no lock necessary.

:messenger_ok:

Forced tolerance isn’t tolerance at all.

The vibe here has been great. I really haven’t seen any squabbles and yes, there is tolerance here that’s organic. We’re all here because we play video games, so we already all have something in common.

Speaking of which, according to that bot they have banned ~260 accounts since e3 started.
Compared to just 15 here and most of them were spam accounts. GAF has transparency, to get the same information on Era you need to use the Kiwi farms ban tracker.

This E3 really showed Era thier ass to the world, the beginning of the end for them. Actually probably phase 2 of the predictable outcome.

Swipe left and you're sexist.

Swipe right and your balls get crushed.
That's a pretty shitty topic though? I mean have your taste all you want, but the whole thread is just intended to shit on people of a certain bodytype. Even here, I would imagine a "aren't fat women ugly" thread wouldn't fly. Nothing wrong with expressing your preferences in a normal discussion, but the whole thread is disrespectful in its framing.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with closing the topic, it's was fairly bad. It shouldn't be banworthy though. A slap on the wrist, don't do it again and move along.

Well, if your forum puts an extra emphasis on being inviting / friendly towards female users and minorities, such topics are a larger issue than just being shitty in themselves. On NeoGAF it would be strange to ban for such a thing, but Resetera has a different target audience.
