Hello guys. Back after few years. I guess it was the right call to ask for a permaban on Era few weeks ago.

That place is absolutely toxic, full of hypocrisy and recently it became one of the worst gaming community on the web. I decided to request that permaban because of the way the high and mighty mods on Era kept things silenced and banned people trying to actually understand why mods didn't do anything on that Discord channel about the pedopornographic content.

Then now this terrible news about Etika guy they first harassed and mocked, now they show (fake) remorse. How cute of the inclusive, caring, kind Era community to silence every message telling the truth, showing how toxic that place has become now.

Freedom of speech on Era is a mirage. I understand not accepting hate discussions, i'm all for it, but banning everyone even remotely suggesting that not everything is black vs white is denying the very freedom of speech they want to defend.

There was infighting within the first thread, and now some users are lashing out at mods and getting slapped down. Gonna be ugly there for at least the short term, as mods ban and remove uprising threads.

That said, the struggles of another forum probably shouldn’t be what this thread focuses on. There’s a more pressing and tragic story to discuss.

I follow where the gaming news are, and Era is where they are at right now. It doesn't mean I approve the community over everything it does.
I didn't read every post in that thread cuz it was disgusting so of course I missed some real dipshit there. , And many felt the same over at Era.
You don't need to lump thousands of people into one group and condemn it all together.

I've never heard of that forum before coincidentally reading about it on Reddit and hearing about it on Youtube relatively recently - which is where the majority of the actual gaming community resides on: Steam, Reddit and Youtube. I would never desire to become a member of a select forum that has a tendency to produce echo chambers that progressively tear themselves from the rest of the world.

I've observed that particular community due to the significant amount of negative attention it has received from the gaming community as a whole. And i would describe that forum as a carefully combed community of ideologically possessed individuals; There's no healthy discussion to be had with such individuals, because the only thing that they will listen and permit are opinions that fall in line with their own ideology.

It's not as if i'm condemning them. It's just the nature of a small forum moderated by a group of totalitarians blinded by their own ideology.

I'm (not) surprised there isn't a ban/warning yet on that thread. Usually speak again Mods would mean instaban, in other circumstances this thread would be a massacre.

Nah, literally the only way era makes it is because they took tons of users from gaf. If they started from the ground up they will have already shut down by now. It is interesting how little people there realize era makes a butt load of money and the owner knows something could very easily happen there as it did here. I've been there because my Tekken friends moved to Era to make a new Tekken thread that would be a direct continuation of Gaf threads. We thought it'd be like GAF2. How wrong we were.

At first it was fine but then I started to notice the rabbit behavior of posters calling everyone racists, nazis and so on. Later I noticed something even worse: how unfairly mods acted again accusing people of racism, homofobia, transfobia on mostly groundless accusations.

Those bans are something. To me it looks like the forum was used by a mod and users to criticize a young man with clear mental health issues who subsequently took his own life, and now someone is using their moderation powers to ban people in hopes of minimizing the fallout.
