This site hasn't gone down hill since the big 'exodus', it's improved greatly. I've seen freedom of speech promoted heavily on here, and just because you were closed down because of a distasteful remark, does not mean that freedom of speech isn't still in tact. Moderators have to straddle the concept of freedom of speech and how that freedom of speech is expressed very carefully. In all honesty, I would have likely had a quiet word and not banned you, but without full context I can't decide whether it was a little premature or the result of an ongoing conversation that built to a warranted ban. It's either too harsh or completely warranted, but it's certainly hasn't got anything to do with freedom of speech per se.

I think the game is weird but my experience of those people isn't that they're pedophiles; it's more that they're stunted in their development of sexual attraction to real people.
For better or worse, it's a separate issue and I can only assume that why they're not happy about being called pedophiles.

Seems like a shitty way to treat someone to me. If he's being an asshole, give him warnings, if he's not heeding them, maybe he's not a good fit for the place. But to say "Well, we were going to kick him out permanently, but instead we decided to keep him around with an insulting tag to see if that changes things", seems, wrong.

I would not be defending this mods actions at all. Publicly shaming someone in this way isn’t fair or reasonable. Given the subject matter GAF needs to be very careful with this.

All of the mod actions on his account were related to this specific reaction toward weeb games. He hasn't been reforming, but we'd prefer not to ban him over such silly nonsense. Alternative actions like this are considered in such cases, and here it's presumably intended to get in front of the next time he walks into a thread and intends to go overboard again. Maybe it leads to some self-reflection, maybe people know he has a chip on his shoulder and to ignore rather than engage.

Maybe you should stop making unfounded assumptions about people based on what sort of games they play. I enjoy all sorts of entertainment, from silly and cheap B action movies to classic literature, from Witcher 3 to Genital Jousting, but none of that defines me as a person. From D&D to video games in general, I'm used to being stigmatized by society at large for my interests, yet I'm still leading a disciplined and prosperous life. It's always sad to see fellow gamers perpetuate the same prejudices.
