Xbox Series X... Worst name of any Console?

I'm more curious as to why it matters to you. The name is literally the last thing I care about in a console. It could be called Xbox turd, and if it plays games nicely, I'd still be perfectly happy about it.

Because he is part of the Sony Defense Force. He needs to destroy XBOX as much as possible.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
my pc kinda looks like it:

You cant beat WiiU

But the Xbox Series X will have a problem. Because I dont know if dumbians will know what that is. Its to close in name to the XBOX ONE X.

If its backwards compatible anyway and if that is Microsofts strategy going forward.

Just call it XBOX thats it.

And if you have to.... do it like amazon does. You know like Fire 7 (2019) Fire 7 (2016) etc.

So
XBOX (2020)
XBOX (2025)
XBOX (2030)

Like some car manufacturers do it too.

Oh yeah i officially declare it XBXS (sounds like Xbox excess) The name already implies that its to much of a name lol

And what happens if its going to have an S and X version?

XBOX Series X X? XBOX Series X S?

Surface Go
Surface Pro 2017
Surface Hub2S
Surface Hub2X
Surface Pro x

Those are actually different products. LOL

Of course, they are starting to carry that stupid X than over.

Its more like this

Surface Pro 5 32r5i
Surface Pro 5 32r3i
Surface Pro 5 16r7i

The above would be stupid. This above makes zero sense for a consumer product, it has to be simplified.

Hello, can i get an Xbox?
Which one?
The new one
There you go
Thanks

I'm properly confused

I'd be amazed if this is not the case.

Series X and series S are going to be like Ford Cosworth and Ghia
I have had enough exchanges with target and walmart employees when picking a game up that the scenario you describe won’t play out as often as you think. Not to mention, if you also have Lockhart in the mix, what is the “New” Xbox?

As has been mentioned a dozen other times, people that eat Gears, sweat Forza, and piss Halo aren’t going to have a problem, but if naming conventions don’t play a role in purchase decisions, the Wii U must just be a figment of people’s imagination.

What they did makes very little sense, consumers want to know what they are buying. This is yet another lesson on what not to do, but somehow MS keeps repeating the same things. (I've said it many times now, MS has some the worse consumer marketing in the world)

Xbox 4 <-boring but right to the point and easy for people to figure out

Xbox X20380xDx <-not so bright idea

PS5 vs Xbox 4 <- PS5 has a higher number, so it must be newer, better and more powerful. lol

Those are all in the surface line. If you're talking about surface pro line that's a different story.

Cross Posting this:

My initial impression about the xbox announcing their new console at the vgas just seems like xbox is a side show console to me now. Like this is the type of thing a startup company like ouya or the fabled steam machine would do. They just had xo a few weeks ago, why not announce it there? And the name is ridiculous, its like wii U levels of dumb.

You'd expect that same issue to be happening today, with three skus on the market, but it's not.

I don’t think it is as impactful when it is 3 skus in the same generation but now you are talking about 2 more next-gen skus with a similar, nondescript naming convention — where all 5 of the consoles play the same games...

They should have called it the Scotty Pippin.

On topic: Worst name ever is the @WonderSwan

Hmm dunno, I personally like WonderSwan. It's like Dreamcast; they make you think about fantastical stuff. What the fuck is a Pippin?
After Xbox 360, they completely lost track of how to name their consoles. Xbox Scorpion or whatever sounds way better and recognizable than what they are still doing. Imagine being a somewhat clueless parent and want to get your kid a new xbox. Your options:

Xbox ONE
Xbox ONE X
Xbox ONE S
Xbox ONE S discless
Xbox Series X
Xbox Series Y?

Its ridiculous. Whats wrong with Scarlett or Scorpion or etc. These sound like washing machine models.

My only guess is they probably think a name like Scorpion or even Scarlet is too "edgy" or threatening-sounding for the majority of the market they probably want to appeal to. OTOH they don't want to be seen as too "kiddy" so they don't want to name anything too game-sounding like Gamecube (personally still like the name Gamecube, but the handlebar didn't help it back in the day).

I'm still waiting for a console name that tops MegaDrive. PSX is up there but can that really be considered a system of its own? Feel like Neo-Geo is a contender for coolest console name, too.

The hell are you talking about? They only ever announced it as Xbox one.

No it wasn't, it wasn't called the Xbox One until the May reveal of the console before E3, before that it was called something else and the mockup trailer looked nothing like the Xbox One we saw at the Don Mattrick May reveal. Hence why so many people were thrown off by how "it looked like a VCR or a mid-2000's desktop."

Ya'll have bad memories.

Fatal Error?! Lmao, yeah a console is successful because of its fucking name in snowflake land is it?

Who gives a fuck what its called really? Whats under the bonnet is what matters.

Again "the new one"

It's a non issue

You'd have to be kind of special to get Xbox One X confused with the new Xbox Series X.

Huh. My guess is you have retailers scratching there heads.

Is the Xbox One X a part of the Xbox Series X? Seem logical that it would be yet its not.

Here’s my idea:

Xbox Anita.

A console designed by Anita Sarkeesian herself (all proceeds going to her of course!) - a console that won’t even have an on switch, since Anita herself despises gaming.

I think the new console is just called "Xbox" and the "Series" is just the version of it, so for example the "series X" will be the premium most powerful "anaconda" version (like the xbox one x), and the "series S" will be the "lockhart" less powerful slim version (like the xbox one S). Name makes a lot more sense if you look at it like that.

Basically just replace the word "one" with "series" and its the same naming convention as it currently is.

xbox one x = xbox series x (Anaconda)
xbox one s = xbox series s (Lockhart)

MS just got rid of the "one" branding is all.
I said precisely this in another thread. I'm certain the other will be called Series S, and will be the less powerful Lockhart. I have a feeling Lockhart will be the white version as well, in keeping with their current theme of consoles. There may even be two versions of Lockhart; one with a disc drive, one without. Though I think, at this point, having one version of Lockhart (without the disc drive) should be perfectly fine.

Microsoft is definitely playing chess here. Or so it seems...

Microosft never showed off anything to the public but the Xbox One. Ever. There were numerous "leaks" but from Microsoft themselves they never showed off anything but what we got.

If there wasn’t a console called One X then I don’t think Series X would be an issue with most people who don’t like it.

Personally I think it’s fine and it’s the last thing I’ll be thinking about if it delivers on the speculated power and proposed latency features.

I think they just went with the name "XBOX" and "Series X" just refers to higher end and we will see a "Series S" as well (just like this gen)

still a tad confusing though

Still not enough "X"es. I was expecting more compared to XBOX One X. But it has the same amount. It's not 2001 edgy enough.

Everyone screamed that the Xbox One S and Xbox One X would confuse people and that didn't happen. This is the smartphone era, people are used to different models with different features.

Not liking the tower design honestly for a set top console... it won;t fit into a lot of media shelves and even in larger enclosures, the top vent will most likely be blocked to some degree. They want this thing sitting front and center like literally next to the TV or soundbar.

I cant see how its confusing at all. I get the argument that its a bad name, I don't agree but I get the argument.

It also is of great wonder to me that many people are thinking consumers will be confused. This thing will be $499 bare minimum, nobody is confused at that kind of coin. The messaging and marketing for Microsoft has been spot on for the last couple of years and I expect no difference moving forward.

Seems fine to me, it clearly is trying to leverage the "x" from their mid Gen refresh to maintain the most powerful mindset. The series bit is the most interesting as it indicates a series, as in something else is to come still. I'm thinking this signifies the end of generations and a move towards a much more PC style experience where the systems have presets in each game.

I'm putting mine next to the TV where the Switch docks currently are. Those are being moved to under the TV where the X currently sits, even though I could easily fit two Series X on top of each other under my TV, I want to stand this one vertical.

is the serie X a new gen console or just a continuation of the one X?

i have an issue with my switch and I put it behind my TV.
but where I can accept a little the issue on the switch because you want to be able to take it out for portable mode, it looks stupid for a home console that is supposed to stay under the TV.
And the day there is an official horizontal dock for the switch, I’m probably buying it.

You do realize it can be positioned horizontally right? It’s pretty compact so finding a spot for it should be fairly easy.

Oh please. As if the name Wii U didn't negatively impact the sales of that console even in the slightest.
WiiU literally made zero sense. Its just Xbox branding with Series(represents a line of Xbox versions) X after. Lockhart will prob Series S etc... No where near as bad as Xbox One. I remember when people complained about PS4 Pro. People will get used to the name. Could it have been better? Sure.

Call it the Shoe Box . It’s about the same size and proportions.
In all seriousness I really don’t care what the name it but personally don’t mind Xbox series X.........or you can just call it that Xbox SX.

Microosft never showed off anything to the public but the Xbox One. Ever.

There are literally mockup trailers for the "next xbox" all over Youtube published before the May conference, are you freaking serious?

Even this isn't showing anything to the public, it's a mock-up, just like how it was done for the Xbox One, they don't even show you the console, the console will be revealed either right before E3 like last time or at E3.
