Tetsuya Nomura Reveals New Details on Final Fantasy VII Remake (Vehicles, Dinner at Jessie's, climbing stairs, and more)

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Best part:

Tetsuya Nomura: “I know many are worried since the Remake project is in multiple games, and the first game only depicts Midgar. Don’t worry. It’s a highly dense game, and it doesn’t end after a few hours like the Midgar part in the original. There are many new events in the main story. Like a scene where you end up visiting Jessie’s parents, eating dinner. Each member of Avalanche is much more detailed compared to the original game, with new events to boot. By the time players leave Midgar, I’m sure they’ll be satisfied.”

Tetsuya Nomura: “We made the sidequest content to be as big as the main story. At the beginning, the development team readied even more content, but we wouldn’t have been able to do everything without cutting corners, so we prioritized quality. We wouldn’t have been able to finish the game otherwise. Despite that, the game is quite big, there are many places you can visit, and you can even move around using vehicles at some points.”

The remake is going all in on the Jessie character.

I smell a retcon....... Jessie doesn't die in Remake.
The game won't include Aerith's death, so they wanted to build up another character for this game and kill her off in a similar gut-wrenching fashion?

so I guess the first game will be several hours main story with lots of side quests filler then?
Game ends when you leave midgar?

EverydayBeast

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Final Fantasy is unfamiliar territory for me but I loved the demo, obviously the future of the franchise is beyond FF16, 17 etc.

I'm worried that it is multiple games because I don't want this remake to span 10+ entries... it wasn't a worry at first, but these interviews have been starting to make me feel uneasy.

Hopefully the side content is actually substantial though and not a bunch of boring fetch quests.

Tetsuya Nomura: “We heavily focused on the game’s atmosphere and immersion during battles. Maybe we overdid it when it comes to dialogue during battles (laughs). Recording everything was pretty difficult. At peak period we had up to 9 recording sessions a week, dividing them between two or three different studios. It might be the game with the most voiced lines I’ve worked on. Overall, in over 20 years of game development, Final Fantasy VII Remake was probably the most gruelling project I ever worked on (laughs)”

And the project ain't over yet. There's still story to be told. The FF7 storyline doesn't end with Midgar - everybody knows that.
So only God knows, how will Nomura and chums proceed from now on with episode 2.....

i don't get why they had to "expand" midgar and flesh out characters that are gonna die anyway never to be remembered or talked about later in the game instead of wasting time doing this they should've tried to finish as much as they could for part 1 at least up to aerith's death that would be around half the game done already. with only 1 more part to go.
now its midgar and the rest of the game will come out who knows when with who knows how many parts doesn't one person at square thinks about this beforehand they just make it up as they go?

It's called making an "impact". Fleshing out characters with more character development, means you will care more about them when they die, it evokes your emotional feelings. For the entitled lot of you, who think you know better writing than the creators, yet cannot even grasp the basic concepts such as these, shows the hypocrisy. What I don't understand, why wouldn't you want more content for this universe, are you not a fan?

Soooo looks like everybody was wrong about nomura screwing up FFVII Remake.

Fleshing out Jessie doesn't really make up for all the other shit they're pulling or not actually addressing. Hell, I don't even like FFVII to begin with and they still managed to make it less appealing than the original.

Because what you're asking for is probably far more than they could achieve for one game only, so they settled on expanding Midgar to avoid making a 5 hours long game. I'm pretty sure they thought about making the full game at one point, but that would have probably meant cutting so many things that the game would turn into something unrecognizable. Also yeah, SE has terrible management and is way too ambitious for their own good, but we're still getting the game AND it looks good, so I'm not complaining.

So you're not a fan, thank you for clearing up why I should not validate your opinion.

who cares about making an "impact" about expandable characters. these creators need to do a better job if they have decided to remake a game not have 10% of the game done after 5 years of development cycle . i love ff7 its the first ff i played im just so disappointed in the way this is turning out i want a full game not this ? parts one.

People care. Fans care. that's who. You're not the only person that played this game, thousands, no, million have. There are many Jessie fans out there! Also this is a full game, whether you like it or not is subjective, but it's explained time and time again why they went this route, and I fully support it. If you're too cheap to buy the complete saga, be like a nonfan and wait for a sale.

:messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:ask any fan they would not want expanded midgar for a whole game at the expense of the original game content. really jessie fans?. they went this route because they are slower than snails at development of any game and also more parts=more money. im not paying 60 for 10% of the original game and i dont think most people would hence why they dont have part 1 or midgar only on the boxart they know that will kill sales.

I talk to alot of fans, cosplayers, and youtubers and content creators, and yes they do agree with me on this.

then the "lot of you" can have fun paying premium prices for some % of game content :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I mean honestly if it means avoiding the pitfalls that came with FFXV, then by all means release it in smaller chunks. I would rather have them release it this way, instead of cutting corners (or in the case of FFXV, making as many compromises as possible and cutting many corners).

“The Remake will be releasing soon, but it’s not like it’s overwriting the original FFVII. The original game is the source of everything, and thanks to it, we were able to make a new, unique experience. Fans of the original game will have a different, new experience compared to when they played the original. And I hope those who discover everything with the Remake will enjoy it too. This is the first part of the Remake, but it’s still a full-fledged game, and you’ll be satisfied after playing it. Once you try out the game, you’ll definitely have a hard time putting it down. Please look forward to it.”

Nomura seems really confident ...cant wait to see how the game hold up

makesense..it kind of become trend already

If you don't have x die you can't toggle Lifestream on.
The game is basically a bunch of "side missions" (like stopping the weapons from wrecking the * out of humans) while x does politicking underground with the lifestream to convince it to save the Earth.

Besides, 80% of the drama and the game being as overrated revolves around x dying.
It's one of those things that just has to happen. It's like

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Kinda OT but did you guys know Motomu Toriyama is also one of the directors of FFVII Remake? :p

I'm fine with him as a co-director, as long as he only does the cutscene direction. Also I'm glad he's not writing the story for this one.

Vehicles eh? I doubt they are drivable. Probably just fast travel. I wonder what sidequests there will be and how many. And I'm hoping for a new game plus.

Toriyama's great when on a leash. What he did for X and the original VII was some good stuff, seems like he has similar basic input.

Aaah this just builds my hype. I enjoyed the demo and I can't wait to see how the game expands past that point.

I remember a decade ago, fans were begging for this. Like, just a remake with better polys and some of the chopped story bits thrown back in. Maybe a few more dungeons and superbosses. This is another different level of remake. Here we are , a month away. Even if it doesn't present a pitch-perfect remake that the vocal minority truly want, I think it's been a brave thing for SE to tackle knowing full well the criticism they'd be getting. They're fully aware what a monster project this is. For some people this'll be their first foray into this amazing game. I've actually reconnected with some old friends that used to play FFVII with me back in the day, and this game is what did it.

I'm hyped, and in a healthy way. I don't have any false expectations here.
