I mean yeah that's what I'm expecting; nothing for launch, but obviously they could do a tease or a trailer.

Really I just want to see more actual gameplay from the first year games. That conference was neat, but it was mostly cinematic trailers, real time in-engine or not, just not what excites me.

Sony showed a lot of trailers and basically no gameplay other than Ratchet & Clank...

So they still have gameplay to show from all the games they announced...

GT, Horizon, Spider-Man, Destruction All Star, Demon Souls, All of those games can have 3 minutes trailer with gameplay reveal and can give Sony a great push before console pre-orders starts.

I hope that isn't everything Sony has in the bag, but I don't know of any studios from Sony that can have something ready for launch that hasn't been announced yet.

So Paul from RedGamingTech says he's reached out to a few sources and has heard that Sony are planning an event in August in which they'll reveal the full launch line up including the price of the console. Also that there will be another event sometime late in August in which Sony will do a console teardown revealing the cooling system and the APU. Take it with a grain of salt of course.

A blowout for a console launch happens only every 6-7 years so the hype is slowly building for tomorrows' showcase. Much of the stuff rumoured so far sounds good but I hope they deliver a curve ball/out of the left-field megaton for tomorrow. A game showcase which leaves us gasping for more would be perfect. Think something like WatchDogs back at E3 2013.

I really really want MS to blow me away tomorrow. And not just because they are due or because Sony underwhelmed with a focus on trailers. I really hope to see whats possible next gen. I want to see photorealism sure, but I also want to see interactivity we havent seen before. I want to see Far Cry 2 fire physics x100. I want to see fully living breathing cities like cyberpunk but on steroids. I want truly emergent gameplay where a small skirmish could take you from one end of the map to the other like GTA3 did back on PS2. Only on a larger scale.

Above all, I want to see what I dont expect to see. Destruction, massive NPC counts, photorealistic graphics like hellblade 2 are all good, but my imagination simply cant match the imagination of talented artists and directors who have been doing this their entire lives. I hope this new piece of tech allows them to push boundries and blow minds like they could never do before.

I'm guessing MS learned from the last showing and wants to clearify. So we should expect more platform games (as in Xbox) than Series X games.
Looks like they have some gems to show as well tho'
But really, this is to be expected since MS are heavily into "platform" rather than "generations".

They also confirmed games being shown in the pre show. Hopefully Grounded and stuff like that will be in the preshow. Having said that, i only ever expected Halo, 3 or 4 other bigger games, then 4 or 5 trailers in this show anyway. It was never going to be 27 games like at Sony's. Stuff will be kept for future shows.

I'm sorry but you just set yourself up for disappointment. Those games (really next-gen) aren't due for at least 2-3 years from now anyways.
Edit: I'm not saying you won't be happy with the interim, but the true next-gen games that really takes advantage of everything the new consoles bring to the table won't show up for 2-3 years. (applicable for both consoles obviously)

My guess.

After what happened with that 3rd party event they are just tempering people's expectations.

But remember this, Microsoft has a different stance on cross gen games than Sony has. What this probably means is that while some of those games will be current gen, they will be running on the Series X so they should look better than the current gen version.
