How was the gameplay? Never played it, but since this is going to be a new big first party game it might makes sense to play it beforehand to understand the story properly
Like 80% story and unskippable cutscenes. If you watch preview videos and see tons of footage of fights against raggy vulturemen thinking it's a hack and slash DMC, the game is NOT like that.

Do you have Gamepass? If so, all the better to test it out. That's how I played it.

If I paid even $20 buying it, I'd feel pissed.

Not my type of game.

See? I disagree. I saw and played it as a character action game. There is a TON of combat, 200-300% more than I expected. The later portions are indistinguishable from a God of War 2018 thing.

Edit: It's exactly a Heavenly Sword thing. From the same studio, no less.

I have gamepass, so I'll give it a try. Thanks for the reply

The gameplay was generally fine but could have done with less puzzles and more enemy interactions for my liking. The combat was very stylish and looked damn good once you learn the mechanics. Definitely something I'm excited to see ninja expand on.

But ye, the storytelling is exceptional. Some of the best I've seen in any game/genre. If you're into story focused games this is a must-play!

This is the true walking simulator, there were a few fights but nothing memorable, I enjoyed the game nonetheless, it is not spectacular nor visually impressive as Heavenly Sword was, it never reaches HS nor God of War levels of quality, but it is filled with emotion, I believe that is what Tameem Antoniades always conveys in his games. And that is precisely why I play NT games. I will find some time to replay this before the sequel arrives.

Played the first for the first time recently. I'm hoping the sequel has a lot more enemy interaction and actual combat system other than mashing a button and dodging to get a slow down. The puzzles and world were good though , but I dont understand the level of hype this is getting.

I think it will. I would bet the sequel has a fleshed out combat system/ability trees. Im not saying full on ARPG style but I would bet there’s more substance there overall

I'd hope so , the original was a cut price game right? I remember Ninja Theory using "AA development" as the reasoning so if Microsoft back it as a full release would expect that kind of treatment.

I have 0 hype for this game.
Got to play the Hellblade last month and I loved the setting and art style, but everything else turned me away
and I dropped it after about an hour. It's a very mediocre game with pretty graphics in my book.

I still need to play the first one (i have it on gog).
I still don't believe it will look like that (generations of launch trailer have made me skeptic)
speaking of it can we hope the 2 will come to gog ?

No, very unlikely. MS has said they have no intentions of releasing any more first party content on rival consoles. Ori and Cuphead were the last hurrah and Outer Worlds was tied to a contractual obligation before Obsidian's acquisition. So unless Nintendo or Sony support Game Pass, you probably won't see it.

It'll look good just like part one does. Once you play you'll know why. Very restrictive world, invisible boundaries everywhere and very repetitive gameplay loop and boss fights.

First game is ok to good but the restrictive world shows. Here's hoping part 2 is more fleshed out and free.

This is how I feel. Hellblade was one hell of a ride I was definitely NOT ready for but quite glad I took the trip. The game was really good at setting the mood basically demanding you to care about every move you make, every attack you throw at enemies. Hellblade is arguably the best game I played this gen and will forever cherish my time with it.

The storytelling was the best I've seen this gen too. Especially the use of sound. Playing with headphones and hearing senuas voices in her head, really elevates the game

Game works well with headphones and after smoking a blunt. The puzzles get messy but it was the best game NT has made thus far, high hopes for the next one.

Have you found enemies yet? I'm about 1 hour in and I have not had any encounters yet, I hiked across a forest, a beach... then I climbed some rock formation.... had some hallucination of a guy, opened a door and stopped playing.

I'll go back later because this game is like the opposite of Journey, it's similar in the sense that it makes you walk, but it's definitely not relaxing, all those voices scare me (I play with earphones)... The ambiance is great.

I suspect the next one will have a much bigger budget and that it will be more akin to God of War than this game.

That the point, it’s meant to screw with your head.

There are enemies but they aren’t what you expect. (You fight)

But yeah, the game is basically a, am going to screw with your head kind a game. (I think she’s mentally disturbed and you’re living it with her, so you hear what she hears and see what she sees all that mad stuff)

Maybe I understood it wrong, but I don't want another God of War clone.

I see.
God of War 2018 isn't perfect, even if I'm enjoying it.

But when I finished Hellblade I see that creating a saga starting starting with this and made it with these elements can be much more than a simple action adventure game.

"another god of war clone"
such as?

also God of War 4 itself literally just copied multiple elements from other games with only very little to no original ideas.
the fighting system is as basic as it gets, the RPG mechanics pretty much tacked on nonsense and the overall structure of the game isn't anything special either.

so I'm not sure what "Another God of War clone" is supposed to mean?
another game that has a very basic fighting system from an over the shoulder perspective? if so, there are not that many even out there that I'm aware of outside of Hellblade and God of War... and Hellblade was there first.

Oh I'm not against it, I love that portion (messing with my head), and I suspect that havingtoo much combat would break the mood... but I'm a chicken I guess, I won't play it more than a couple of minutes at a time, like any good horror game... I don't have the nerve!

Anyway, I suspect that this game is an introduction and the next one will be more of an action game.

It will be much more than just that.
Probably

Thats like calling every game with a gun, a Halo clone.

I see.

Something that is a mishmash of something else will do as an answer to your question.

But when I finished Hellblade I see that creating a saga starting starting with this and made it with these elements can be much more than a simple action adventure game.

Yeah, they could perfect what they did while also adding new ideias that complements to what came before. That would be pretty good.

I gave up on it approximately 30 minutes after encountering first enemies, the combat felt dull, boring and not fun at all.

It's worth noting that while the trailer was running in realtime, it was also rendering in cinematic 4k (3840x1608) at 24fps and we have no idea what hardware was actually rendering it in that real time. Of course, it was also very presumably running on UE 4.25 (or whatever the revision was) without many of the new rendering technologies provided in UE5 that would allow the no-LOD and everything else to be done with better performance.

I have absolutely no doubts though that the game will look around as good as that trailer when it is released.

I also hope for gameplay on the 23rd, but seeing as how it will be built with an engine not yet available, I would not be surprised to see if any graphical polishes to the gameplay are still very limited and not at all close to what was seen in the trailer (and thus not worth showing off unless they want hell on social media) but I am absolutely hoping to be wrong
