Lol I learn something new everyday on the GAF.Yes, this is true, but people on NeoGAF have been saying DF will die any day now ever since the Xbox One X came out.
Totally out of context paraphrasing here. He compared the Ray tracing performance specifically to settings he has seen in the pc space when using a 2060 super. That's actually super impressive for a GPU the size if the one found in a PS5.DF can’t work with that video because they don’t have the hardware. But they can suggest PS5 being a 2060 super, from Spider-Man footage.
No... you don't understand... Digital Foundry OWES Playstation fans videos covering the PS5. For every one that they make for Xbox.. they MUST make one for Playstation.. otherwise they are biased shills.

Go back and look at their gaming videos comparing Xbox One and PS4 games to make yourself feel better then. Or start with their video on the state of the Xbox one S where Alex tells you that performance of the console overtime has been degrading.
Nah. That's reserved for Nintendo fansSince a video like this takes a week, you're gonna have to wait a bit. So funny how obsessed sony fans are with this corporation and their console. I will forever not be able to understand how and why people get so tribal, primitive, religious and fanatical about sony. They stand out from pretty much any aspect of fandom from everywhere.
Worshiping sony and its console is like someone worshiping a video card brand blindly instead of buying whatever is best at that given point in time.
Actually I can agree on that. Does seem a poor choice of words by him. I won’t fault DF for not making a video about it faster though. Why would this makes me feel better?
It's just weird that someone whos so interested in console hardware would call seeing the new tech uninteresting.
It's like if a Zelda fan called seeing the first gameplay of BoTW2 uninteresting.
I'd say the same thing if they called an Xbox teardown uninteresting.
From a technical standpoint how do you expect DF to teardown (with the same attention to detail that they offered the XSX) the PS5 without a physical SKU? MS got thier consoles out to DF half a yr ago. They gave youtube stars I've never heard of Series consoles for impressions. It's not hard to see why tech experts would prioritize thier research, working with what they have.Translation: “Sony didn’t give us early access to the PS5, so we won’t go the extra mile to cover PS5 news”. Sounds pretty shilly to me, we get it Alex you worship the ground Spencer walks on.
DF is the Zune of tech channels/blog old and outdated like their opinionsPS5 teardown happened for some days already and DF did nothing to cover the Sony event.
While they keep doing videos about old games nobody cares.
When asked why the reply:
They could never do a teardown of the PS5 for all I care.Dear Digital Foundry,
Not that we care, because you're shills for PC and Xbox, but we think you should cover the PS5 teardown. Yes, we need you to ignore the actual hardware that you have, stop any work on original content, and give us your second-hand report on a video of the tear down. No, the 5,000 other YouTube impressions aren't enough. We need DF to do another one.
P.S. If you give Sony anything less than a verbal blowjob, we'll accuse you of being biased MS shills like we already do.
Sincerely yours,
Sony GAF
Care to give actual quotes of this?2 weeks ago: Demon Souls teardown is gospel! DF confirmed the rez and frame progression! RT lives, thank you DF!
Again, I’ve stated this many times, they didn’t have to say anything. But the uninteresting comment is a head scratcher. It has 7m views.
Sounds like more of a conspiracy theory than an assumption. I'm not trying to down you by saying that as it's easy to listen to YouTubers and be lead down that path, but think of how many assumptions one has to make to get to that conclusion.I don’t see that as paraphrasing. It’s an example of a time when they had experience with a pc product and how it may compare to a console gpu and they relayed that experience to readers to help them understand what that could mean for the PS5 GPU..Based on that, wouldn’t it stand to reason that they could have discussed liquid metal in their experience with pc and how it may benefit or not benefit the PS5 using it? Or the heat sink and it’s size?
Again, I’ve stated this many times, they didn’t have to say anything. But the uninteresting comment is a head scratcher. It has 7m views. There’s a ton of posts claiming that Sonyfans Believe that df is biased or even posts saying Sony is hiding something by not sending them a system. The flip side is, we now know that Sony spent more on their SSD than was already obvious by including dram on their drive and Microsoft did not. Maybe Msoft didn’t want anyone to know that and df didn’t want to say that so that’s why they didn’t comment on the PS5 teardown? Can I make that assumption?
There is no real analysis happening with XSeX or XSeS at DF. There probably is a deal which dictates what theyare allowed to show and when.
It also seems that they are not allowed to compare XSeX or XSeS to PS5 or PC GPUs while they are in this deal with MSFT.
Of course they are gonna do a video about it. Thats not really the point of this thread. Why would they do a video teardown of a video teardown? Seems like it makes sense that they would wait until they have the console in hand instead of trying to speculating off of a video. Complaint seems is just whining.
Cause he is consistent.Lmao nothing about that surprises me
You don’t need to. They do. Because it’s the teardown of the successor of the second highest selling console of all time. You’re a guy on a message board. They’re there to find these things interesting. Saying it’s not is ridiculous. There’s a difference between there being interest in a video, and the content itself being interesting.
Which I really don’t think it was. Despite the usual fanboy hyperbole there was nothing innovative or interesting in the design, and therefore I would concur that the video itself is actually ‘uninteresting’ in terms of further discussion. To quote Trump, it very much is what it is...
Big fan, big heat sink, big whoop. Slightly different thermal paste solution - be still my beating heart. The sides come off! Again, hardly DF fare. Don’t even try and get me excited about the fucking stand.
I have this thing on order and am looking forward to it, but the most interesting thing for me are actually big negatives - the size of the fucking thing, and the inelegant storage expansion solution.
Sounds like more of a conspiracy theory than an assumption. I'm not trying to down you by saying that as it's easy to listen to YouTubers and be lead down that path, but think of how many assumptions one has to make to get to that conclusion.
1. DF are secretly making sponsored content without disclosing which is illegal and against YouTube ToS.
2.MS and DF would have to make the terrible assumption that if DF doesn't point something negative out, no one else would.
3.That DF isn't going to make a PS5 breakdown video when they finally get to touch one. That's what your first paragraph implies. Is it not more likely as well that they are saving their opinions for when they actually are allowed to have a PS5 and they create their own video, which they will make money off of.
Also, DF hasn't made an official statement on the video as you stated. An employee on his free time answered a question that someone asked. He added his personal take on the "showmanship" and info provided that wasn't known previously in regards to Sony's video.
Threads not locked my guy, peruse at your earliest convenience chief. Also nowhere in my OP did I quote any one user, because the statement implies the sentiment found on GAF any time DF gives Sony some shine. Not thier fault they didn't have a console to physically tear down themselves. Hell, I wouldn't give a second hand analysis eitherCause he is consistent.
So? Where are the quotes of the people calling them shills today and larping up to them 2 weeks ago?
well, someone pointed out the DRAM in the PS5s SSD which improves I/O performance even further. Also, an added expense over DRAM-less drives. Then, after comparing, it turns out series x SSD doesn’t have it. Just an example of how it is news that is relevant to the industry all came from the images from the video.
You don’t need to. They do.
Why does this thread exist, let alone have 10 pages?
I don't get what there is to talk about, let alone debate
Didn't think this was news either. Must have be recent highlightingDidn't Sony talk about the SSD having DRAM when they did their deep dive?
You were just very specific so I thought you could actually provide some examples. If you had I would have made fun of them with you.Threads not locked my guy, peruse at your earliest convenience chief. No we're in my OP did I quote anyone person because the statement implies the sentiment found on GAF any time DF gives Sony some shine. They don’t have or need to do anything. Manufacturing interest in something is wasting everyone’s time - if there is nothing interesting to say, say nothing.
There’s nothing wrong with the PS5 per se, there’s just nothing interesting to analyse or say about that video. Like I said, it is what it is...
Didn't Sony talk about the SSD having DRAM when they did their deep dive?
youre not comprehending. I didn’t say they need to make a video. I said the opposite. But they do need to find that teardown interesting. Saying it’s not interesting is the part that is odd for a site like theirs.
Don't crawfish, your point was also that DF and MS conspiried to hide something (you dedicated a paragraph to it). Also, It was a big yawn man. It's not a slight against Sony, they just missed an opportunity for the first glimpse into the guts of a PS5 to be exciting. You don’t need to. They do. Because it’s the teardown of the successor of the second highest selling console of all time. You’re a guy on a message board. They’re there to find these things interesting. that was my point. The main topic was thatit shouldn’t be referred to as uninteresting when it very clearly is. Yet many people took exception to that part being called out and began questioning if it was more than that with their own ridiculous conspiracy theories.
You’re right, I didn’t get that was what you are saying... Still disagree though - and I’m not at all surprised they didn’t find anything of interest in it. I’m sure when they get a PS5 themselves they’ll be massively interested, but watching someone else take that apart? There’s not really anything surprising enough to talk about, or for them to add of substance...
It was the LAST sentence of that paragraph. The rest was what was being said here for 10 pages. Maybe read it again. I don't think I'm alone in the fact that I scrubbed though most of the presentation to get to the meat of the video. Once there, the only new info I got was the memory chip split and they are using a more expensive "thermal paste" solution. These topics will be covered in a DF video once they can do their own teardown. I bet it will be a lot more "interesting" as well.
Again, that’s for you. They should find a lot of what was revealed to be interesting though. The dram speculation and liquid metal alone.
This right here. I think Sony’s success has gotten to their heads where they think that just because they were in the lead of this generation they feel like they don’t need to make much effort in anything as much because people regardless will still buy the PS5. I mean yeah that’s correct because obviously I’m getting the PS5 but that doesn’t mean I won’t be critical over their flaws.
Again, that’s for you. They should find a lot of what was revealed to be interesting though. The dram speculation and liquid metal alone.

edit:
it was a big yawn and yet you took the time to comment on it for free. They had the PS5 teardown to comment on and they didn’t and called it uninteresting and that’s what they’re paid to do! Hahahaha
Now Microsoft pays df to call Sony's teardown uninteresting? Lol you guys need to go play a game or something. Those tinfoil hats are a bit too tight.
So because Sony isn’t offering DF any freebies they shouldn’t bother covering PS5 content? Sounds like you encourage shill behavior.
I cannot help that they hurt your feelings.Again, that’s for you. They should find a lot of what was revealed to be interesting though. The dram speculation and liquid metal alone.

..... I think @dark10x is the only unbiased one out the lot, .......
(Timestamped) Someone donates and asks if texture popin will improve on Series X and of course Alex immediately shoots it down.
Even though this video by Rich (timestamped) literally proves that an SSD has an effect on textures.
