UbiSoft will remove "ableist text" from Assassin's Creed because a dude complained about it.

Fiction is going to be amazing in 10 years when you can't write anything that could make anyone feel bad or uncomfortable:

"I'm writing a murder mystery but there's no murder because it might make people related to murder victims feel bad, there's also no murderer or any villains really because no matter how I describe them someone might feel identified with some of their qualities and feel bad. So it's actually about a virus from space (as making it come from a specific country could be offensive) but it has 0% lethality and causes literally no symptoms because otherwise I could offend someone who suffered during the corona crisis. The story follows a gender neutral main character I only refer to as "they", they has no strong opinions about any subject and doesn't get any insight into the investigation as they are neither part of law enforcement nor working together with them as showing law enforcement in any positive way could be highly problematic and insensitive".

Via my Finnish friend:

Maybe I should complain about the cloudberries that grow in large bushes in the game, when in reality it's a tiny plant in bogs and swamps. I have no idea how, but I'm sure it will deeply insult the Sami people living up north, as the berry is generally associated with the north and is important for the cuisine. I can only imagine their anguish when they see it in the game, so misrepresented.

Oh no, one random person in the world was upset at lines of text in vidya game!
Quick multimillion-dollar developer, fix this ASAP or you get Twitter mob outrage, you understand?

And these people talk about privilege.

The funny thing is, this tweeter failure probably hoped they wouldn't do it so he could give his life purpose by bitching about that for a few weeks. Now that Ubi listened to him he will be like 'oh... HEY SONY IN UR GAME THERE IS AN OFFENSIVE LINE ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE MEEEEEEEEEE'.

They can just modify the wording. The user who reported it referred to his gf as a "burn victim". So they can just reword the description accordingly. It's a nice gesture. I doubt they knew that the wording would be offensive when they made the game, so simple change of text should fix it.

Those saying it's spineless, how would you feel if you suffered a disfigurement, and spent your life embarrassed and insecure, only to find that a game you want to play reminds you of those same feelings? Dude's gf probably has more courage than any of the keyboard gangsters complaining in this thread.

Ubisoft isn't guilty of being negligent. They didn't know, and now they know better. I personally never knew this stuff was an issue, but now I've learned as well. It's all part of the growing process. Hating a company for acknowledging a request, and helping their community is lame. Hate them if they ignored the request or dared to insult the user. This is a nice gesture.

So having a character that feels ashamed & angry because of some disfigurement is wrong, but it appears to be OK to express that anger with violence.

What message are we giving our kids? 😂

Ubisoft could (and should) have just ignored this person, but they chose to change it... what the fuck. It's so obvious this person just want to make a scene and get some attention!

What’s wrong with characters having tragic back stories? This can’t be real. Can we PLEASE figure out how to get rid of Twitter, please just turn it into a news site or something.

Excuse me, you calling me a gangster offends me. Would you modify your wording to accommodate my complaint?

Art dictated by the consumer

To be fair, in the history of mankind it basically never was any different. Art is just a good in the end. So a classic "Don´t like it, don´t buy it" approach might be for the best. In the history of the franchise it forced ubisoft to rethink some aspects of it once already.

I wonder who will be the first developer to really push hard against this kind of demand for pandering. It has to happen, sooner or later.
Well ID did the whole SJW piss taking with Doom Eternal. I was hoping ti was the start of people finally getting tired of snowflakes, it hasnt really hppened so far though.

So GF has burned face and lived with the shame for years before her acceptance... (but her reaction to the game says otherwise).

And game character has burned face who is ashamed and deals with it thru violence... It sounds like the game character is just a bit further back in the acceptance cycle.

I thought people were demanding #representation in games? No?

I haven't played the Assassin Creed games, but how well do the NPCs or dialogue reflect the attitudes and morals of the time?
It would be strange for a historical game to be very cognizant of whatever category equality that we practice today.
Is there more blatant sexism/racism which I would expect in the past? Or do they dodge the topic?

Someone post the pottery art from Odyssey...

All the in game NPCs talk like a Twitter thread about Beyoncé, the games are embarrassments at this point

All these narcissistic snowflakes who think they are the centre of the universe, and everything should cater to them.
This world is beyond fucked.

I will probably pick this game up when it hits the deep discount or bargain bin. Hopefully by then all the SJW/Woke edits to the game will have run its course. I suspect by then I will be able to play a nice broken historical walking simulator as the rest of the game will have been neutered due to people taking offense to violence, murder, unpleasant backstories or not enough exposed male genitals.

To be fair, most comments on twitter are ripping him apart for that bullshit.

Censoring creative freedom like that is bullshit.
What’s next? People from Middle east complaining that you shoot Terrorists in CoD so they remove them?
But Ubisoft still decided to allow it. It might actually have been offensive to the writer to have it deleted for such a stupid comment on internet. If Ubisoft really intends to please all crazy for attention and sensitive people from Twitter, they should stop working with art altogether.

On another chapter of "videogames serious bussines".
Sounds more like a new episode of "Please, shield us from reality".

And in current year identity politics it's not just that people feel legitimate to act as whiny bitches or delusional idiots.
You are also mandate to compliment them for it.
