Why The Xbox Series X Is 2020’s Biggest Gaming Disappointment

Yeah but only 1 or 2 and the other games are cross gen, yes the controller is nice but the controller needed a revamp. The haptics are very cool i will agree there. Until we get a year into the new consoles both are just upgrade of the pro/X at the moment

I argued and still believe this gen will be the smallest leap yet. Mainly due to PS4 Pro / X1X. We had what normally would have been a revamp where the console is made smaller / cooler, but they went beyond that and released way more powerful versions.

This gen will likely not see anything huge in a jump unless they do a PS5 Pro or something.

I am quite ok with the SX. I have been playing a lot of games with decent enough performing and graphics basically for free with Game Pass. This last sale was also quite good and I picked some additional games. We can’t also forget that the 360 BC is awesome. Still a lot to play from that era with auto HDR enabled.

First wave are not looking good for Series X

Getting stomped by PS5

Even still lost to Nintendo Switch

The hype for Xbox X isnt big enough ( not generating enough hype)

Don't forget that this the second week numbers for the 2 consoles in USA, but the first week for the PS5 and seconde week for the series in EU. If we take the total from the same source, that's finally not so bad results for the series (1.6M vs 2.5), and the 2 consoles are sold out :

Sales charts do my talking for me. Xbox is a disappointment and everybody knows it. World's most powerful console yet can't outperform a PS5. No games except back compat shit you've had for years. Time to eat some crow Riky. PS5 is trending everyday and the most desired consumer electronics product on Earth. The only people I see talk about xbox are butthurt fanboys like yourself.

They couldn't even manage to launch it with a next gen title. Not even 1, or even half of 1 like Spidy MM. That's a disappointment no matter how you spin it.

Yea that's pretty awful. This + the tools shenanigans and devkits not arriving till late really makes me feel like they rushed XSeX to market to compete with PS5.

Glad to see Xbox is doing well enough to float; competition is necessary.

I wish we could see these numbers in a world where there was no supply chain issues and anyone that wanted it Day 1 could get it.

It's up from preorder on MS store right now
Had it in my cart but couldn't pull the trigger

Too big
Too ugly
Too much

Now the Series S? I'd jump at the opportunity

It's just a Gamepass machine to me and $300 is the right price

My fave PS4 game this gen was Spider-Man , when they announced Spider-Man MM i was hyped and spoke a fair bit about it on here. It started out as a ps4 game and got upgraded to ps5. People were laughing when i brought that up and said no way could it run on ps4 and it had huge upgrades that weren’t possible on ps4.

Well it was a cross gen game and all the game even Demon Souls on ps5 are capable on last gen machines, abet with a little downgrade.

its gonna be a while till we see the full power of the machines.

most of them cross platform launch games are bugged on both consoles so far, frame rate drops and res drops. Ubisoft are known for having huge bugs in games and people are using them as a tell of power between machines. To early and do not use Ubisoft as a benchmark

Rachet and Clank does look awesome btw

I feel like when the supposed games come out, it will too late. Xbox is handled by very incompetent people.

I don't think it really would have mattered. We've really only seen major shifts in market share when either the prior gen market leader screwed up somehow and/or someone catches lightning in a bottle.

i.e.:

Nintendo lost their dominance when the partnership with Sony fell through and the stuck with carts for N64 and alienated third parties with high licensing fees.

Sony lost some of their dominance with the $500-600 PS3 (really the latter as the non-bc sku was hard to find) to win the HD movie disc war, compounded with terrible PR saying people would work a second job to afford it. Nintendo capitilzed on that and catching lighting in a bottle with the Wii (and DS) and sold a crap ton of units and won the sales race. MS capitalized on that and dominated in North America, the UK and a few other places--though still finished neck and neck with the PS3 in consoles sold by the time the generation was done.

MS lost the goodwill and market share they had with the 360 with the terrible Xbox One reveal and then still launching with Kinect forced in causing them to be $100 more than PS4 for a less powerful machine.

None of that kind of stuff happened this time around. Sony and MS played it safe and stuck with what worked last gen and launched two very similar consoles that will run games similarly enough that most people won't care about any differences. No reason to expect market share to shift as it's only shifted historically when someone screws up or someone does something new that catches on like the Wii. MS is aware of this given their focus on services, Spencer saying consoles sold aren't the main metric etc. Unless Sony screws up they're never going to come close to them in sales again. Too much of the world just doesn't care about the Xbox brand. And that's fine, they can be very profitable with their services and I love them (and Nintendo) as a complementary platform to my Playstations that have more of the types of games I love (cinematic, narrative-drive single player games).

I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but I must say it again...... They released next gen too early. Neither the hardware or software were ready.

The thing that blows my mind is they had so many years to prepare for the launch of this generation and couldn't produce anything of note for launch or the launch window. The fact that they know the Xbox has no games thing is common knowledge within gaming forums makes it even more mind boggling to be this unprepared.

I ebayed mine...and made 400, I didn't have any intention to, but the dust was already settling and I needed a new grfx card.

I'll be back in 2022 I reckon.

PS5 is the ugliest console maybe ever. Its massive and its design is all over the place.

Maybe it works good for cooling.

I mean it makes the PS3 Foreman Grill look like a work of art.

PS4 design was good, should of kept something along those lines.

But it is true xbox series x doesnt have any first party launch game

PS5 : Astro + Demon Souls + Sackboy

Xbox X : Nothing

This is fact and not made up story

Compare X with One launch game : Ryse Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct

That is a huge letdown
No consoles out there to buy but many exclusives at launch... 👍

That's a bold, and frankly ignorant, claim for him to make. If they manage to get God of War 2 out next year I'll eat my fucking hat. Late spring 2022 at a minimum is more realistic. No idea why he wouldn't use Ratchet & Clank instead when that's practically a 2021 guarantee.

He also neglected to mention the fact that you can happily play Horizon 2 on PS4. Might change, almost definitely won't.

As someone who loves his PS5, this article is kinda bullshitty considering the best "new experiences" on PS5 right now are a 4 hour platformer and a PS3 remake.
Yeah i really dont get how anyone thinks god of war is next year, they saw a title screen and started claiming next year

Launch titles aren't usually the greatest... Last Gens big tittles was

XB1- Ryse (Good game Underrated)
Dead Rising 3
Forza 5
Killer Instinct

PS4- KillZone: Shadow fall
Knack
Rosogun
Flower

Most of the rest that launched were Third party games or games that didn't create much hype. As a series x owner I love my new console and can't wait for more games to come (exclusive or Third party). I never set overly high expectations for launch titles because launch titles are rarely ground breaking.

It’s just an opinion piece. Meaning no real work went into their thinking.

I like Dead Rising 3, KI and Killzone Shadow Fall more than anything on PS5 and XSX right now.

To be fair, that was 700K PS5 in Europe in it's first 48 hours of European Launch. That why PS5 literally eat everything 48 hours after European Launch.

XS launch worldwide the 11 November.

The stocks are almost all sold (the SX)

It does say 2021 in the actual teaser, but there's no way in hell they make that window. I'd be stunned. They don't even need to with the other games coming next year.

The only way I could see it making it, is if they just re skin it like spiderman...but they are still hiring writers so I cant imagine they are very far

Also what about being able to run retroarch on the console, another plus. Can play generations of games on one console

Oh boy this thread is 👎.
We are in 2 months in a new Gen and we must talk about that. Sry but Sony will not release GOW in 2021 trust me.
And what do you think about Xbox in the Future. No games from 23 Studios🤦‍♂️. Sry it's Fanboy thread not more.
Try and carefully read the title of the thread.
Then slowly read it again.

Why the Xbox hate ?

The Xbox SX is an amazing machine.

I totally love it and i have absolutely 0 regret.

I really like my SX. Too.

Yes DualSense on Astrobot feel new and next gen but after that, it's like SX experiences, with better load times, framerate etc...

I really don't like the PS5 UI. I don't think U.I is an argument.

People are just thirsty of Next gen graphics. That what SX lack.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Honestly, the Series S might be the biggest disappointment.

Too much PR that isnt showing up in the results, for either Series console.

Definitely. I do think PS5 has one of the better launch line-ups in memory though. Demon's Souls and Astrobot as true exclusives, good cross gen games like Miles Morales and Sackboy as PS exclusives, good cross gen third party games like AC: Valhalla, Cyberpunk soon etc. PS4 was pretty barren the first 18 months or so really. I got mine in spring around Infamous Second Son and mostly regretted it. It wasn't until around when Bloodborne hit that it really started getting enough games to be worth it.

I don't know, Sony has the game studios, but their consoles always feel a step behind in noise, controller, UI, features and online structure. I can never see myself using it as my third party machine after trying to with the Ps4. PC+Series X for multiplats, Sony for exclusives.

I love when people speak for me.

Series X is pretty awesome. Some dickhead game journo doesn't speak for me.
If it was a game journalist, but it's not. It's a Forbes contributor which is basically someone who paid Forbes to publish their blog.

Fanboy article that fails to mention those Ps5 games are coming to Ps4 lol. Not surprising considering op post history.

I agree the xbox is a disappointment tho. No big exclusives to show off the system's power and gdk bugs on some games are a big letdown.

Im still just waiting for a valid reason to upgrade my consoles.

I think he did and then read that one of the major appeals of ps5 is games in 2021 so he went with that on xbox to
OP is quite clearly talking about the Xbox Series X launch and in that sense many can agree it is a big disappointment.
The launch is essentially hanging on GamePass.

Pretty much just an observation about the state of the launch for both companies. Neither have a killer next gen experience ready at launch. Sony's upgraded games from last gen are a better showcase than what MS has. Once both start to get games fully developed to take advantage of their power this dumbass stuff can stop.

I agree. I've always felt that launch titles are, for the most part, last-gen games that have a few bells and whistles on top. We're going to have to wait two to three years to start seeing games that really take full advantage of either consoles specs.

I do remember being wowed by the amount of zombies on the screen at the same time on dead rising. Was a huge jump from 360 days but graphics weren’t huge upgrade.

PGR was a big upgrade though

Seems to me its exactly what you can expect from Xbox. 3rd party games running worse (smaller gap than xbone / ps4 at least) and no first party games.
