Did CDPR just...massively tank PC performance because of one wrong config file?

Maybe it works better for slower gpu then?
Anyone tried change nvidia settings separate maybe?
Better res scaling option like this mod should help weaker specs maybe more, anyone tried this maybe?

I hope that cd project is gonna fix this in the next patch because i'm not gonna touch system files with the risk of making even more damage by myself.

Loading times definitely improved. Can't say for the rest. Playing the game as I'm writing this down. Will edit later once I have checked some more crowded and demanding areas.

GPU: GTX 1080 Ti
RAM: 16GB
CPU: i7-7820X

Edit: Didn't notice too much difference, apart from the earlier mentioned loading times. Been driving around in the crowded parts of the city for quite some time now. It might be there, but I just don't see it all too well. Still suffering from screen tearing, which makes it hard to see. GoG or the game don't have an in-game FPS counter, unless I'm too blind and can't find it.

No improvement. Loading was already like 2 seconds on my M2 drive. FPS same as before.

But I'm happy with current perf. RTX with optimised settings is getting me a pretty stable 60-80fps @ 1440p.

I hope that cd project is gonna fix this in the next patch because i'm not gonna touch system files with the risk of making even more damage by myself.

Dude it's a config file - you can always just repair to get it back to default. Just imagine it like changing a setting in the ingame settings - it's not like your coding here.

Yes, but how is that the fault of PC gaming? I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you here, we just think your resolve is strange.
Where I said it is a fault?

I said deal with config files or even GUI settings to best test optional performance is one of the reasons I don't play on PC... it is on opinion.... and that is related to all games on PC not just Cyberpunk.

Said that have to change the amount of RAM on config files is amateur and makes no sense from Cyberpunk's devs... if the "news" is true at all because seems like it is not right because it makes no sense.

I updated the GPU pool and set the pool flex to 0. I booted the game up in admin mode and it looks to me that the frame rate is much more stable. I only played for 5 mins or so and did not have the frame counter on so my feedback is only based on visual fidelity.

Good news, as I had all settings at min @1080p. I'll mess around with the settings further to see what I can get.

You were arguing so passionately in the Nvidia thread. I assumed you were a PC gamer. Jesus Christ.
What is right is right.
My last owned nVidia product was a Riva TNT 2.
After CPUs with integrated GPU become a thing I never needed to buy a GPU anymore... to be fair excluding the MacBook Pro (AMD GPU) and working notebooks (integrated GPUs) I had only 3 PCS (the first two with integrated motheboard GPUs and the last one on CPU itself): Pentium 3, Athlon 64 X2 and Core i3 (that last one is pretty new yet it was my first time I mounted my own PC buying the parts separably).

That exactly why I don’t like to play games on PC.

But it is really nice to these that play on it.

IMO CDPR should detect the CPU/GPU RAM and use the settings based in that and not in a config file.

If I have a 8GB GPU the game should run automatically knowing it has 8GB GPU to use.

This post is the second reason I don’t game on PC

Lmfao. Instead, you game on inferior sytems and act like PC wont' be fixed.

Get out of here. Please.

Same with me. No idea how such a small thing made it better but I have anywhere from 5-10 fps gain. Beautiful find.

I'm using this thing which does the same thing
Loadtimes are the same (a few secs) but FPS is way more stable. definitely not snake oil.

Well if you noticed I said second reason! First is because I play a LOT of online shooters. And we all know how that goes on the PC!!!

Im on a 3090 with 32gb of system RAM and even I was still getting the occassional stutter...usually in high crowd areas where its rained and the city is lit up at night. I can confirm this trick worked for me...Now its getting locked and running like the damn advertisements lol I been doin donuts for the past 30 minutes in the busiest areas while its wet out and everything is turned all the way up..No stutters, skips, nothing. I was usually able to to trip it up and make it skip doing that when showing a friend how it was happening..I can't get it to skip at all

And it was already loading fast since I got it on a speedy SSD. I'm goin back in to play some more lol

Maybe they planned to change the config to take advantage of more resources once they put a few patches out or something

Cause this feels amazing

This makes me happy as I too have a 3090, gonna try this when I'm home. I get the same stuttering issue driving through densely populated areas. Goes from 75fps to 40fps, it's really jarring.

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
Eh.. I get the feeling the game is dynamically determining these things despite what this config file says.

But I'll check it out later and see what my results are.

Is anyone doing this actually looking at memory usage before and after? Load times getting better is suspect.

i5 6600k, 1070Ti

I did this config and did not notice any difference. Do you need to change the "-1" variable? Before I was already getting maxed out CPU, GPU and GPU vRAM usage. Only weird thing is I'm barely using any system RAM compared to other games. ~8 GB total RAM used while playing.

Overall I'm getting better perf than expected based on prerelase specs. 4k, ,50 scaling and using most of DF's optimized setting (turned fog and shadow res down to medium, only differences). Also using Nvidis sharpening at 50. I'm getting 60fps indoors and 30-60 outside depending on what's going on. Better perf than my other "hard to run game", Control. Which i had to run 1080p medium and still got a lot of drops.

Basically getting about the same perf I do in all modern games with my rig.

Seriously.. What a massive difference. I've got a 3080 and 32 gigs of RAM and running the game pretty much maxed out and DLSS quality.

Before I was getting around 30-40 fps with some dips down to 20 fps sometimes and now it rarely dips below 50 fps. In the previous 20 fps areas I get like 40-45 fps now.

It's night and day! (Using the nvidia fps overlay)

I tried it out in the end and get up to an extra 10fps in some areas at 4k. Maybe there's something to this.

The downside is that steam is no longer tracking my play time or achievements in the game though.

Got a significant boost using this. Prior, my CPU usage was 100% with some stuttering. After, usage went down to between 50% and 70%. Gone up to a smooth 60fps at Medium settings 1440p. Loading into my save game from the title screen was about 5 times quicker too. Thanks for this.

Imagine playing on console and not having the ability to make these simple changes...

Ill give it a whirl on my 8700K / RTX 2070 although I have it running pretty good right now at 1080P / DLSS Quality

Using Sony fanboy logic, it's obvious that CP is having performance issues due to the PC's being underpowered. Unoptimized code simply doesn't exist. Fast hardware should be able to run bad code.
Don't forget the obligatory exceedingly clever tools meme or craig meme that typically follows one of these posts.

I updated my gpu drivers before playing 2077 and performance is good.
I don't even need to edit the config.
Right? That's exactly what I did, and no issue.

i7-7700K
32GB DDR4
RTX 2080 @ 1440P

Only bizarre thing I noticed was when I turn RTX on it's buttery smooth 60+ fps for awhile, until it randomly decides to be like 5 fps, and I'm not kidding lmao. When I turn rtx off and have everything on a mix of high and ultra it stays at 60+ fps, so I've just been doing that. Really not sure what the deal is with the RTX stuff.

Sometimes I wonder if it's a defect on my card because it's ONLY when I'm using RTX. The same thing happened when I turned RTX on in Cold War, however in Control it was just fine. Really not sure. But not a big loss on my part as RTX doesn't make THAT much of a difference in my eyes. Maybe I'll see if this does anything and try using RTX again to see if that works, haha.

All in all not sure why folks are hating on PC gaming in here, lmao. There are SO many different combinations of hardware that can equate different experiences. Some people find their problems, some don't, but it can happen with all games for various reasons.

so my gpu utilization was already around 95% but this pushed that to 98%. my cpu went from 50 to 60% as well.

i "think" i got a good 5 fps boost from this but i cannot be sure. i was on a highway where i was already getting high 40s (DF's optimized settings) but after doing this trick, it went up to the high 50s. unfortunately in the city where i was already getting around 40 fps, its still hovering below 45 fps.

there is definitely something off here, and a friend of mine said he got a good 10-20 fps boost from doing this, but i think this might impact some of the lower end cards. my rtx 2080 was already getting a good beating.

the biggest thing that made a difference was turning off the damn film grain and chromatic abberation. it made everything look so much more cleaner. it was ridiculously blurry before even when i was running everything at high including rt effects at 1440p at the quality dlss preset. what a massive difference. turn that shit off.

So I decided to edit my file to 11gb gpu and let it use 3/4 of my 16gb ram.
Got a nice performance increase and I thought it was running pretty well before I did it lol.

Did nothing for me. Gained couple fps from nvidia control some option where i put max performance.
Other then that not sure what could help, maybe res scaling mod, lower pedestrians.
weirdly it drops fps not from heavily populated areas, can walk trough people and its good fps but find some empty space turn around turn more and at some point you can find that lowest fps place, not sure whats going on could be watching to some 3 npc's at right angle and it drops fps but then driving is fine.

Wait, it only detects 3GB VRAM?

But every youtube benchmark i saw, shows the game using a lot more than that, somewhere between 5-8 GB.

"we developed this game for 7 years but forgot to utilize all your ram and vram, also we forgot to activate hyperthreading on AMD CPUs, whoops 🤷‍♂️"
Truth be told, on multi-CCX CPUs activating SMT could reduce perf in this particular game.

I'm not buying "oh, ain't it easy to fix, you fucks" take on it.
It's a huge game, with lot's of issues they knew exist, with many of them occurring at random and hence hard to catch and fix.

It probably will stay in "buggy" state for many months to come.

Here is the biggest question. Why do I have to switch to english voices and text everytime I start the game. NO CDRED. I DO NOT WANT TO READ GERMAN....
But you are using German as your preferred language on Windows, aren't you?

Yeah of course since I am German.^^

But I have never seen a game that does not save my language setup in the options menu. Having to change this everytime steals me 10 seconds of my precious time I will never get back....
