New Harry Potter game is in development, delevopers hurt by JK Rowlings comments

This made me laugh thinking about developers having their revenge, but I think a trans character creation option is fucking embarassing

We are supposed to play as kids or adolescents, how much is credible a 10 yo trans? LOL
This inclusive shit is going overboard, was a normal male / female choice offensive? How will they justify that, a sex changing spell? " I want a second wand, shazam!"

So does this sort of thing really work on trans activists? Your money is still going to enrich JK Rowling and her "hateful ways that directly put you in harm" but I guess that doesn't matter now because you have a trans option in the game? She is still making money from you, you morons!

Lol. Is this true? The trans activist community is willing to sell themselves out for a character creator? This is all it takes? All your boycotts and screaming about "putting lives in danger" can be bought off with a character creator option?

Hahah this is the funniest thing. And Jason is selling this as a win? Hahah what a corporate shill. These people and their millions of useful idiots.

We'll find out in 10 years after a generation of children are raised with this cultist propaganda in their kids videogames.

I mean... similar to Cyberpunk, full flexibility here would not be out of place or inexplicable in the setting.
Not at all, I know
That morphing potion ( can't remember english name, polyjuice potion?) gave the chance to be anyone iirc, so it's not totally out of place to be honest
Only weird to see trans kids

Yeah, I get the problem here.

Not too sure about it myself. On the other hand, the majority of players will probably be of an age where they can identify with a trans person as the protagonist.
And you always kind of project yourself into a character in these games.
That makes it less of an issue, IMO.
But, yes, it's still somewhat weird.

It's probably nothing, though, as outside of your character, I doubt you'll see many potential trans children running around.

I don't think he is talking about an adult, which is very capable of choosing his/her gender and sexual orientation.

He is talking about a kid. A kid barelly knows what they want in life, let alone know the meaning of sexual orientation.

Of course, along the way when the kid start growing and pass through discovery, this become more easy to believe.

How is it inexplicable? You play as a kid, last time I checked vast majority of kids identify as girls 'boys are smelly' or boys 'girls cry all the time'.

I think we can safely assume the idea for the potion is 'let's pull a prank on the rival House' and not 'I want to look like the gender I identify with'.

More options are good. If it means more people can enjoy the game and the devs feel better about working on the game I'm all for it. Anything to get the game out the door without getting stuck in development hell or ultimately canceled.

But for the actual crowd they are chasing this will never be enough. And showing weakness and the ability to yield at all just means the demands get more and more outlandish up until release date.

That’s because they aren’t being harmed and beaten up by anxious women in the ladies bathroom. It was just a ploy to get their way, like a screaming toddler throwing a tantrum in the grocery store until mommy relents and gets them their chocopuffs to shut them up. This was the goal.

I hope they enjoy people using this game to make female characters with deep voices for new “it’s a trap” memes...

Considering that Hogwarts is a place full of bullies, wouldn't be surprise if the creators choose some characters to hunt the MC(they kinda did this with the cash grab mediocre phone game). Unless this game is supposed to be a magical place where everyone is friendly to each other and theres no enemies or threats.

Those who want these types of options for a serious goal are never happy anyway.

Nah, instead urge him to engage in constructive discussion rather than drive-by insults.
That would be great but I don't see that happening in here, and I'm not talking about everyone of course, but this thread about developers feelings and hard choices keeps popping back up with continued insults from a stereotyped community. If you don't think JKR should be crucified, fine. I think it's a conversation that would require some nuance and would love to see it. People following up with dick-chopping jokes is not a defense for that woman's character.

I don't care about these options, no one is being forced to be trans or otherwise... But I find amazing how many people give it as a fact that J. K. Rowling words were trying to offend or even said something "bad" in any possible sense... I mean, I thought it's been enough time to check her actual messages and no what enraged media said...

So they're making a game where you can create teenage transgender characters? I mean I'm fine if they were adults but teenagers? This is just fucked up and it's going too far but what do I know.

A lot of people just knee-jerk react along ideological lines in the culture or console wars and immediately head for the trenches. But hey, you could always put a line out there and see if you catch any conversational fish. Obviously not about underlying political issues (not really the place in a gaming forum) but about the developers and difficult choices.

The woke left don't care about what she really said. All they care about is that a public figure like JK Rowling said stuff that somehow hurt the trans movement and thus she should be cancelled. They don't want any rational discussion of what she said because then they'd have to form an argument to counter her points.

Really, what makes this whole affair hilarious to me is these SJWs are desperate to justify their continued love of the Harry Potter franchise despite hating Rowling's guts. If they had any real conviction they would have burned all the HP stuff they owned long ago and stopped talking about this game.

Always wanted my kid to play as a trans 12 year old. Said every parent ever. I'm sure that an opinion from JK stating the obvious will be the only reason the game might not sell.

I can't think of a single gay character outside of Dumbledore's after-the-fact outing, let alone a trans character. The magic world is generally presented as being a bit behind the times, so in a world where continuing pure bloodlines is a thing in a notable way I'm not sure how being atypical in others ways would be received. Obviously it's not covered in a children's book series because it's... a children's book series, but if those filthy mudbloods and squibs get singled out there's no way people don't get called wand enthusiasts.

In terms of world building I think it's more likely that common disabilities would be addressed sooner than a rarer issues like gender dysphoria. How do wheelchair kids get up the stairs to the astronomy tower?

Talking about inclusivity, will ever be a time when game developers will correctly nail black people hair options? I love african hair variety, and whenever I have the chance to use a CaC, I go for a black character, for example, but only like, one game out of hundreds gives me actually good options to create and customize

Yeah exactly this, I clarified shortly after
They could virtually put a trans options in every game with a character editor, but please let games starring kids out of this
No Pokèmon, no Harry Potter etc.

Every game starring adult characters is ok, not that I'd create a trans character but ok, the option is there

Manga and anime games, jrpgs, every open world game and such, would only add something, but a trans kid or adolescents weirds me out lol

( not a tragedy of course, i'm only talking and taking it jokingly)

On the other side, medias often depicts trans people as funny and euphoric people ( in a very good way), I have blurred memories of a really funny Zelda character maybe? In Oot?
And the Gerudo citadel one in Botw made me laugh the shit out of it, fantastic

So I'd really have liked a trans professor for example, could have been a memorable character

What games did you think are good examples of having black hair options?

Every game with a character creator has trans options by default, because no one asked you whether or not they were trans.

It sounds to me almost like a 4chan troll to get devs to make 'trans character creation' possible having someone in a dress with a manly voice.
