Although DF focused pretty much solely on that one area, XSX was also dropping frames consistently in other areas.

Not as drastic, but drops to 59 and 58 are frequent on XSX, while the PS5 is locked 60. They didn't talk about that at all.

Because honestly there's nothing else to really say for the PS5. Its locked 60, no issues anywhere else, the end.

So lets get the straight and old need for speed still has problems anyways from the same area. dont bc on ps5 pretty run on ps4 pro legacy? So its not surprising that its running at full 4k at 60fps as ps4 pro was running at full 4k anyways

Exactly. I haven't checked GPU performance charts for this game but I imagine it doesn't take that beefy a setup to run this game at 4k/60 on PC. I would have guessed that both PS5 and XsX have PLENTY of headroom for this.

Like I said earlier, I don't understand the performance hiccup here. If it was just Series vs PS5 you could say it was I/O related but it's the same on One X vs Pro...so I dunno
Series S should be able to piss this at 4k 60. But life is strange I guess.

Someone is gonna have to explain to me why this is becoming a trend.

Multiple games now have one area, or one part one level, where performance tanks on Xbox consoles. I don't get why this happens.

What makes this particular case extra interesting is the same problem pops up when comparing One X vs Pro, so it isn't something SSD or I/O related (doesn't One X basically have better everything vs the Pro?). Same problem, same area.

Why is this area of the map only a problem on Xbox consoles, and exist across two different generations?

I would have thought this game would have a 120fps mode on PS5 and XsX. Yet this one part of the map can take the Series X into the 40s, and the One X into the 30s, seemingly at random? Weird.
Nope. PS4 Pro has one advantage over X1X in GPU and that's in pixel fillrate throughput. PS4 Pro is capable of 58.3 Gpix/sec while X1X is capable of 37.5 Gpix/sec. +55% more on Pro.
Likewise, PS5 also has a higher pixel fillrate throughput than XSX GPU by 22%.

DF have been doing damage control like that for every game since day 1, it's not news anymore but it's still hilarious. Obviously, they're the only ones saying this (not VGTech, not NXGamer, nobody else...)

You can't have software issues on every game released on Earth which would each time make the Series X version inferior.

At some point you have to admit PS5 just runs games better and move on.

Seriously... Do you really watch the video ? Sometime I really think that people only read and watch what they want and clearly don't use all information that are given...

Older games like these can run at 120fps and above but they're so heavily single-threaded that even on a PC with the latest Intel CPUs it might not be 100% locked 120fps.

how the hell is a remaster hitting 49 fps on the Series X? It's a 360 game.

I normally don't chime in on these comparison threads, but this is a great point.

Is there any good reason why this game should be dropping frames on either of these systems?

The difference here is either an unforeseen bug, or really shoddy development work. It's likely that the developers will become aware of this, fix the problem, and then both systems' fans can enjoy great performance across the board.

As pointed out numerous times, it isn't just a Series X problem, the same issue/difference exists when comparing the One X to the PS4 Pro version. It's something exclusive to the Xbox version of the game on across both generations, and to me just doesn't make any sense.

My point was that they didn't talk much about those random but frequenty 1-2 FPS drops on XSX.

Agreed that there isn't much to talk about PS5 here. It's just flawless, and that's about it.

There were only three options:

1. Missing tools (a 5-month old narrative now)
2. That road is cursed, hence the dropped frames. (I personally like this one the most)
3. A "software issue".

They went with option #3. My preference would have been #2.

That's because 1-2 frames is inconsequential for anything other than console wars.

Is baffling that things like that pass the Quality Control on X. This game should run at 4k60 with the fans stopped in the X.

1-2 frames don't matter to me, personally. But using those dropped frames in reference to that major dip during the zig-zag road might help understand things better.

Here is how I'm seeing this: XSX isn't a locked 60. It frequently drops 1-2 frames. Then it drops a lot of frames in that specific area -- which means it's hitting its limitations: either for data streaming (less likely) or for GPU (more likely). If it were a locked 60 everywhere else and dropped frames randomly in just that one area, a 'bug' would have been a more logical answer.

Which in turn removes the its the pixel fill rate causing the problem as SX drops below Pro in that section and that has a lot more pixel fillrate than Pro.

Seriously ? The game is running in 4K 55+fps on OneX and 4K 50+fps on PS4 pro .... It's obvious that there is a soft problem when the game is running on XsX, that's simply not hardware related, the game must run in 4K 60fps flawless on XsX as it is the case on PS5, not running just slightly better than on One X...

Oh look, another person that didn't watch the video and is looking rather silly now. It's a software glitch that also affects Xbox One X, has nothing to do with the hardware, but I'm sure you missed that because it's more important to console war.

Yes, sure, every time it's a software issue or glitch for DF.

Games run better on PS5, it's okay, your console is still great too.

The issue is exactly the same when comparing One X to the Pro, so I don't think this is hardware related. Is there anywhere the Pro has an advantage over the One X, hardware wise?

Same area of the map tanks performance on both One X and Series X compared to PS4 Pro and PS5. I find it really strange that this is happening.
I think you're wasting your time.

I didnt know this. Interesting. Another example where tf dont tell the entire story.

I'm also assuming anything else is just equal. Must be no resolution scaling either.

One of them did mention a few months ago that tools werent that great for the XBO consoles most? of last gen. Amazing that a company that likes to boast about the specs, hardware so much would be lacking on the dev software side still.

You're saying then, that it is not on the software side, so what is it that affects both consoles on the exact same spot? On a hardware level, of course, since you're launching suspicion on the assessment that it is something on the software side. That should be easy for you to do.

Of course it's a software issue. Games are software. What's stupid is blindly trying to use any one game as a benchmark of the hardware, without any awareness of how the games were made.

This game doesn't dictate anything about the consoles, just like Dirt 5 didn't, just like Hitman 3 didn't.

I agree that it doesn't make sense.

I don't know whether the issue is with Microsoft's development tools, or just some bug or poorly written code in this particular game. But this is a "remaster" of a game that's more than 10 years old, and performance drops like this shouldn't be happening at all. This game shouldn't be stressing either system. It's likely that this issue can be fixed.

Something seriously wrong with the games that have garbage performance on the series x.

Its getting to a point where Id like a proper explanation as this should never ever have problems like 50fps.

I'm interested to see what pc set up can play this at the same settings as its "another one" that needs patches to fix the obvious issues.

Problem area demonstrated on both Series X and One X compared to their PlayStation counterparts.

Otherwise the One X does a good job holding 60 according to John, and Pro averages around 50 FPS (again, according to John)

PS5 is locked 60 with no dips, and XsX is 60 outside of this area of the map that tanks performance and is a repeatable issue.

i legit laughed at that excuse. software issue? what other issue could it be? games are software. what are they even trying to say here.

i have defended DF for months but this is getting ridiculous. software issue. really? Cybperunk reviews shouldve just made that excuse and given it a 10 out of 10. "Guys, the game runs like shit. It's just a software issue. Move along."

Watching BC comparisons(yes i consider this bc shit) and the discourse around them is hilarious at this point. Even the commentary at points from DF when theirs a problem with the xbox version.

I honestly don't know exactly what that means/does. Could "pixel fillrate" explain the performance tank in that one area on both One X and Series X? Otherwise I don't see why the performance difference exists on the One X vs Pro.
Not saying that pixel fillrate is the reason for performance drops. It could be or it could be due to something else entirely. Something the devs should be able to find out if they looked at GPU profiling in that particular scene.

Pixel fillrate refers to the rate at which a GPU can render the pixels in a second. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipeline) aka Render Output Units is one of the several units in a GPU that is responsible for this job. It processes final pixel values before drawing them to the screen as well as performs pixel read/write tasks. The capability of this unit is measured in gigapixels per second (Gpix/sec). To calculate this, you need to take the amount of ROPs and then multiply it by GPU's clock speed.

PS4 Pro has 64 of them (ROPs) and X1X has 32.

64 x 911 = 58.3
32 x 1172 = 37.5

Fun fact: Sony/Cerny took Polaris GPU with 32 ROPs and decided to add additional 32 ROPs for a total of 64 ROPs for the PS4 Pro (similar to Vega GPUs on PC). X1X launched a year after Pro and still ended up with 32 ROPs, the same amount of ROPs inside a PC's Polaris RX 480/580/590 GPUs.
