AppleInsider: Sony plans bigger push to bring PlayStation franchises to iPhone

They should work on fucking Remote Play. Shit is in miserable state rn, even on PS5. They should really invest in and promote this feature more. Most people never heard or tried it.

The PlayStation Mobile publishing label already exists and operates, and has resulted in a few mobile titles including "Run Sackboy! Run!" and "Uncharted: Fortune Hunter" among others. It has also served as the publisher for some PC ports of PlayStation games, including "Horizon: Zero Dawn" and "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture."
From the article, this sounds more like Sony are just going to push more mobile-focused spin offs instead of actually bringing legitimate console titles to iOS. I'm sure they'll do good numbers, but it's not really an "industry shaker" since they're already doing it.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights

Yeah, I remember posting their Playstation Mobile section on the Play Store when some ppl were freaking out about recent Sony mobile gaming news.

They have been involved with mobile gaming for years. They still make smartphones.

sony is getting ready to go 3rd party.
after the big 3 swallow up all the third parties, a console doesnt make sense anymore
If thats the case they must have already went 3rd party and we all missed it.

Their mobile games date back to the middle of last gen. The Vita had its own mobile game store.

Most people don't give a fuck about the feature.

Any serious console gamer wouldn't use the feature for obvious reasons. I've only ever used it twice and that was to do inventory management in a GAAS game while at work. I wouldn't dream to use it to do any sort of serious gaming remotely.

Otherwise remote playing is pure utter shit.

Y’all, Sony teaming up with apple and expanding into mobile gaming is one of the smarter moves Sony has made recently. Mobile gaming is 3x the size of console gaming. If you have a hit in that market You’re looking at billions of dollars of revenue.

Darkness no more
It was only a matter of time for this to start happening once Blizzard was able to confirm that we all do indeed own phones. Now that the cat is out of the bag everyone will want in.

As long as it's a symbiotic thing and not an attempt at replacement then fine. Apple sells like 50 million iPhones a quarter.

It never works out that way, like ever. I wish it did but that's the way things go.

If only it were so simple
It was more of a joke post.

I know it's different, but I remember reading what epic said that they used fortnite Microtransaction money to build epic game store. And give out free games.

Its not game development but its one example of smartphone money being used elsewhere for pc games.

An industry shaker move if true.

Not just iPhones though, even Android. And it's mostly the new mobile division under PS. It's mobile gaming and probably they'll port PSP/PS Vita games on mobiles as well as most mobiles can run those games, PS3 games as well probably for some. Maybe that's part of the PSP/Vita and PS3 stores closure.

This is the future of gaming, but in backwards. Demanding games will still need consoles and capable PC's. Eventually mobiles would run even PS4 games. Smart move from Sony to tackle billions of mobile gamers instead of wasting time and resources on cloud gaming that most gamers don't give a shit about, although both can co-exit but one is vastly profitable. More than sure mobile gamers will appreciate more mature games than many of the ones offered currently on mobiles.

Jim might be single-handedly destroying Sony.

More like expanding the PS brand enormously. Jim Ryan is a fucking genius. With only $3.3B profit out of a massive $25.5B revenue, this makes pure sense and will bring so much headroom to both console gaming and mobile gaming expand in parallel so they can support more risky projects on PS5.

Anyone thinking of PS5 games or even PS4 at the moment to be mobile games could as well use a shoe as a brain with all the trolls in this thread. If any coming to PS4/5 it'll be simple F2P games like fortnite and so.

Its an ancient rumor that Apple wants to buy Playstation. It completely makes sense imo, and its a much safe bet than starting something from the scratch like google or amazon.

Since they bought Gaikai Playstation had the same intention as Xbox: To have Playstation everywhere. But right now, PS seems like they don't want to commit.

This right here. They’re all saying it. AAA development costs hundreds of millions and it’s a massive risk for them. Very few new games generate new franchises. To be able to recoup potential loses is a win for everyone as this mitigates elements of risk and drives creativity.

In essence, if you want new IPs they need to generate other forms of income. We know how loathed loot boxes are....

Yup, those 2 billion gamers Phil was talking about are mostly mobile gamers. Good luck with xCloud as the vast majority of people don't really care about such a service. Starting from the US it seems most people have capped internet, which makes cloud gaming even more ridiculous.

This will ease the transition for PlayStation ahead of the curve from the antique 86x architecture to ARM for future PS6 when more companies shift to give ARM more serious hardware, aka the future PC gaming as well.

Yup, that what makes me happy. When Sony has more money it's only a good thing for gaming, unlike others.

I'm sure any other manufacturer name in the same thread title would have led to exactly the same comments. Mobile has always been what "smart and successful" gaming companies invest into. Gears Pop was universally acclaimed here on GAF.
