I personally refused to pay the scalpers and just waited it out. I wasn't in a hurry to get one so Seriously looked for a couple of weeks and got my Playstation 5 directly from the playstation store. Gamepot had an online tracker and I just happened to go there after work and saw in stock. PLaystation direct has a good system to help keep out the bots Waited in a que for 19 mins, completed my a captcha, signed into my psn account, clicked the ps5 disk buy it now and the rest was history. Bonus as a ps plus member we get free 1 day shipping! So what is your story?

When I decided to get serious about trying for one, the best way I found was to follow people on Twitter who were tweeting as soon as some stock went up for sale.

I was able to get a Gamestop bundle this way.

I downloaded Twitter and fallowed 5 or so accounts that tweet stock updates for websites. Fallowed and activated push notifications. Took two weeks and I missed one drop by couple minutes. Luckily I was on my phone when another drop happened.

I had to refresh and click go to checkout I don't know how many times. It was a solid couple minutes of refreshing the page and going back. Eventually got it in my cart.

Supposed to be here Sunday. Can't fuckin wait to play Returnal.

XSX: Pre-order day, had 4 or 5 browser tabs open, constantly refreshing and clicking "Add to Cart" when possible on each one. Finally completed checkout on the Microsoft store at around the 1 hour mark. Gamestop seemed to have the best idea by queuing customers in order but after it kicked me out of my place in line, had to give up with them.

- XSX through pre-order with Amazon
- 2 PS5s (one for myself, one for my nephew) via online Walmart drop events
- You don't have it in the poll - but bought my Switch from BestBuy (online/store pickup) before the pandemic began

No scalping - paid regular price - you just have to do the work to find them.

EDIT: Discord channels are best options for near real-time updates.. Twitter feeds tend to be delayed..

I got damn lucky with the ps5 online preorder via Gamestop when the first wave of preorders went out. Never got an official confirmation email...just kept a copy of the order confirmation from the night I placed it. Wasn't until it was prepping to ship that they officially acknowledged the order.

Walked into Gamestop after the PS5 press conference last year and walked out easily with a pre-order. For the series-x I actually waited in line at Gamestop for three hours. A lot of people talked some mad shit about waiting in line for it. I think three hours of waiting with some fellow gamers beats playing gatcha games with online ordering any day of the week.

I had multiple ways:

Pre ordered the PS5 for launch day from Walmart.

Used this link for XSX and another PS5, I think its US only:



Got a XSX from Costco, PS5 from Sams. Both bundles but not crazy with stuff I didnt want. XSX bundle was cheaper, just an extra controller. PS5 came with extra controller and Miles disc. I still have it unopened, already have it digital.

I have bookmarked ppl's posts on here and other forums about following Twitter users not named Wario64. I wont lie, following him never worked for me. Their complaint was similar to mine, he did too many other stock drops and deals posts.

Since bundles are being pushed by retailers, dont go to scalpers.

How? You aren't the first person to say they did this but i don't see a sign up for shit on that direct.playstation.com . No sign up, just "out of stock", i got no emails from sony, and its bullcrap as I have been a psn subscriber since day fing 1. My screename doesn't even have numbers as i was that early into the psn. Have a playstation credit card and ps plus, they never sent me shit.

Kinda peeved, I had no issues pre-ordering a ps4 , gamestop took my money months in advance and I walked in and out on day 1 in 30 minutes. This time no such offers. This time I was there for the stupid online pre-order the morning of and it was sold out right away, apparently they started the night before , assholes. How do you sell out of pre-orders, take them all and put people in mfing queues. ..wtf... Tried launch day, and 12 other days since, multiple times in a day always to have asshole scalper bots steal shit from my cart. If you have something in your cart it should be locked to you for at least 10 minutes for checkout or don't put it in the cart at all.

Yeah i am pissed. My ps4 is overheating and i can't play any of those games. My ps3 has broken wifi/bluetooth, and that's on it's last leg. Ironically my ps2 is working fine.
Tired of and jealous of all you people who have the console. I have more than enough loot but I am not going to pay some scalper money, f them. F them to hell!!!!

Been doubling down playing PC and switch. May just buy a backup switch if they don't announce the pro soon (just in case it breaks, i have too many games invested to have what happened to my ps4 )

I think they mean they saw somewhere the PS Direct was happening. If you can get an early heads up about it, you do have a better shot at getting thru.

PS5 - I didn't fall for the "will go on sale tomorrow" message. Stayed up that night and scored two preorders because we wanted two consoles. My daughter scored one too but we cancelled it.

XBSX - Same thing, staying aware of when preorders started and putting in the "F5" work. Multiple tabs open and scored one when preorders went live.

RTX3080 - Not even F'n close to day one. No amount of "F5" was getting me one. Followed discord alerts and patience finally paid off. Picked it up from BB last week and installed it and a new PSU yesterday.

edit- I'm done with this gen purchases while supplies are limited even if Nintendo releases a new Switch or the others get a revision. I'm going to shift more of my gaming toward PC/PS anyway.

Got 2 PS5s at the first pre order thing on Best Buy online.

Me and a buddy from California both stayed on the phone while attempting our pre orders at best buy.

Sat around till 3 to 4 AM and both managed to snag a PS5 physical into our carts. He went to bed right away. I decided to try my luck and went for the PS5 digital. Ended up getting it 5 minutes right after the physical edition. 1 was shipped to me, other was a pick up at launch.

Had no luck on Series X until Walmart restock closer to Christmas. Managed to snipe it as the stock went up and got my Series X on the 24th of December at my house.

Kept physical ps5 for myself, gave the digital to my 5 year old nephew. Profit.
