The worst part is they still don’t have any of the nuance of said you tubers to even make a good point (Critical Drinker) and end up being reactionary morons (the quartering) constantly going for low hanging fruit that lames the same mental capacity latch onto.

Mary Sue is a complement in real life. As for other terms, not sure I care about what no lifer feminist simps think about me on the internet.
Sure, but you should care about using terms accurately. Aloy isn't only a character who isn't perfect, but her failure actually results in the death of someone very close to her. She isn't a character who effortlessly is good at everything. She's trained all her life.

At one point she also gets herself captured, and only escapes due to the aid of a male character, for goodness sake.

She's also a video game protagonist, so things kind of have to go right for her. Don't these things seem to work against your argument? Also "is a believable character" isn't the opposite of a mary sue, so your poll seems flawed. Most protagonist heroes aren't believable characters, because they do extraordinary things. "No, she experiences failure, and isn't naturally good at everything without training first," should be your second poll choice, because that's the opposite of a mary sue.

Does anything I've said seem wrong to you?

Do you pick them up by telling how much you fight for their rights on internet forums?

No but I didn't say that was a real-life compliment like you did. You actually think ANY woman (blue hair, Southern Hog, vegan, blonde gun ladies, etc.) would want to be called a Mary Sue? Have you ever complimented a woman by calling her that? Honestly curious.

Mary sue means a flawless person who doesn't have to struggle because she is so good at everything/everyone likes her. I would assume getting called that in real life would be a compliment no? As for whether I have called anyone that irl, no.

I've never heard anyone use Gary Stu in my life. Just checked, no GAF thread about Nathan Drake being a Gary Stu on record.
if it helps, i find N. Drake to be a boring character too... and a psycopath that can murder 20 people in a room while throwing sissy commentary

a Mary Sue or a Chuck Norris annoy me, but Aloy isn't one. she has been trained since childhood and here intelligence is actually part of the story. as in all fantastic fiction you need to go along a bit. although sometimes writers make the suspension of disbelief difficult like with The Last of Us2 and the new Star Wars trilogy.

Nothing wrong with lots of different views as long as everyone is allowed to express theirs. Shouldn’t have to worry about a ban every time you say something like at the other forum.

Strong women who grew up fighting in a post-apoc landscape? Sounds pretty accurate and awesome to me.
I didn't know that females became more masculine in their dna and grow questionable things in their panties under an apocalypse, but sure as hell doesn't sound like a world I would live in.

But awesome for you👊

She is not. In first game she started as outcase. Everything against her. Even other kids never liked it. She had to prove herself.
Mary Su would have it all handed to her or happen by accident

Or in other words she is a typical player hero character.
- main interest off story
- main interest of NPCs be they friend or foe
- morally good
- easily relatable

What's happening to this forum?

It's turning into pure shit. That's what's happening. I've literally never heard of a male character in ANY medium considered a "Mary Sue" or the male equivalent in my life. These type of questions are sexist in nature and purely made to either get strong women characters out of the gaming and movies or to convince nerds and virgin men that women are stealing all of our "awesome" strong male characters.

Eh? I have heard of it a few times. James Bond is a famous Mary Sue.

edit: oh man, i had to deliver a quality middle-school level zinger after the previous post, didn't i? it's like telling a weiner joke during confession at church. timing really is everything...

I like her. I enjoyed the meta-narrative design in HZD. I think I was able to appreciate her character more after some big reveals about her background and stuff, but I wouldn't call her a mary sue.
