Not the main Mario, Zelda, etc, games. What's the Mario team doing? Odyssey was a few years ago now...
From the people who seem to be the most reliable the Mario team (EPD 8) are being expanded to work on two games simultaneously (Donkey Kong and a 3D Mario). I expect one to come in 2022 and the other to come 2023.

Metroid Dread is actually the most impressive game I saw all E3. Funny how if you show it to normie he will most likely don't appreciate it, while people like me, who played Metroid on NES/SNES and Gameboy, are impressed with it more than any so called next-gen showed to date. Animation, lighting, small details in movement, aiming, new abilities and level interactions. So fucking cool.

Just got a chance to watch spoiler free- fuck that trash shit; full stop. Dread looks cool and another year for BOTW 2 the rest was straight ass piss- fuck you assholes! Worst. Direct. Ever.

Oh come on. A million indie games have done exactly this. It looks like a reskin of generic2dmetroidvania#1436

Wait, is Nintendo still using this codes to identify users???

(I do have a switch, I just never played it online or added any friends)

Because I haven't played a lot of the retreads they're putting out, I'm pretty excited about them. I'm pretty excited to play Advanced Wars 1+2. I remember them reviewing really well when they came I and I just never got around to playing them. So that's cool. I also never played Skyward Sword, so that's cool as well. Obviously BOTW2 and Metroid Dread were the highlights. I'm hoping they can do something special with Metroid.

B+ because they STILL skimped on BOTW2 footage.

Otherwise, a pretty damn good amount of variety. Nintendo really is selling the "something for everyone" aspect of these presentations. All genres and styles of games covered.

I liked Metroid Dread and will probably get it, also i never played any Advance War games but i like tacticals so i'll keep an eye on this remastered bundle.
And of course BOTW2, it's short but no CGI bullshit.
At the end a good conf, not amazing but above everyone else (MS one was ok too).

Yeah, still friend codes system. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community is highly competitive. Super Mario Party online is a lot of fun as well if you go into a lobby with three players who respect the game

SMTV looks awesome, BOTW2 looks like DLC imo. Also, Metroid I would need to play, but I was hoping for a 3D game.

Well, opinions and all that, but I wouldn't say they saved E3... however they did win E3.

• I'm okay with a Tekken guy being in smash. I don't like Tekken, but they already got Ryu and Terry, so makes sense. I keep worrying that they will add a super lame character that I totally hate but this is tolerable. One more slot to go, and so many great possibilities...don't make it Shadow the Hedgehog Marth's cousin's brother's son please

• Metroid Dread trailer didn't come off as cool and stylish as I like my Metroid games to be, but I'm sure it will be a great 2D metroidvania regardless

• I actually have a nostalgic soft spot for Monkey Ball, so I'm happy to see that collection honestly. I only really love playing multiplayer monkey target while drunk but I'll take the rest too

• I love Warioware when it's good and I can believe this one is good based on what I saw. Local multiplayer is great to have

• A new advance wars would be better but that collection is still pretty coo'

• SMT V looks great. Finally gameplay and a release date. Turn based rpg goodness

• Speaking of turn based, I never heard of Monster Hunter Stories before. I dislike the main series for the clunky movement/combat, so I'm a bit interested in turn based monster hunter and wondering if the first monster hunter stories was good?

• That green game and watch is stylin'. I want it big time, but they're skimpin' hard with only 3 Zeldas when Link to the Past or Minish cap would be great on it. Still, Link's Awakening is my favourite so I'm in

• I'm not interested in Hyrule Warriors, but I did have a kind of weird relationship with the original where I played it a lot. It didn't work as a game, but it worked great as kind of shrine to cool Zelda stuff. I say I'm not interested, but there's something about seeing princess Zelda revving a motorcycle that makes me reflexively reach for my wallet. Maybe I can get it all at a cheaper price with DLC packed in one day

• Good to see some BotW2. Looks great, and looks like there's some sky island stuff so you won't just be going underground to see cool new dungeons, which is how it kind of looked a bit in the reveal trailer

GAF's Resident Saturn Omnibus
Overall, not a bad showing, standard of what one expects from Nintendo late in a console's lifespan. A lot of videogames were highlighted in the presentation that appeal to almost everyone, so I'd say it was pretty good. You're probably not going to play everything, but there are likely two or three titles that grabbed your interest.

Here are a few quick notes of pros and cons. This is just off the top of my head, so don't consider it the "official critic's analysis" of Nintendo Direct:

- Tekken characters added to Super Smash Brothers is very nice and seems to fit into that universe very well. I think it's a better fit than the Virtua Fighter cast, that's for sure.

- Worms Rumble surprised me a little. It appears to be more of a SSB clone than the old style. But since there have already been a hundred games in this franchise that are all exactly the same, any change is welcome.

- Sega was hit or miss. Two Point Campus is worth a look and is at least original, instead of yet another Yakuza or Sonic sequel. On the downside, do we really need another Super Monkey Ball? I guess it's fine for fans of Wii-style motion controls, but the whole premise has been played out eons ago. But is this the best Sega could do on Switch? They're sitting on a gold mine of a hundred franchise classics that are collecting dust.

Once again with feeling: Bring. Back. Megamix.

- Mario Party Superstars looks pretty good and seems to make a few changes. That said, didn't we already have another Mario Party not too long ago? I'm assuming all the games in this series are big sellers, because Nintendo just keeps cranking out more. Same goes for Mario Golf.

- Just Dance continues to keep rolling, and Ubisoft has that magic formula where they can just keep cranking out pop hits forever and make a ton of money. As always, everything depends on the song selection, so if you like the songs you're hearing on the radio or the Spotify or the Sputnik or whatever, here ya go. And at least you can continue to play the older songs via the subscription service. Yeah, this franchise is going to outlive us all.

- Nice to finally see Wario Ware show up. These are always fun. Far too short and too easy, but always lots of fun.

- Cruis'n Blast looks awesome and one I will definitely pick up. I love classic arcade games, and Eugene Jarvis is the Francis Ford Coppola of videogames. I'll play anything he puts out just because of Defender and Robotron. And the Switch is desperately in need of good arcade racing games.

- Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2 is going to be awesome. I haven't played it on Sony & MS, but I'm going to assume it will rock and I'll pick it up on day one. I really should just plug in my Dreamcast and play these some more.

- Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp is the big surprise for me. I'm a huge fan of this series, and Nintendo wisely picked the best entries in the series (no, the Nintendo DS sequels just weren't as good). While I kinda prefer the original pixel art design, the new art style is terrific and promises to be a ton of fun. All I ask--all that I have ever asked of this franchise--is that Nintendo allows me to upload player maps and share with other players online. And give me more than three save slots this time!

- Zelda Skyward Sword HD looks nice, although I just picked up the Wii original and probably won't double dip on the Switch remake. It is nice to see the motion controls are being preserved, as well as the option of playing with buttons. That should keep all the fans happy and hopefully will give this game the attention it deserved the first time around.

- Zelda Game + Watch looks really good. I wasn't expecting three full games in the series, plus a host of extras. This is going to be a massively profitable hit, isn't it?

- Metroid Dread is interesting. We probably shouldn't be surprised to see it arrive, as Metroid Fusion was developed alongside Metroid Prime all those years ago. I'm assuming Yoshio Sakamoto is still "in charge" of the franchise, despite completely running it into the ground with the atrociously dreadful Other M, and that this project was offered as a peace offering in order that Retro Studios could work on Prime 4.

Note how this game is billed as "Metroid 5." The Retro series just doesn't count in Sakamoto's book, which is just petty churlishness. But what do I know? I still think the best "3D Metroid" is Powerslave on Sega Saturn, so that's what my opinion is worth.

I hope this will be good, but if there are any stupid movie scenes where Samus Aran acts like a baby-obsessed 12-year-old with daddy issues, no dice. I'll walk out.

- Nintendo has this tradition where a Legend of Zelda game closes out a game system, which suggests that if Breath of the Wild 2 is released next year, that's when they'll reveal their next home console. Whether it's simply a "Switch Pro" or something else entirely is hard to say. But critics who refer to the "Nintendo Checklist" will be betting on the latter. Personally, I'm hoping for the former because I'm honestly sick and tired of having to buy new videogame consoles. There's really no need at this point, especially where Nintendo is concerned.

I'm excited for it too, but give me a break. It's not some graphical masterpiece that only true gamers such as yourself can appreciate.

It looks like a remaster of a 3DS game.

When you take a step back and shake off the initial hype when watching it live, it was just okay.

The good: Tekken x Smash. Super Monkey Ball and the Fatal Frame ports could be worthwhile if they use the gyro controls. I hope Fatal Frame adds in the uncensored costumes they cut too. Getting WarioWare and Mario Golf: Super Rush. Nice to get a SMTV date at last, even if I don't like the character design. Danganronpa collection can replace my Vita versions. Breath of the Wild 2 of course looks incredible. And i'll buy that Zelda Game & Watch.

The bad: Metroid Dread looks very rough, almost like a 3DS game in high res. Even Prime on Dolphin looked better. I also didn't enjoy Samus Returns much and this is by the same dev. Advance Wars 1+2 has butchered the original sprite art. Almost looks like it was made by the Two Point Hospital dev. I'll stick to the GBA originals. No Wind Waker or Twilight Princess HD to go along with the overpriced Skyward Sword port. Bayonetta 3 must be vaporware by now, it's been 3.5 years. Nintendo doing nothing for Donkey Kong's 40th anniversary is sad.

It really needed one more gameplay vid of something like Bayonetta 3 or Metroid Prime 4 to be perfect. Pretty close though. Reminded me of the old E3 days when we got GameCube and GBA announcements. Stuff like Metroid Dread and Advance Wars is really pleasing.

Thanks for the average show Nintendo. If it wasn't for SMTV it would've been shit for me.

Where's a new Mario game? Where's Bayonetta 3 that was announced 4 years ago? Where's Metroid Prime 4? No new DK game? And BOTW2 a year from now and still in development, god knows if it gets delayed too? Why no new Mario Kart that's not a port?

Wtf is this direct?

it was a good Direct, it was not a great Direct or an amazing Direct, neither an awful Direct.

Showed lots of content, 2 fan favorite sequels, some old school games, party/sport games for the casuals. Lots of third party support.

Could have been better, could also have been worse but if the September Direct is a good one as well that makes one great Direct in a few months 😋

Thought it was good in terms of very minimal fluff and waffle from people, and just total focus on games.

Only two shit things are:
(1) Zelda BOTW sequel was really underwhelming. We had to wait all this time since the last reveal for a wavy haired person falling through the sky? WOW! Great! /s
(2) I guess all those "reliable insiders" were wrong about them revealing new hardware. Do they really have inside information or are they just guessing and being vague enough that they might be correct by chance?

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Yabuki turned off voice chat in Mario Kart races. True artists of their time.
Man, that Zelda G&W is making me really want a GBC mini, or just a Pokemon handheld player. Damn, those would sell like hotcakes.

-Metroid Dread
-Advance Wars 1 and 2 remake
-Kazuya in Smash Bros.
-Botw2
-SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI V
-Fatal Frame
-Super Monkey Ball ports
Thought it was a pretty good show. Then again it was probably because mostly everything else was so lackluster.
When everything else was so bad it makes the average into something wonderful.

You can clearly see when desperation hits hard. Is when you use real in game image of Craig (left) and a fake non existent of Alloy (right) to troll about the worst Nintendo direct of last years! The only games worth looking are : Metroid Dread and the ZBOW 2 !

Ok, after a few hours after the show and rechecking everything again. It was a meh conference.

Metroid looks good, but it's no Metroid Prime.
SMTV looks pretty cool tbh
Zelda was just a small taste. Even though it looks good, it's not enough.
Fatal Frame was an amazing surprise.

The rest was a borefest. So i would give it a C.

Zelda looks cool, but Nintendo not massively investing in other games of that caliber (besides 3D Mario maybe) is disappointing for me, especially with how much money they're making.
I do not particularly like Sony's first party output, but I can acknowledge that in most cases, they put a lot of effort in those and it shows. And by efforts, I mean money, which is the only quantifiable effort one can put in a game.
I only own a switch, but I'll probably jump to Xbox eventually if enough of their exclusive games deliver.

What really puzzles me is that despite the anniversary Eiji Aonuma mentioned something like there are no other Zelda games in development besides Skyward Sword HD, Breath of the Wild 2 and that Game and Watch thingy...
That's a little bit sparse for celebrating such a big franchise, especially compared to last year’s Mario anniversary. I hope it was just bad translation and we will get at least a Twilight Princess/Wind Waker Remaster this year.

I honestly hate that Nintendo took some lessons from "the Sony book" and started to make these stupid premature announcements, especially this gen. Why the F they had to talk about SMTV in Jan 2017? Why bother to talk about Metroid Prime or Bayonetta - "just so you now that we are STARTING to work on the game" - come on...
It creates this ongoing feeling of a noticeable disappointment, people have extremely high expectations etc. Can you imagine if they suddenly dropped a playable demo of Bayo 3 or Metroid Prime 4 during the show, without mentioning it earlier - that would be MASSIVE!
I prefer to be positively surprised, this gets me hyped and I know that I don't have to wait 5-10 years for a f*** video game. So tired of this s***, kills the whole excitement about these shows. Ubisoft should be ashamed as well, with pieces like Beyond Good & Evil or this WiLD announced in freaking 2014 XD

Metroid Dread (V) was an awesome surprise. SMT V looks good to me personally. Kazuya was a unexpected but pleasant surprise too in Smash. I loved seeing the salt in the chat with people saying "Who? Who is that? Why?" 🤣🤣

I think Nintendo was holding back announcements. During Covid times, that may even be the smartest way to do?

Anyway, Metroid Dread looked great. That was a nice surprise!

Monster Hunter Stories 2 looked surprisingly awesome, too. I always liked the artstyle of the orginal Monster Hunter games, but the actual gameplay wasn't for me.

BotW 2 looked - obviously - amazing.

Good not great, which in this year is kind of a victory, I guess. Japan is having a pretty bad time adjusting to Covid working conditions (and the internet over here is pretty garbage, IME). Regardless of why, though, it certainly didn't blow me away.

I know SMT finally coming is a huge deal for fans, Metroid Dread is a big deal for me, and the sky ruins of BotW 2 looked amazing... but for every good thing they had to show, it felt like there were two disappointments.

BotW2 won't hit until 2022. No other Zelda releases or remasters than SSHD. No Switch Pro announcement earlier in the week. No DK, no Mario, no Monolith Soft presence at all (not even a rerelease). No Bayo 3 or No More Heroes 3 or Splatoon 3. No big new IP. Etc. Etc. Given what could have been, what we actually got was a little lackluster.

For me, even if Nintendo had higher highs (Metroid Dread baby!), MS had a much better conference overall. Here's hoping there's a megaton Direct somewhere in the rest of the year. Not that they need it to keep selling, of course, but it would be nice to get a bone.

TL;DR: I liked what was shown, but is that it?

The Mario team was working on Bowser's Fury and the 3D All-Stars collection.

I don't see the problem here, they are shipping out more games than they ever have.

Underwhelmed as expected, as it is my honest expectations were low. On that basis Nintendo is consistent.

Nintendo consistently delivers!!! Lol

Would have loved a new real Metroid game but not when it's European made thank you.

Can't wait for SMTV tho. And was excited for more Danganronpa but I own the three mainline games already on Vita, so not sure yet about getting the Summer School thing seperately.

Fatal Frame is shovelware from the WiiU which is too bad, would have loved a new entry.

All around pretty bad I guess.
