Nintendo is firing on all cylinders right now and it's great to see after the Wii U era

Switch sales are on fire, that Mario movie is going to be huge, Oled and Dread in a week, SMVT shortly after, a Kirby game that has the production values of Mario Odyssey coming out early 2022 along with an open world Pokemon, more Monster Hunter Rise, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3, BOTW 2 and I'm getting on that Actraiser remake rn one of the best games ever, third party support is stronger than it's been since the SNES. I can't wait to see what the second half of 2022 has in store. I have a feeling we're in for a big year.

Such a huge departure from last generations mediocre offerings.

I see momentum for the platform staying incredibly strong.

People like to talk shit, but its a ton of games I want to play lined up. 2022 seems to be the best year since th4 Switch launch year, and it hasn't even started yet.

Metroid Dread
Voice of Cards
Brain Age
Kirby Automata of Us
SMT V
Bayonetta 3
Splatoon 3
Triangle Strategy
MH Rise Expansion
Breath of the Wild 2

Thats a pretty fun year so far. Switch will go out with a bang.

I can understand you want to play those games, but Triangle Strategy? Brain Age? I can give you BOTW2 and Kirby (who look a lot like Mario 3D World imo), the rest isn't really my cup of tea nor big production (an expansion, a 2D platformer, Bayonetta 3 looking worse than 2....).
I'm not saying they will be bad games, but in term of appeal we had better years.
Nintendo need to put some serious power into the Switch 2 because the lack of titles like Kena, Hogwarts Legacy and many other is sad.

But that's just my opinion.

One man's trash is another mans Treasure. Metroid is the only game off that list I care about. Yes I own a switch!

Well we all know why :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:With all the people proclaiming Nintendo dead last generation and dancing on their grave, this revival, this complete resurgence on every possible level is understandably difficult for them to watch.

Metroid next month, Bayonetta 3, a new Kirby, a new Resident Evil (to be announced), Splatoon 3 a freaking Mario movie i love Nintendo.

Its amazing to see all Wii U classic getting a second chance on Switch, they deserve it and the Zeldas are just a matter of time.

Obviously alot of their 2022 lineup is still hidden they have 3 Directs in a year, hoping for that Donkey Kong and Metroid trilogy HD

Original post is a little hyperbolic, but I don't understand the amount of cynicism in this thread. Is there anyone who has any honest affection/nostalgia for Nintendo who isn't excited for next year?

Pokemon Legends, 3D Kirby, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3, and Breath of the Wild 2 alone puts it in the ballpark as the Switch's two best years (2017 and 2019) and, judging by history, Nintendo is likely still holding first party 2022 titles to announce in the February and June Directs.

And that's without discussing Mario and Rabbids 2, Triangle Strategy, or any other third party titles.

Like, what cause is there for pessimism here, unless you're strictly into hardware power and/or have no interest in Nintendo's franchises, in which case, like, what are you even doing in this thread? Are you just here for the console wars?

I could absolutely see someone complaining about this year (though it's not bad at all in terms of the number and variety of releases, just lacking in "huge" games) or 2018 (a year that was only saved for me by the fact that I never owned a Wii U) or especially 2020 (which would have been truly abysmal were Animal Crossing not such a huge hit), but if next year doesn't excite you, I would be curious to know what you honestly want from the Switch.

Triangle Strategy (stupid name) looks good to me, but that's probably about it. And I assume it's coming to PC anyways, like BD2 and Octopath Traveler, so...

I agree Nintendo was on cruise control in 2020, but I have little doubt they've been working on a ton of exciting stuff amidst all the Wii U ports. It bought them time and now we are starting to see the fruits of their labour, and that's a scary thought considering how successful they've already been.

You actually nailed the issue on the head.

With Nintendo it's always a matter of affection or nostalgia. Being pleased by Nintendo's lineups is, most of the times, fueled by irrational aspects.

Personally, I care little for nostalgia, and I've ran out of affection for reheated soups.

The Nintendo I like is the one that comes with games like Astral Chain and Daemon X Machina. Certainly not this.

Lot of fun titles to look forward to for me:

MH Rise Sunbreak
Splatoon 3
Kirby The Forgotten Land
Pokemon D/P Remake & Legends Arceus
Metroid Dread
Voice of Cards
SMTV

Hopefully a new Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 4, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 properly unveiled next year, too!

I've got things to look forward to on every platform even if some are still TBD.

Yup, awesome lineup, plus they haven't shown all of their games for 2022 yet, so I'm super pumped about what else they could have in store for the next year.

After everything that went down with the pandemic and such, it looks like Nintendo are finally back in the game and will be killing it with their software releases starting with the lineup they have prepared for this holiday.
Switch will go out with a bang.
P.S. Switch ain't going anywhere ;)

Triangle Strategy looked great. The world needs more FFTactics style games.
Liking all the shmups that are dropping out of nowhere too like Esp Galuda II.

Not too keen on Nintendo's 1st party output though:
Miffed about the garbage tier developers on Metroid Dread.
Still not over Advance Wars Remastered generic new look.

I'm also extremely happy to get a release date on Triangle Strategy

Nintendo's output is pretty much on par with the other two. There’s the same amount of upcoming games that interest me and the same amount of which don't. Usually 2-3 games for the next six months

There's a limited amount of "must play" titles in the game pass library too but a lot of "since it's free" which I definitely enjoy playing but probably wouldn't buy.

PS5 has only R&C so far. I will get the console when I'm able to

But anyway, from my perspective, it is pretty equal for all three companies. I don't understand this need to put any of them down.

lol i swear i feel like I live in some alternate reality after I see people praise these Nintendo directs.

Though it's obvious that fans of Nintendo are perfectly fine with what Nintendo puts out and I think there is something to be said about that. Nintendo gets their fans, and delivers what they want. I dont get the same feeling from Microsoft and Sony anymore. I get the opposite from Sony and Microsoft. It's like they forgot why we became fans of Xbox and Playstation in the first place.

This is me. This has actually been my feeling ever since the Wii, to be honest. I just don't get the hype. I kind of liked the Wii U, but I did not buy it until after the Switch launched and I would never have paid $300 for it. Granted, Nintendo offer solid games, but it's very much the same year after year after year, and the success with the Switch has made them particulary lazy.

I must admit that they do have great line up. I just hope the performance of the switch can keep up with more demanding gfx for next year or two.
Although I do love my Switch - hope they'll come up with some more capable hw that can deliver at least 1080p/60fps docked or 720p/60fps for most of their games.
To be honest, I'm saving to play some of the action heavy games like Age of Calamity in hopes to play on more powerful h/w.

Falling in love with the Switch all over again.

Ridiculous amount of games to play. I can't possibly come close to playing like a quarter of what I wanna play.

---

Actraiser could definitely look better visually but graphics aside it's so damn great to see it.

Me and my bros flipped out when we saw it. Completely unexpected.

Actraiser is one of my favorite games of all time. The new music is fucking magnificent, just like the original music.

---

I still have yet to buy a Kirby game but this new one will definitely be the tipping point I've been waiting for forever. Now I want a 3D DK like that!

---

I want that Castlevania Collection badly too. Those are some great games.

Crazy. Its 2021, and the console winner turns out to be the Switch. And it looks like next year it’ll be Switch again
The crazy thing about Switch's success is we're in year 5 and momentum is getting stronger without a real price drop.

I think this thing is going to shatter every record ever held.

The thing is they are making the games that drive the hardware sales and Nintendo are great with creating games that look and perform great. It's a weakness for third party games, but that's not what's selling the console.

I would say the third party support is great. I prefer the Japanese Third Parties and indies more so than the big budget western AAA games.

I'm loving the third party support and it will continue. My point was though, is that Nintendo is selling the vast majority of Switch's with their own games, and their games always look and perform well. Switch's power level is only really a struggle for high end third party games, but in the grand scheme of things those are not the games selling the console. So, I think the Switch in its current form could be around a lot longer than people think because Nintendo could keep pumping out these games as for as long as they want.

more like they look okay and perform okay, they don't perform "well" by any means.

BOTW still has a ton of FPS drops and its years after it was launched.
