Wow, Metroid Dread really is the Soulsborne of Metroid (no spoilers thread)

No one is triggered honey

The comparison to that series any time a game has even a modicum of challenge is fucking retarded.

"honey"?

You really do seem like a triggered console warrior. Jumping into a thread to derail with nothing but name calling and overly dramatic capslock and emoji riddled drive-by posts rather than actually engaging in discussion. Quit behaving like a child and shitposting. It's not clever and it has no value.

Look, we all need to acknowledge that when two people disagree online, the person who starts throwing around emojis, caps, and endearing nicknames (sarcastically), like there is no tomorrow, is always triggered.

it always comes with a transparent air of “I’m not upset! This is so funny to me!”

Reddit has taught me this.

I'm glad they upped the difficulty, and the parry is the best thing to ever come to the Metroid franchise. The old games gameplay is a limitation of their time. If you took those old game's stories and adapted them to any other form of media, Samus and her enemies would be fast as hell, reacting at high speeds dodging and attacking each other. Other M was the first game i really understood just how dangerous Ridley was as an enemy and creature in general.

Not that I dont believe you...but I don't believe you.

I will believe it when I see it but I don't see Nintendo putting out a very difficult Metroid game but I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Either you are really good at Metroid games or haven't played too many of them. (I don't mean that as an attack)

Metroid games are always tough, I can't even think of an "easy" one.

edit- I've never played Other M or the 3DS titles. I've played all the other games though, never beat any of them, lol.

I woud not call them easy but they are not actively difficult in the same terms of a souls game, IMO.

They always had a good difficultly curve and never overly difficult for the sake of being difficult.

So if you get killed by those robots you just start at the beginning of the room without any missing hp or what so ever.

what was punishing again?

Its the exact same as most modern games, i feel it unnecessary, for example games with save points have autosaving i wish it could be turned off :/

I only have one question. Do you get hit if you just touch an enemy, even if they aren't attacking?

It's the only thing I really hate about metroidvania games, despite loving them.

I hate it so much when game use lack of checkpoints to pretend they are "difficult"... a difficult game is difficult because the player needs skills for the upcoming challenge, not because could get unlucky by getting killed after beating a very difficult boss and at the exit a low level minion happened to be waiting to attack... and have to repeat all over again until beating that boss again (looking at you, Metroid Fusion... I even made a rant thread lol), that's just trolling and not fun, I'd rather have several checkpoints and difficult challenges one after another than checkpoint trolling, if I didn't played the 3DS Metroid already, I'd be worried and could probably skip Dread until I confirm they don't do this shit again cause that's basically shitting on player's effort and time

I mean aside from difficulty spikes with II and Echoes every Metroid game is easier than the last. Difficulty just isnt a focus with Metroid really.

Game is pure joy, I stopped after the first boss, I thought it was amazing despite it having what I usually would hate, it is just so perfectly executed here.

Man now just imagine a world where the Switch OLED had a performance boost too, so you could play this game at higher framerates. Regardless, very excited to finally get to play it. I've been craving a proper 2D Metroid for a while.

Can we PLEASE stop calling every game thats challenging as "soulborne" game. I'm sure Dread is great game but it doesn't need compare itself to those games.
Yeah I agree. Souls games have a crude level up system and is the only reason why they seem challenging. Metroid is it's own genre and is primarily a run and gun kind of game.

Yeah, "Sekiro's high difficulty" just meant I would grind a lot early so that dying against a boss or new enemy wouldn't result in a big EXP loss.

I love FROM games but Metroid and Souls series are two different games with different gameplay loop, just because a game is difficult it doesn't make it "Soulborne".

I HATE this stupid trend with passion.

But grind what exactly? Sekiro is not RPG like Souls series and only way you get attack boots is after you beat a major story boss.

Just the various skills and stuff. I wasnt doing it to over-level or anything I just didn't feel like losing a bunch of EXP because I died twice on a boss. I grinded a bunch in the beginning until it went too slow to be off much use then just played through normally. Occasionally I'd grind again here and there whenever I got close to having enough skill points for another unlock and then resume.

Sekiro doesn't really have RPG status for people to grind in order to beat bosses. Other than Mikiri counter most skills are not MUST in order to beat the game.

The correct genre is Action-Adventure.

Or simply an Action game.

Souls formula games are very much grind for EXP currency to level up or improve your character. To the point it's tedious. The only Souls game I genuinely like is Nioh 2 and primarily because anything the game can do you can do it too.

Of all the gameplay I've seen for Dread I haven't seen anything close to unforgiving game design that is found in a lot of FROM Software games and those mimicking it. Do I think it will be challenging? Yes but not as Archaic as what you call Soulsborne. Memorization of the maps and every enemy type isn't required.
