I remember when only Gran Turismo could sell close to 10 million copies now they have:

God of War

Horizon Zero Dawn

Spiderman

Last Of Us

Uncharted 4

Update:

From 2 years ago The Last of Us over 20 million & Uncharted 4 over 16 million

From a few days ago God of War 19.5 million https://blog.playstation.com/2021/10/20/god-of-war-2018-is-coming-to-pc/

From 2 years ago Horizon Zero Dawn 10 million sold https://blog.playstation.com/2019/0...anniversary-10-million-copies-sold-worldwide/

From a year ago Spiderman over 20 million sold https://www.vg247.com/spider-man-ps4-20-million-sales

I think GoT, TLOU2, Horizon 2, GT7, GoWR, Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine will join them.

aren't Nintendo's in the 30s millions?... that's crazy high attach rate
If we look at Switch, 3DS and WiiU only a couple of games achieved 30s.

With bundles, maybe.....

None of those games are coming close without them.
Even without bundles all of them will sell above 10M.

GoT and TLOU2 should be pretty close before releasing them in PC. Horizon 2, GT7 and Spider-Man 2 for sure will achieve them because will have better sales than their previous entries that already achieved that due to having a bigger userbase when released. And Wolverine is a top Marvel IP developed by a critically acclaimed dev and released in the 2nd half of the generation, with a huge userbase, so for sure will sell a shit ton amount of copies too.

Wii U didn't even sell 30 million units.
True, so its games couldn't sell 30M copies.

So they haven't yet but will soon because you said so?

I think I'm going to need better sources than that.

Im pretty sure TLOU2 is already at 10 million but the numbers haven't been updated & GOT & Spiderman: MM will be close to 10 million after the holidays
Not likely. We would’ve had incremental numbers for TLOU2 if it was trending that high. GOT might do well, but 10 million at this point is pretty unlikely. I expect the sequel might push those numbers if it’s received as well. S:MM won’t get that high simply because it’s a short expansion for the original game that already sold crazy good numbers within spitting distance of its release.

I think it sets bad precedent for upcoming games as sony will cancel other titles which did not perform well in their dictionary. For ex DAYS GONE got canned as it did not do well.

Yep, Sony has a bad habit of not giving good first game a chance to grow as a franchise

For example, Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, though not 1st party, those two are amongst the best games in their respective era. But because they didn't sell more than 2-million copies, Sony abandoned them. stupid!

This has got to be the most pitiful thread OP I have ever seen.

OK? Can we get some figures and stats to see for ourselves or? Some info that compares it to previous releases or sequels?

This feels like a tiktok amount of effort lol.

Days Gone did well, not far from launch it sold more than all previous Bend Studio games combined according to its co-director. Sony was happy with the game according to him.

Not greenlighting a sequel to be developed right after the first game doesn't mean they weren't happy with it and doesn't mean the game will never get a sequel. It can be due to many reasons, like them already having too much sequels under development at that point and wanting a new IP instead leaving the sequel for later.

Sony funded the remake of Demon Souls for PS5 and Bluepoint is rumored to be working on the Bloodborne franchise in some regard. Don't see how that is "abandoning" anything.

I'm not sure sales were the problem with Days Gone.

I didn't.

PS3 could never really achieve it. Infamous, LBP, Killzone I think they didn't really go past 3 million ish. Perhaps 5 after a few years? Even Uncharted, I remember it not breaking 10 million on PS3. Even UC2, which is according to wiki at 6.5 million units as of 2015. I think I remember those games not breaking past 3 million after debut year. God of War 3 I think didn't go past 5 mil either.

Meanwhile, Halo, Gears of War sold a lot. So the consensus was that SP wasn't as viable.

But then we have the PS4. Horizon, a NEW IP, from the makers of Killzone, an FPS with an inconsistent reception, sells like what, 20 million as of today (it was over 10 mil like 2 years ago)? God of War 2018, I believe its past 20 million. I've looked it up some time ago and it outsold every prior God of War game combined. Ghost of Tsushima, I'm willing to bet it outsold all Infamous games combined. Days Gone, with its Killzone ish scores, should be at around 8 million or so? PS4 was absolutely a software selling beast.

Maybe Sony are worried about open world fatigue with their first party offerings?

I think that's more like, overtime, they received feedback that those games are amongst the best and most beloved games, they never had a plan for sequels.......even Bamco recognized it first and beat them to the punch with Dark Souls

I think it is more "bad open world fatigue". Cuz personally, I don't think Days Gone measures up to any of their other open world offerings.

It's hard for me to judge as even Tsushima and Horizon felt like paint-by-numbers open world design. I thought Days Gone was beautiful and the horde concept was at least interesting, but underutilized. Throw in Spider Man and then some of the other heavy hitters having semi open world sections in their games (Lost Legacy, TLOU2, GOW), Sony could do with some variety. At least their games encompass a lot of different themes and settings.

A writer for Eurogamer (or Outside Xbox) said the main issue was that it felt as though you were playing the same game 3 times over.

It was kind of a mess at launch. And the game does drag on forever and doesn't really take advantage of its' coolest feature early on. I got to the military base and put in about 15 hours and only saw two hordes.

Yeah it’s pretty crazy, Nintendo-like numbers.

My exact thoughts this is Nintendo like. Even when PS2 was selling like hotcakes Sony games wasn't selling 15 million copies.
But it's not? Having a larger install base and doing great games does that. The attach rate for the Nintendo first party games is absolutely crazy. Once Switch does PS4-like numbers some of its first party games will sell around 40 millions at least.

Lol! Fatigue of winning many GOTY awards, getting great reviews and having games selling over 10 million copies? What fatigue are you talking about?

They said new IP from Bend Studio is going to be an open world game using the mechanics and systems they built for Days Gone. DG had some flaws, something understandable since it was their first open world game and first home console AAA in several generations, but other than that was pretty good. I'm pretty sure they were going to iron these smaller issues in their next game indepndently if a new IP or a sequel.

Well it was more then wanted them to make a new ip instead. When that's finished they could still allow a sequel.

I took a 6 month break from the game at that point, as I thought I'd reached the end, but then discovered it just keeps going! LOL! :)

I did platinum it, in the end, but ... yes, it sort of outstays its welcome, which is a shame.

Being shorter would've helped it, a lot.

"Worried about" would indicate a future state. We are talking about Sony not green lighting a sequel to Days Gone. Maybe learn to read.
