the switch will probably hit 800 million software this year even with Nintendo's funky counting methods
Easily, I'm thinking 90m in Q3 and 55m in Q4 for 826m by fiscal years end. Then 22-23 will match 21-22 and that will put it over 1 billion and then the long road to 1.5 billion begins.

Great thread, I saw it’s potential 🤡 it’s what Nintendo have been building to from the Gameboy up! 30 years in the making .

Given that the console is still sold at full price, and even arguably had a price bump with the OLED (that screen and kickstand aren't costing 50 bucks to Nintendo...), the switch it's probably by far the most profitable piece of hardware in history at this point.
Switch = $14.92bn
PS4 = $11.33bn
NDS = $11.04bn
Wii = $10.56bn
PS1 = $3.8bn
PS2 = $2.8bn
PS3 = -$5bn

Switch has already made more profits than the entire PlayStation hardwares combined.

I don't know how legit these numbers are but I don't really care, this is still hilarious.

Ah, this old thread bumped once again.
The first two pages are the definition of „Wall of Shame“
This thread shall be and needs to be bumped for every Switch sales milestone, just a reminder that it's tough to judge or predict a consoles success.

I'm a Switch owner and love the console, though I do still find the library sorely lacking and the impossibility of plugging an external HD to the dock rather infuriating. That being said, Nintendo still has not met its target for the year. The console market has changed a lot since the GC/PS2/XBX days and bear in mind that, in that same fiscal year - from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018- 19 million PlayStation 4 consoles were sold.

I actually think it's very possible the Switch will stagnate around the 35-40 million unit range - not quite sure if this would be a disaster for Nintendo.
I've been going back through this thread to laugh, this one was posted late 2018 when the switch was already an astounding success and dominated sales charts.

holy shit, the denial is incredible lmao.
This is your brain on sony. Even when you can clearly see the success, you doubt. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm pretty sure my first reply in this thread all those years ago was pretty negative, but that was right after the Direct that only promoted Arms and 1-2 Switch or whatever, and I fucking hate gimmicky motion controls. That january Direct right before launch did absolutely nothing for me, and I just deciced to get BotW on Wii U instead.

Once I did decide to get a Switch in late 2018 it had a ton of great games, fantastic Japanese third party support and there was not even a single hint of motion crap anymore. Right now it's one of my 3 all time favorite pieces of hardware, but at launch? Wouldn't even have made it in the top 20.
but that was right after the Direct that only promoted Arms and 1-2 Switch or whatever,
The first direct had -
Arms,
FE,
Zelda BOTW,
SMT,
Mario Ody,
Xenoblade 2,
Splatoon 2,
NMH
and prob more im forgetting, what are u smoking?

Y'all real weird on this forum lol.

OMG this is epic bump

Even so, right now Nintendo threads are mostly ignore. Majority is just Sony shilling; sony, sony, MS vs Sony, XSS vs everyone, sony, sony, PC tries to fight everyone but mostly ignored like Nintendo, sony, sony, Xbox green rats yay!!, sony, Nintendo sales but mostly ignored, sony, sony, MS vs Sony; rinse and repeat

I'll take a stab at it. I'm all in on it being a crazy success. Am I too late to the party on this one.

I'll admit that I wondered whether or not it would be successful when announced. It seemed too weak for a console and yet too big as a portable. I guess Nintendo knows their customers better than I do. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

🤣

quote - “I believe this is the start of them officially moving out of the home console market“ (and switching to mobile phone software only)

One of the best crow eating hot takes of all time lol. A 12 minute hot take video on how the switch will flop and just isn’t what people want, and people will buy an Xbox one S instead because it’s got a 4K bluray player or a PS4 pro for the better graphics 😂. Bangs on about it not having an Ethernet port too hahaha. Says that games like Zelda and Mario only appeal to the older crowd and that’s the wrong market to target 😂

Yes the denial even in the face of the Switch breaking one sales record after another is so funny, guess they just did not want to admit defeat, so their only option was to state that even though the console is doing well. doom is only just around the corner, what they failed to see is that was just the popular console and P.C port coming to Nintendo's record breaking home and hybrid console. ;)

I think the 5.8K views of this video say more than the ludicrous video itself. ;)

The first page is classic. It reminds me of the "professional" analysts that gaming magazines used to interview back in the day who were always wrong about everything in the market.

To everyone years later laughing at those thinking the Switch would fail like the Wii U or GameCube, how many of you were honestly predicting the console would be a 100 million seller?

From the reveal it looked very promising, but you had to remain slightly cautious after the Wii U, but still thought it would do very well.

It's crazy the X1 is considered a 'failure' and it outsold the SNES also its pretty cool how Nintendo got a complete mulligan on the WiiU. It's like it never existed.

On topic it's clear no one really thought the Switch would be as successful as it is. Perhaps power isn't the most important metric in a console. Maybe the XSS has a chance too.
