Xbox and Bethesda Showcase June 12th

Was very underwhelming. Not a lot games took my interest apart from High On Life and seeing Kojima's face making me loose my shit. Starfield, hard to get hyped about when you have a professional liar presenting the game.

You and me both. This show was very underwhelming for me.

D4 looked incredible and so did Starfield. But that is nothing new and expected. Redfall was pretty cool. Where is the next Id game? Where is Perfect Dark, Fable, State of Decay 3, Awoved, Everwild, Wolfenstein 3, Indian Jones,, like what the hell is happening?

H1 2023 :D

You can bet your ass I'll put in 100~ hours in Persona 5 and similar in 4 and 3 when they release via game pass.
Starfield, not sure about Redfall at all. Will be interesting to see when it comes. Forza is good for racing fans.

Persona yeah great old games.

lol @ the trolls criticizing the framerate of a game that comes out next year, and even if there wasnt a delay, thats still 6 months

How are we trolls for noting that when games like HFW didn't have framepacing issues in gameplay demos six months prior to their launch?

And that was a 30 FPS showcase as well. Again, Series X I expect to be able to run something like Starfield in 60, or at least 30 FPS with smooth framepacing. Everyone should want that, TBH.

Quality over quantity will always be better. Myriad of half assed games to fill game pass.

I guess Scorn will be released incomplete, that looks like a tech demo, the gameplay looks boring, and there is no story trailer either and that should be the main feature of the game because the gameplay is not there.

So no Fable, Avowed, Perfect Dark, or Everwild.

I guess that confirms that they're are all a long way off.

Avowed was the last announced so I can cut it some slack.

Fable is Playground's first RPG They have probably learned it's much harder to build a world when the players aren't driving through it at racing speeds. It's all gonna depend on how much of the culture remains from their Horizons teams.

Perfect Dark and Everwild are the 2 games I have almost no faith in. Both studios seen to be embodying modern corporate Kumbaya culture that almost guarantees a complete lack of focused game design.

...controls, crafting, story, design. I went back to No Man Sky. Even knowing everything that they added just doesn't change the fact that I dont enjoy playing the game.
I tried it out a while ago and it’s simply not for me. Starfield might be, but I get cautious now because a lot of the gameplay elements looks like NMS and Elder Scrolls, both are games I don’t enjoy very much.

Persona was a great surprise. Hollow Knight is great. Kojima tease was unexpected and exciting for the project that he’ll be working on.

But Starfield was... yeesh.

No?

It's a common medieval asthetic. It looks great imo, why would you want to watercolor it?

Nah, these are medieval painting aesthetics. Maybe I should've said oil or egg tempura instead of watercolor, but you can see what I was meaning here.

The only thing that game has in line with this are the odd proportions. Color palette, texture, level of detail etc. are all off compared to these paintings.

a lot of 2023. there were some highlight with some of the indie games, persona announcement, High on life, starfield needs another year, no hellblade 2, no avowed, no fable, no Perfect Dark,

I mean what has Microsoft put out 2022? Riot games?
yeah I'm wondering that as well, so now that we've had the showcase, what does Xbox Game Studios have releasing in 2022?

after the Redfall & Starfield delays people kept saying just wait for the showcase, Xbox definitely has stuff for 2022 but it only seemed to be DLC? and I think As Dusk Falls is a 1st party published game?

Just finished watching. Starfield looks like it's gonna be janky as fuck, but you can't hate on Todd's ambition. I'm excited for it.

They got me good when they flashed the Team Ninja logo, I thought we were getting a new Ninja Gaiden. Shame on me I guess.

P3/4/5 ports is cool. Hoping P5R comes to Steam too.

That Benedict Fox game looked potentially interesting, if a bit janky.

Everything else was a huge disappointment or ranked right below "meh".

Redfall is my disappointment of the show. Looks fucking AWFUL and I was at one point excited about it.

Not necessarily... Theoretically they could all come out in July 2023. Very unlikely but just because they weren't there doesn't mean you can assume anything since this show was just the next 12 months until MicrosoftE3 2023

all of Microsoft games have this nickelodeon play- dough silhouette look. Ugly greens, pinks, purples. It's like Microsoft purchased nickelodeon and toys r us at the same time. Bland textures, ugly color palette, stiff animation, kiddish look.

Lol I wouldn't go that far but some of the more impressive games were definitely the colorful ones. Stuff like Forza look impressive but it still can't touch GT7 when it comes to lighting as there's clearly a difference in art direction between the two teams and I feel PD's serves sim racing better than Turn 10's. I think Starfield could actually benefit from slightly more saturated earthly tones for the rocky barren areas, it seems a bit desaturated in some of those areas like some of those earlier PS3/360 games that went heavy of sepia and brown tones.

The whole showcase in dialogue form would be:

"look at all these games! please don't unsubscribe from Game Pass!"
"most of them are super generic"
"yeah but come on if you're paying your subs you get access to all of them!"
"yeah but hardly any of them even look good"
"hey come on now... there's always next year"

I thought it couldn't get any worse and then I literally burst out laughing (it's like 4AM here in Japan) when they showed Pantymate or whatever that medieval 2D shit was called.

Another analogy - imagine you ask an intern to put together a slide deck for a sales pitch and they come back with 100 slides.
You intend to condense it down to 10 slides but your intern says "oh shit sorry I already sent it to the client as-is".
"You sent that to the fucking client?!"

Grounded, As Dusk Falls, Pentiment are 2022
Plus there is another showcase on Tuesday you celebrated too soon
LMAO :messenger_tears_of_joy: Shit’s weak yo.

But believe, I’m not celebrating shit. I’ve got Game Pass stacked until 2024 and my Series S is my most played console.

Even having Goldeneye for 2022 with online would have elevated this show massively for me.

Looks like it’ll be the backlog for me for the remainder of the year.

So the extended show is supposed to have some new stuff and not just an expansion of today's show. So still a possibility to see some stuff that wasn't shown today like Goldeneye.

I think Goldeneye will be at Nintendo show

Be realistic, dude; if they didn't show off some of the bigger games this showcase why would they save them for a smaller extended showcase?

I'm just also realizing that there aren't any big exclusive releases for 2022 for Xbox outside of Scorn, which probably isn't a big deal for a lot of people (I'm still looking forward to playing it sometime, FWIW).

I am being realistic but i will wait until after the 2nd showcase before i make my final judgement

Understandable. Long as no one's suddenly expecting Avowed or Hellblade II to make an appearance then cool.

Seems indeed like it's just DLC expansions and some smaller games like the Rick & Morty game (which might be multiplat), Pertinent (not at all what I expected and not that impressive at least visually IMO), and Scorn (which I want to play but will be pretty niche).

Even Forza is early 2023 now and I'm thinking Starfield's going to get delayed to Fall 2023, if just to hopefully fix technical issues. Not even the framerate necessarily, the gameplay just looked kind of jerky so the framepacing & frame-time seem pretty off. That will be really bothersome for me especially if it's going to be stuck at 30 FPS.

Flashless at the Golden Globes
Video game crash 2.0 when?
Maybe in 6-8 years. 2029. There is so much trash being released and not being sold that it will eventually start to have an impact. Right now, their revenues are up and people are spending but people will stop eventually, and thats when it will hit.

Yeah that's the problem - I get they want games from every genre, but there's way too much filler.

The good ones are games like The Callisto Protocol, Warhammer Riptide, Stalker 2, and hopefully Atomic Heart.
Filler to us but not everyone. My kids and significant other loves playing these indie small games, kid games etc. We aren't the ONLY demo.

That new Team Ninja game may be interesting to me if it’s more like a Ninja Gaiden game or Nioh-like. If it’s just another Dynasty Warrior type thing though then I couldn’t care less.

Starfield about like what I expected so I’m at least looking forward to it but I’m not super hyped.
