Is there any other stereotype more absurd and worst than the Mexican stereotype in videogames?

Seriously, every other 4 characters I swear it's like they have the NEED to fit in the ABSOLUTE TYPICAL U.S.' MEXICAN STEREOTYPED GUY. So it's gonna be your brown skin mustached Sanchez and your blacky curly girl Rodriguez in there.

But the worst part is how every single one of them, no matter how 'samey' or different they might look, you know, ohhh you know for sureee, they'll be screaming around Spanish words every 3 or 4 English words in all of their lines.

Can't they just, you know, portray them like normal persons? Or if they have any characterization that makes them differentiable. couldn't it be other than them screaming bad Mexican words in between absolutely perfect spoken English lines?

So yeah, cabron, what do you think of this pendejos? Do you find any other puto stereotype to be worst than the MEXICO SENORES?

If there is, which one?

I think the only other group stereotyped like that in video games are probably Russians? Which games in particular are you referring to?

Games do tend to poryray a few stereotypes, although I can't think of any good examples of this particular stereotype off the top of my head. I think I haven't played many video games that feature people from Mexico.

I hate it to the point I'm basically skipping any media containing that shit unless I can bypass somehow.

I'm from Latinoamérica and it looks so cringe to me, like they want to be inclusive by only including Mexicans that speak dumb
Chicanos think thats what Mexicans are like. People from the US in general like to imagine South America as some big Mexico.

Lol this thread made me remember how in Max Payne 3 characters were screaming "hijo de puta" every 30 seconds :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Yeah it's really stupid how things can be stereotyped in games.

Like calling every asian Chinese or thinking most Africa is black, curiously enough I don't see those taking half English all the time.

I'd like devs to actually be inclusive and stop putting that shit on games I think an example of good inclusion was this Latino guy on Mass Effect 3, but I can't remember well

As a fellow Latino, maybe I'm just not playing the same games cause I don't see the pervasive problem you describe. Not saying it doesn't happen, I just don't have much of a reference point. That said, I think stereotyping in games is pretty rampant in general. Most of it is just comes off as kind of cringe to me. I'm less bothered by stereotypes being overutilized than I am by the lack of representation as a whole. Not too many Mexican (or people of color in general) protagonists in gaming. Though it's getting better, it'd be nice to see more.

It's kinda dumb, yeah. But I remember when we just liked seeing any mexican character on tv at all. We liked speedy gonzalez lol. Wait, I still like speedy gonzalez.

I think there's some term for this related to Dora The Explorer. How a character speaks English but peppers the language with foreign words or phrases to add color. A good recent example in animation is Luz from Owl House. It's lazy and you just know there's some blue haired Californian writing that shit while clapping xerself on the back for contributing to diverse representation for xir's LatinX allies. That's the most cursed sentence I ever wrote.
On the other hand it's a quick way of establishing that the guy is mehican and get the story moving.

For anyone looking for a Mexican main character, look no further than Garcia Hotspur from Shadows of the Damned. Not the greatest game in the world, and he definitely felt like a stereotype, but he was still pretty awesome.

It was funny when Raiden went to infiltrate a Mexican sewer dressed like a mariachi though

OP has been binge-playing RE4 with a side of God Hand. It's the only rational explanation.

I swear I'm not going to take the obvious bait... nope... not going to say anything about this at all e: as a European though I will say I was really confused why Walter White kept getting into trouble with the Spanish mafia. Seems implausible to me, but like they say "the world is getting smaller"

It was "filho da puta". Characters were brazilian, so they spoke portuguese, not spanish.

And you couldnt have picked a worse example. I'm brazilian, and the voice acting was spot on during the whole game.

To this day I repeat some lines with friends that became iconic to us

I have to make a Max Payne 3 thread someday

Trying to act cocky while not being able to differentiate Spanish people and their language with Mexican people and their own Latin American Spanish.

Spotted the Murrican

I’ve been called Mexican before and I’m from Spain. What I hated the most was when someone asked me if I spoke Mexican.

Then I told him that no I don’t speak Mexican I speak Spanish. Then he asked me if they were two different languages.

I mean seriously some people.

Farcry 6 and Cyberpunk 2077 are two examples that come to my mind... It's insufferable to me at least. If one is in another country specially growing there, that person is gonna use the language according to the context, unless that person lack any possible sense of ambient reading

Well the RE4 language from Spain is accurate.
It actually is, and for once it makes sense lol

Imagine posting this without being able to differentiate between the traditional Spanish spoken by actual people from Spain, and the Mexican Spanish spoken by RE4 villagers.

Spotted the pendejo.

Redfall trailer had this shit. Only thing worse than a protagonist constantly spouting off unfunny one-liners is a protagonist spouting off “white people trying to write Latinx” one-liners.

You're telling me?
Every time my country is depicted in American media, it's about how narcos, war criminals, and dictators are all hiding here and how corrupt everything is.
Wait... no, that's how the government really is.
Nevermind, they're actually on point. Carry on.

At least they usually nail the typical white male - complete badass, ladies man and capable of finishing a 1 vs 30 gun fight without breaking a sweat.

As a white male myself, I highly appreciate this accurate representation of my demographic.
When Dante from Devil May Cry eats a food item high in saturated fats I feel really actualised both as a human being, and as a Gamer. HAts off to the boys at Crapcom

Well, yes, I don't remember much about re4 but I was talking about the enemies spouting

about that, I'm no Spanish speaker but I remember many Spanish players reporting that the villagers use words and phrases that are uncommon in Spain and almost only used in American dialects

Yep, because every non-Spain Spanish speaker tends to say COGEDLO. And because every Spain citizen talks with the exact same Spanish accent. Specially those of a far isolated village.

Dude, just accept you said a stupid thing (now 2) and move on. (Before you say the third one)

Absolutely, Russians and Germans could absolutely be the second and third most stupidly stereotyped kind of characters. But these tend to only be in belical type of games.
