Netflix announces live action Gears of War movie

Your';re talking about Cobra Kai specifically here which was made before Netflix got a hold of it. It was a youtube original or something like that I believe. That's not the case for the witcher, cowboy bebop, resident evil etc. All are produced by Netflix.
Goes for any of their originals.
Here’s a quote from the creator of Glow and OrangeITNB, who states they have complete control on who they hire.

Netflix, in particular, has shown a willingness to bring on new, unfamiliar faces. “They didn’t interfere in our creative process, which is the most important thing and the best thing about Netflix,” says CD Jennifer Euston (“Orange Is the New Black,” “GLOW”). “It’s just a straight line from creator to Netflix; there’s nothing to block who we want. They trust the filmmaker, and that is crucial in making anything good.”

That's literally one person saying that. This all is meaningless anyway since part of being a producer is funding shows/movies which they do. If they were just a distributor they would simply host the movies on their service. So no. They don't just simply distribute. That is empirically wrong. They used to do that then they started producing their own content.

There’s another quote from the creators of Locke and Key on the same site as well if you don’t trust that person.

Back onto Cobra Kai, you know who is listed as a Producer? Will Smith. You know how much involvement he has with the show? None.

Cool. What do you know of what Will Smith does? You conveniently sidestepped the fact that funding is part of producing. So you are indeed wrong about them being just a distributor. It's okay to admit.

Sure, I can admit to that. (y)
Cool. I would need to research more if they have much hands-on as far as casting/ writing I admit. It's pointless anyway. Regardless of how much involvement they do or don't have, they put out 90 percent garbage on their service. You mentioned Glow and that was probably the last thing of quality they made. They canceled it of course.

I'll check it out. Glad it's a film and not a series. I was actually just thinking about going back and revisiting Gears 4 and 5 since I never played through them.

Terry crews as cole train
Lol nah more like Ronnie Coleman.

The problem here is that the characters we know well from Gears are huge with deep voices and there aren’t many actors looking and sounding like that. I don’t see how they can pull this off without some crazy movie magic, and in that case they could just go full animated and have the original voice actors.

Exactly my thoughts whenever the last of us HBO series comes up.
Why the sudden obsession with game to TV/Movie adaptions? This is what MS tried with the launch of XB1 and got rightfully shit on, now it seems like everyone wants to do it. What changed?

It's a Microsoft owned IP it's a big deal and it has potential no matter what the PS fanboys say. I mean what you expecting a B movie shoestring budget? Netflix have funded some very expensive movies, do some research you might learn something 🤔
I expect a B movie shoestring budget indeed, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what we'll be getting. We'll know more when they announce the cast, that will tell us enough.

I'm in. Be half decent and ill be over the moon. MS can throw some cash at it. Just be better than that resident evil shite.

Because the partnership will be netflix footing 100% of the bill. Lets not be intentionally obtuse, the point I'm making is obvious. In a content drought I would like to see more of a focus on games, not B rate television content.
Drop it you sound stupid

Oh God as a fan I’m terrified. I really don’t see who they can cast for this. It’ll be some side characters nobody care about.
Marcus is actually really easy. Bautista is not only perfect fit for that role, but he also wants to play him. For rest of cast I have no idea.

Well now that you say it I would be okay with just him and the locust tbh

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Please don't have The Rock in it.
I feel like Im the only one in the world actually enjoying his movies.

I don't get the hate towards that guy.

It's not a Sony production.

He is a Sony property at this point, so probably also a Sony exclusive
It will definitely be worse. Gears? Really? Of all the video games ip they can choose from they choose the most generic.
Tell me you haven't played Gears of war without telling me you haven't played Gears of war.

I've enjoyed a bunch of his movies and interviews etc. Solid dude.

I'd just want Gears and its characters to be out in front in place of a big name and expected performance.

Why on earth would you make a live action version of this, the production costs would be so high to do it right, especially the amount of CGI if they are not going to do practical effects.

They are doing an animated version and Netflix seems to have better luck with it's game adaptations in this area, stick to that.

I think it is really important who directs it. Don't think it needs an auteur, but a sturdy journeyman who's good at telling a story. Someone like Joe Johnston - his Captain America is still top3 Marvel movie.
