Netflix announces live action Gears of War movie

A few ripped as fuck dudes with massive guns/chainsaws killing big monsters.

Concept works as a game. As a film, it'll only work if they embrace the silliness of the game and turn it into a a cheesy, cringe feast B-movie.

Nobody needs a serious, artistic, thoughtful Gears film. Fans of the game just want to see things get shot/pulverised and lots of sex. Nothing more and nothing less.

Gaiff

SBI’s Resident Gaslighter
Michael Clarke Duncan would have been a perfect Augustus Cole. RIP.
I would go with Bob Sapp. Maybe Terry Crews because Cole was a trashball star and it`s the equivalent of American Football and Crews was drafted into the NFL.

Its netflix, man, we gonna get trans female and we will have to like it, massive gun will definitely come true ;D

Netflix publishes console games now?
Because the partnership will be netflix footing 100% of the bill. Lets not be intentionally obtuse, the point I'm making is obvious. In a content drought I would like to see more of a focus on games, not B rate television content.

Disagree. I think there's potential there for a solid action horror movie like Aliens. It's Netflix though so it will be pozzed trash.

do not tempt fate do not contrain Wonder Woman's thighs do not do not
I would take literally any other production company doing this other than Netflix.
Live Action Gears of War without a true blockbuster budget just isnt going to work.
200 million minimum.
I dont want X360 Corpsers.

I am looking forward to the animated show though.
I havent really been disappointed by the animated shows on Netflix yet.
I loved Castlevania, Netrunners, Arcane, DevilMan Crybaby, Love Death and Robots.

Microsoft is most likely going to get paid for this.
So you should be happy that they are getting more money to make games.
Licensing out an IP to a studio makes you more money than it costs.

Why not?
If it’s shit, it’s shit.
If it’s good , great.

Of course Bautista will be Marcus.
He loves the character, he has the physic for the character.

The one thing mandatory , it MUST be a gore fest.

Animated series?
Fuck yeah!
Can’t wait

Of course Netflix foots the bill.

Dont be Intentionally obtuse. Aside from the fact that there's not expected to be a content drought when this comes to Netflix, this deal has zero impact on games development at Microsoft.

How you could come to that conclusion is frankly baffling. What were you thinking?

Maybe it's just me but I really feel like a Invincible really showed how much animation untethered should be how you adapt stuff like this.

Animation in general works much better for most videogames, because you can do way more with the same budget and it all looks visually consistent.
Live action can work if it's something a bit more grounded, like TLOU or Red Dead Redemption. But the moment yo go with some crazy sci fi or fantasy setting with big setpiece moments, crazy locations, tons of creatures, big monsters, big battlefield, etc you need a monster budget to make it work, and most shows/movies don't have that. So you end up with stuff like the Halo show which was 95% people in rooms talking and like 2 cool action scenes in the whole season.

Hugely disagree. Fans of this serious do not want Gears turned into a serious action horror movie like Aliens.

For this to be successful it needs to only have locust, guns, sex, chainsaws and ultra violence. That's it. Doesn't need to have a decent story, dialogue or even compelling actors. To be honest, they could get Johnny Castle (yes, the porn star) to play Marcus Fenix and nobody would give a damn. In fact, Johnny Castle might actually be a good casting choice for Marcus!

Another license deal. Another instance of not having a familiar face attached to the brand. What could possibly go wrong?

Can’t be worse than their Resident Evil series…could it?
After reading the news I was looking forward to the movie and tv series. After reading this sentence and remembering RE and other recent Netflix and Disney+ adaptations now I'm scared and not looking forward at all.

Too expensive. Unless they really see this as a huge movie deal, which I doubt.
It's a Microsoft owned IP it's a big deal and it has potential no matter what the PS fanboys say. I mean what you expecting a B movie shoestring budget? Netflix have funded some very expensive movies, do some research you might learn something 🤔

"We hired people who hate Gears of War to work on this."

and

"We've updated Gears of War for a modern audience."
There isn't enough twerking to popular songs in the originals.

edit: I hope Todd Howard's Fallout TV series will be a hit so that Netflix gets a video game adaptation template to copy ad infinitum. There really aren't any writers that can adapt videogame plots in the first place.

"with the potential of more to follow". They arent even confident enough to assume they will do it.

Can't wait for Marcus to be black and the script writers saying "yeah, we hated the original games so we made our own thing"

Of all the companies, Netflix is not the one you want to do your stuff.

Only thing that carried Witcher was Henry, and him tossing the towel in because the writers hated the original script tells me this will fail with a 100 percent guaranteed chance.

Netflix gears series has already been posted.

Also is comments like this really needed?

Gears of War already has a diverse cast in Delta Squad, you have Cole Train as a great black character that fans love and Dom is mega popular in Mexico.

I am curious if Bautisa will finally get his wish to play Marcus. (Assuming they make a film/show focusing on Delta Squad)

I mean we don't actually know what goes on behind the scenes.
