Dead Space PS5 Looks Like a Remarkable Remake

First 18 minutes of footage showcased

Seems like a lot of positive Dead Space news has timely turned up.

The only thing that hasn't aged well about the original IIRC, is the gamepad controls of the PC version. It doesn't feel right.

If you are able to use a Dualshock 4, Dualsense or Switch Pro Controller on your PC you can download DS4Windows and then it emulate those controllers as an Xbox 360 controller (not important to the process but I don't know if theres a program that can do with an Xbox 360/One/S controller) and you can set a negative deadzone to counter the lag felt on both sticks, if you set LS and RS to "0.40" it will remove all the input lag and feel really responsive.

That's for a Dualsense, so maybe you'll want more (or less) on DS4 and Pro Controller because the deadzones are different. The game has really crappy handling of the mouse as well so this is the easiest fix and controller was probably the way the game was meant to be played imo.

I played through with 8K super sampling + transparency super sampling earlier this year and it was a near perfect image, plus locked 60fps on my GTX 1080, highly recommended absolutely superb looking. This new version looks graphically very good but I dislike so many changes I won't buy until its cheap as a curiosity. They really ruined the atmosphere in so many moments, Zach Hammond's new voice actor and face capture is rubbish compared to the old one.

This is also when people starting nitpicking about TCP, saying it looks bad etc, etc
It's why I ignored the reviews and bought the game anyway and I'm glad I did.

Other things I noted

- I hate the repeating pattern on the sky during the opening shot of them traveling in hyperspace. It's lazy and shows lack of attention to the small things

- also hated the electric "zaps" dancing around between the consoles when they were crashing as most were just repeated zig-zags

- when the 2 crew members were talking to Isaac through the video-com you can see that their animations didn't match up to what was being shown on the comm link

-after using stasis for the first time and getting hit by the slow-mo door the framerate tanks hard 2 times within 20 seconds

-the entire next minute is plagued with hitching, stuttering, and frame drops after the stasis door

I think I’ll just play the original again. If they’d just patch the backwards compatible versions on Xbox to have 60fps I’ll be set. If not I’ll deal with 30fps instead of spending $70 on a remake with various pointless changes to it that don’t add anything.

Funny that in a time where space travel is common they can’t even stream a video feed from 20 meters away without the image breaking up.

And of course it is breaking up with noise effects like its an 80s TV as well

The interiors are pretty detailed, nice graphical touchups, but I’d definitely go for Callisto over this.

Something is off to me about the voice acting and sound. Nicole also looks like she’s aged badly for some reason.

Had to quickly look at the original’s intro and so far I’d say the original is better.

The others I got on sale for a couple quid each on the Xbox 360 & Xbox one early when BC came out.

Would have preferred if Isaac didn't talk, but not really bothered.
I had to reinstall the game to make 100% sure the game didn't go "I'm gay btw" and yep.
Also we can't have you motivated to rescue your young wife, most we can do is an old one.

Was already over this game when I found out they replaced the original actors. After today's viewing, I won't even pick this game up on sale. Some absolutely stupid and unnecessary changes to story and characters for the sole purpose of ticking off a checklist. Nothing is sacred anymore. Thank fuck the original will always exist.

Hard disagree. Half-Life Series - one of the best shooters (for the times) featuring the most iconic character despite being a silent protag. Gordon Freeman was well beloved even though, or because, he never said a damn word. People can project themselves into a silent protag way better and thus it will probably appeal to a wider audience. Leave some room for imagination.

Thats something that impressed me when I replayed Dead Space days ago. That scene.

Their animations matches perfectly with the video. So I thought "maybe its real time?". But no, the video had different lighting conditions. But Visceral matched their animations anyway to look beliaveble.

Its little things like these that make the game a masterpiece. And I dont trust Motive to replicate them.

Two bad opinions back-to-back. OG Dead Space still looks great on PC. Just replayed a good chunk of it last year. At 4k and 60fps it holds up remarkably.

Hate to say it, but this looks like it's worth more of your time than CP. EVen if IT IS a remake of a game we've played before. Knowing what to expect is a double edged sword in this case.

That's because Dead Space is a legitimate horror classic.

I'm playing through Callisto now, about 5+ hours in.. I'm sorry but the dislike is somewhat justified, its very cookie cutter, bad design choices, combat is cheap and it's a shimmy and crawl fest, that's basically all you do lol

Callisto graphics are beautiful but everything else is cheap.

I realize nobody gives a shit about story and atmosphere and just wants to gun down monsters in space. And I'm sure Callisto Protocol does that very well.

But what made Dead Space a memorable classic for me was the Ishimura, Nicole and the creepy cult. Finding out what happened to your ex was quite emotional.
