Is the charge up sword with flame attack suppose to be used mid combo? Am I the only one who swings at nothing to start to charge it up then go in? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

HDR is still 10bit RGB, and HDR movies use limited range too. They are separated things.

In my experience, which is a lot because I have a freaking ocd with this, limited vs full is mostly a matter of taste, but I would say that TVs do better on limited, and some tech people over avs forum say that too.

The thing is, broken hdr implementations aside, if HDR looks washed out, is because it's outputting HDR on limited range, just change it on your tv and check it out.
No no the washed out thing was with hdr off.

Also recency bias. It's coming out just before GOTY season with only Spider-Man 2 to curb its hype.

This is a good point too.

I have played Zelda Tears of the Kingdom to completion it is an amazing game. All the way through and addresses almost every issue I had with BotW. Music just hits better, combat feels better and what story is there is good. We have dungeons, competent voice acting and a physics engine that shames the rest of the industry. I am also older and have played every Zelda game ever. The last Zelda game was a masterpiece and this continues that and in my opinion is better than BotW. It is one of the top 3 Zelda games ever up there with Link to the past and breath of the wild.

Final Fantasy has been going through a bit of a late life crisis. VII is good but criminally overrated where as VIII is criminally underrated. IX is an amazing game but gets lost in the shuffle due to VII's popularity and VIII's cult like following. X broke away from the feel of VII and VIII and is probably the last great single player Final Fantasy. XI and XIV are arguably the best in the entire series with XI being the true successor to V and XIV being the greatest redemption story in gaming ever, until now. CBUIII dropped a demo that has quite literally blown me away. I have multiple playthroughs with multiple hours to the point where I had to force myself to stop playing the Eikonic battle and get back to Manon labbing in SF6. For me a person that has played every single Final Fantasy game ever, this is almost a life long dream come true. Like what if Final Fantasy Tactics, the greatest FF ever was remade with today's tech but as an action rpg? That is how this feels. Outside of the combat being a dream, the story is good and very impactful, the graphics look very next gen to me and the music is the best I have heard this year and it isn't close at all. The whole thing could fall off a cliff but if the game keeps this same level of quality throughout it will be my game of the year and will be hard for even Tears of the Kingdom to beat it. It is also resonating with most of the female gamers that I know and a lot of female streamers which is a good sign and is generally a space reserved for Nintendo.

My only gripe is the performance in FFXVI, I do know we are playing on build 1.01 and they are on at least version 1.03. If that is cleaned up then it is going to be hard to beat a complete and polished game with no cutout slices to make DLC, no MTX cash shop, Comes day 1 with NG+, two different hard modes, and a Palace of the dead equivalent. This could be a return to form to when you had to own a main number FF.

Starfield, looks good, is on my most anticipated list, I'm in day 1. I haven't seen enough of it to make me believe that it is a game of the year contender. Everything they have shown has looked very good but I don't know much about the story and they have shown a lot of huge empty spaces. If there is a lot to do besides mining rocks, minerals and picking up sandwiches it could be a contender. They haven't shown me why I should think it is just yet. Everything they have shown is in No mans sky but Starfield looks a lot better. I really need to get a grasp of the story, none of the music they have revealed has done anything for me. The second you hear Fallout 4's intro music you know you are in for something special. I am super excited about the ship building and combat but learned that you cannot pilot your ship from point to point on the planets, it is a cut scene. I don't understand that as NMS allows this right now. That is a huge immersion breaker for me in an open world space game. I can even do that in scam citizen.

Spider Man 2 is in the same boat as starfield. Haven't seen enough to even consider it a goty contender.

Please don't sleep on other games that are already legit contenders.

Age of Wonders 4 has almost no presence on this forum and is absolutely a GOTY contender.

Baldurs Gate III is amazing even the beta deserves consideration.

Street fighter 6 is the best they have done since third strike, CVS 2 and the Alpha games.

RE4 could get considerations as well not sure how they treat remakes when it comes to awards.

Hogwarts legacy was a damn good game and sold gangbusters.

This has been an amazing year to be a gamer. Sorry wall of text.

Also great points. This year is looking like one of the best within the last 5 years.

Maybe everyone knows this already but I thought I may have only noticed since I am a big DMC fan.

The game basically has maxACT from DMC built-in and you don’t need to unlock it.

After any sword attack press the magic button when the sword strike is hitting and you will do a quick magic melee. This does not stop your sword combo. So basically after any attack there is a timing to get some extra magic damage. This is the best way to stagger enemies when you are high on health and being aggressive.

I was planning to buy it, I played the demo yesterday and it is beautiful, the music is phenomenal the lip sync is awesome, and the acting is solid. I just preordered the CE and SquareEnix is shipping it to my country which is great. This one is gonna be so fucking sweet. And i am pleased there are no Nomura designs.

I'm holding out strong. I know I'm buying the moment it releases but I don't want to break my rule of thumb. Not even Dragon's Dogma will break that (maybe).

About the lipsync. Square uses an in-house AI program that they run through to achieve both the lipsync and facial animations that matches the dialogue. You can change languages on the fly and it will do a good interpretation of what is being said.

Here, have a look:

I finished the demo yesterday afternoon. I'm resisting a new playthrough because I'll just start from the beginning with the full game anyway and I need to finish Zelda.

It's a weird decision to equip all the easy mode rings on you automatically on the second mode of the demo. I immediately unequipped them and found the difficulty perfectly tuned to my skill level. I never died, but at multiple points I beat an encounter with no potions or items left.

Also this soundtrack is Soken's Final Form.

Yeah, but this was actually straight up lip-synced in English. Maehiro wrote the script, Koji Fox translated it and then it was motion captured. Japanese actually came later. That it went so smooth is one of the perks of doing the localization inhouse . (Which actually was a huge issue with FFXV where multiple languages had unique lines due to miscommunications.)

(Though, not everyone has someone like Koji Fox with 20 years experience of working together)

I had no clue you could do most of that shit in combat. I didn't realize Ravage was Torgal's launch attack either. This game has insane combat depth, especially for an RPG. Going to use the Eikonic challange as a training mode while waiting for the full game to release.

I have a theory and maybe others have already talked about it or maybe revealed already, but:

I'm thinking Joshua is not really dead. Don't know how the Eikon spirit passing through hosts works, but it may be possible that Joshua is reborn, from the Phoenix ashes.

I get that they were trying to get us connected to Joshua, so the prologue ending would have the appropriate impact, but it could be bait.

Honestly the first 15 minutes of this game alone is better than the entirety of FFXV.

I still can’t believe that FFXV even happened.

You could tell that the devs of this game were really displeased with how XV was handled and what it ended up being, because it’s basically the polar opposite of it in every regard.

The catalyst of the story was removed from the actual game, and we started off the story with a prince pushing a car to a gas station in the most generic desert setting. Because I guess his dad, the king, thought it would be funny to not put in the proper amount of gas? Then we get to do a couple of hours of fetch quests. Then we find out that our home (that’s like 3 miles away btw) was annihilated via a newspaper. Then we go on a fetch quest for royal Arms (but collecting all of them isn’t mandatory for some reason) and then also Astrals. And then the villain somehow knows that Noctis is getting visions of Titan and we follow him in his car. We have the most embarrassing “set piece” boss fight I’ve ever seen. The enemy steals your car. You then refuse to use a temporary car and then somehow gain intel on the whereabouts of your car and then retrieve it from the army base it’s held at. Then avenging Jared. Then preparing the boat or something. Then Gladio being like “sorry Noctis I have to leave brb” and Noctis saying “oh ok.” Then that weird 2 minute mission where Noctis and Gladio are in hazmat suits. Then the Cup Noodle quest. Then embarrassing “set piece” boss fight #2. Then a party member saying “I am now blind” and Noctis being like “that sucks, won’t ask you how that happened though.” Then it’s a train ride to the end, with a few stops to remind you for the millionth time that the game had tons of cut content.

All for the most dull open world (minus a couple of admittedly cool optional dungeons).

I also reinstalled the game a couple of weeks ago just to get a feel for it again (since it never sits well with me to dislike a Final Fantasy game), and the combat is just as hilariously awful as I remember it being. Traversal is as stiff as I remember it being (minus the chocobos).

To me, FFXV is the one and only disgrace to the franchise. And hopefully it remains the only one.

EDIT: side note, as a sailor mouth IRL, I highly approve of this game’s constant use of the word “fuck.”

On my TV thus is passable in graphics mode, not anywhere nears as jarring as horizon forbidden west was. Will probably play through twice, normal in gfx mode and hard in 60fps when the full game comes out

Some of that is cut content, some of that is Tabata.

I mean he pulled the same thing nearly everyone of his games. Type-0, 3rd Birthday, FFXV, they all had it. I'm sorry, that doesn't happen by coincidence. For some reason *Random important shit happening, not involving your main charachter/party* is part of his idea of good storytelling.

I don't want to derail a XVI thread with XV talk too much, but I feel this entirely. It's frustrating, because there ARE glimmers and components of a really good game and story here, but a combination of too many cooks in the kitchen, upgrading a console gen, that shit engine that even they don't know how to use, and making Nomura go to rehab after his seventh speech in the office about making Versus XIII a musical trilogy or what the fuck ever.

It's essentially like they took all the guts out of Nomura's original idea, discarded some of them, kept some of them, and added some new ones, but they forgot what order they went back in, so you have the game starting AFTER the beginning of the story, the entire main character motivation being transplanted into a...fucking newspaper? The weird timeskip at the ass end, the final dungeon being DLC released like two years later out of the blue, entire character arcs and segments relegated to DLC episodes, etc. And the worst/best example for last - this is, to date, the only game I can ever recall being so narratively disjointed that there are CANON scenes that are only in trailers. Trailers. The Omen thing, kid-Noctis interacting with his dad.

I really, really feel like the original plan was to include all the character DLC and the invasion of Insomnia into the game. Kingsglaive and Brotherhood would probably still be a thing, but they'd actually make sense, as a side story of some other event occurring in a place that the main character is. Typical Gaiden shit. I really feel like the vision for the title was too ambitious. Given what we've seen of XVI, I really feel like XV was conceived two gens too early and released one too early. XV with everything incorporated and put in proper order with a combat system that isn't "hold circle and up on the left stick for 200 hours," and modern tech would probably trump the shit out of what we got. Also a dev team that isn't chain smoking cigarettes and playing pachinko machines all day or whatever the fuck made the cycle take ten years. That'd help.

Because FF games are anthology similar to movies like Memories and Animatrix.

It's a great way to roll out a game series, I think. I mean, if every IP did it, it would be a touch much, but...I'm sure there are tons, but FF is basically the only anthology series I've seen/played. Always up for recommendations though.

This is the 2nd game this generation I've pre-ordered after Ragnarok. The demo drove it all the way home for me and I can't wait to continue!

Dragon Quest is both an Anthology series and a series with an ongoing plot - depending on the games. DQ 1-3 is set in one world, DQ 4-6 is set in another, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 are all stand alone IIRC. Though it could also be argued that 11 is part of DQ1-3.

I really hope the demo didn't ruin the game for us lol.
Week between now and then... the hype overloads. What if there is nothing better in the full game?!
We expected something but now we expect A LOT from he full game.

Gonna tune down the hype (yeah, like if that was possible)

Oh yeah! I've always had that franchise on my periphery but never tried it. Might be time to change that.
