The funniest thing about IGN score is that it literally says GOOD in big white font on a big red background, but some smooth brains will still interpret 7 as bad.
Modern review scoring is confusing. I don't think scoring 50 is even average.

i dont think MS aimed for a mid 80 score, for sure Phill ll not be pleased, after Redfall i think MS was expecting this to be at least 90+
Is 87 really mid 80? I’d consider that high 80 but we’re probably splitting hairs. You’re definitely framing it like that deliberately though.

Who decided that? Oblivion and Fallout 3 are widely considered classics. It's 4/5 great, not 2.
I think Morrowind is still their best game ever, personally.....it's been slowly declining since. But they still make great games, I think the Fallout series in particular needs a jolt (4 and 76 were generally meh or bad), it's been declining more than the other IP's

A lot of people are in this thread, it's sad. People are acting like the game is dead or a failure, lmao. I'm sure the game is, and will be, more than fine.

The scores are great. But the game was overhyped. At least based on critical reception. There was an expectation among many, and it was fairly clear, that this game would review at least as well as Skyrim did. It's plain to see that it won't. In a year that has seen Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3, along with a number of other high-scoring games, Starfield landing in the score range that it appears to be is jarring when compared to the hype that was being built around it. Doesn't mean the game is a failure in general. It's just the critical reception not matching.

Wild to me that some people think the outcome is "disappointing", lol.

Reviews in themselves are subjective. Some of you let numbers affect WAY too much. It sucks knowing that a game could've been something a person really enjoyed but a review number is what turned them away.

These days looking at Opencritic or Metacritic shows if a game is a critical failure or not, and that's pretty helpful for some, I get that. But other than that I feel like a lot of reviews are just opinionated hogwash, check it out yourself, lol. Or at least fly close to those that tend to share the same opinion as you.

I'm still shocked people even pay so much attention to IGN or Gamespot, they've both been notorious for absurd and almost click-bait-y opinions. I mean, IGN gave Alien Isolation a 5.9, lmao.
Out of majority of people here. You are the most sensible one because you make a lot of sense about IGN/Gamespot. People really have no clue how the media works. At the end of the day it's all. About traffic = money. You will always have a well known website or 2 that will purposely go the opposite direction and against the grain to cause a big wave of clicks to please their investors/shareholders.

Anyone who thinks Any of the big named websites actually give a shit aboit your money and where to spend them is a fool. If you want something genuine you go to YouTube channels that are legit, or indie websites without the big executive suit breathing down your neck.

Sounds like some reviewers just have fatigue with this style of Bethesda game. At the very least, it sounds like this is more polished and less buggy than their previous games.

IGN review confirmed that there are no maps

No maps, man

What the hell

I'll be playing it, but my hype deflated quite a bit

I didnt even bother finishing F4. Hopefuly it will be much better than that.

F3 is one of my favorite games, Skyrim was also pretty good
People were shitting on that Davy guy but in the end he was absolutely right in most of the stuff he said.

Yes, I know own IGN/Gamespot didn't give them a 5. The 5 I was referring to was from another website. However, the 7 from IGN is still a tad low. I could understand an 8, but nothing below from big name website like that. Something is just weird and fishy.

And yes, I will play it tonight.

These are the scores IGN gave these Bethesda RPGs:

Oblivion - 9.3
Skyrim - 9.5
Fallout 4 - 9.5

Stop with the fanboy nonsense, just because a game you like doesn't get a high score does not mean there is some agenda, grow-up

This is gonna be an absolute shitshow. Not the game, the number not being quite as high as people expected. Looking forward to giving it a go on Wednesday, 'til then...

I dunno man, I can understand some of the problems given the scope of the game, but all that jank, shitty AI, bland progression, mediocre visuals at times don't make this an instant classic. I can understand the 7.
Will still try it out on Gamepass to see if it clicks.

EDIT: And what the fuck is about the amount of loading screens??

Wait til ppl start posting other games that had a similar or lower score that are considered great....and it causes brains to lock up because it doesn't fit the narrative.

This narrative that a western space RPG has to outscore a JRPG is a new one for me.

More baseless conspiracy theories. No evidence cited.

Why have been fanboys never been able to understand that reviewers are human beings and human beings disagree?
This is the dumbest thing of all IMO. When the fanboys try to explain why only some reviews should really count and the others should be disqualified.

The best is when they meticulously pore through the lowest reviews looking for some line they can take out of context and say “I stopped reading right there” or something. Lol

Sounds very mediocre judging by that review. There is no score for this one.

Not surprised at the line “Bethesda's latest open-world adventure falls victim to its own hype”

As soon as MS bought Bethesda fanboys decided Starfield was the second coming of Jesus Christ.

It's just fanboy warring at this point, Anything less than an 8 is treating like high school grading, 70 basically meaning a C-. Which is a dumb interpretation.

A few of the space game people I follow and some other reviewers say the space combat is very Arcady and more akin to something like star fox than like Elite Dangerous or wing commander. Another said there is so much fast travel that the ship feels a bit like extra fluff. People who are waiting on a new freelancer are going to be disappointed. Better pray SC actually finishes one day.
