Windows Central: Microsoft exploring bringing back catalog to Nintendo and PlayStation

I hope they do a physical release if it comes to PS5. I wanted a physical release last year when they shadow dropped it on Gamepass, but they never bothered to do it.
I think they make more money from digital, but yeah physical is always better imo.

So it turns out it's actually HFR on PS5 and not Switch? Maybe?

He literally told a day ago that it would go to Switch

I said it recently, some folks like to talk about revenue....well here you go.

In other words....money talks.

On a related note, Its just wild how the talk went from CoD being exclusive...to this. I remember some of us saying when the acquisition was announce CoD being exclusive would be risky, a bad move.

.....some ppl still think it's possible, part of some next gen strategy by MS to sell Xbox consoles starting in 2027, 2028....

Its been a wild 2 years.
No one but PS fans freaking out ever thought CoD was going exclusive. It was announced from minute one as staying multiplatform.

They way they continue to drag this out. May aswell just get out of the hardware biz.

Xbox gamers may aswell build steam boxes or get a nice all in one like a Corsair one or ASUS or something, for gamepass ( you can even play Sony games on their too these days) and buy a Nintendo for the other stuff.

What MS should do is assist that by making all BC games and our entire libraries migrateable to PC. We can already use all our Xbox’s. They will lose their Xbox audience but I don’t think they are all that bothered. They are playing a different game now.

I have said in the past that subs are the future. Maybe Xbox is what is stopping them buying the whole gaming biz ( which is what they would like to do anyway) as a third party publisher they will face less backlash in achieving this from the likes of the CMA…. Because Xbox won’t be a thing. Gamepass will be though.

In the end… they get what they want. They always do.
Sony fans will be upset…because those games will be locked to a service that is not on PlayStation . And even Xbox fans will be upset…because they no longer have a console to shout about… but they will get over it. Just as sega fans did before them. Just as Atari fans did ever so long ago. The industry will continue to evolve and change .. the rest of us won’t care because we will have custom consoles made from PC parts that play everything. Whether by way of subs, emulation or whatever the hell else. Welcome to the future 🤷🏾‍♂️

I guess the PC master race thing really is a thing after all. I think even Nintendo will … get with the times… eventually. Only seems shocking right now, but when it happen it happens. Times change.

It seems they wanted it on the Switch as well but it couldn't run the (imo necessary for the type of game it is) 60fps target so they scraped that build. Probably will launch on Switch 2 day 1, that will make it sell gangbusters

Not to mention people are looking to get rid of subscription services. Not add them.

if Xbox had added a significant number of subscribers they would have announced it to the moon.
Yes, almost all subscription services (including Game Pass) have stagnated. Phil Spencer also confirmed in the court that Game Pass has not grown since they announced 25 million subscribers 2 years ago in January 2022.

They have waited for Christmas to pass and liquidate all possible stock at a low price so that this "becoming a third party" and releasing games on Nintendo and PS comes to light, it was very clear that something changed at MS since Nadella himself removed the GP of your bonus target.

It makes no sense to release Hifi rush only on Switch, it is clear that it will be released on both (Switch and PS5) and on top of that if it is released on PS5 pro it will be the best version, compatible with dualsense and in physical version it would be too much.

It's crazy to me how no one see's how big of a deal that is. It was almost a full year and your sub hasn't grown at all? That would be worrying to any sub service.

No doubt you thought it was the end of PS when Wipeout was announced for the Satrun and N64 *rollseyes*

Of course they have, you really think game hardware and software prices would have been the same with no xbox one or series x?
Lol one of the companies sells or did sell at least their console for a $200 loss.

And they are the ones stopping the other company from charging more?

Also wasn't ps4 $100 cheaper than xbox one lol

Sony know the market, and price according regardless of the 'competition' from Microsoft.

I didn't ask if it was the same as gamepass. I asked does the platform give you instant access to hundreds of games regardless of when you subscribed

If your answer to that is genuinley a no then you really are daft

It's a pointed question that igores the entire content of the thread, who cares if the answer is yes or no. Both Onlive and Gaikai predated Sony, so what's your point there? None of the 3 of them were similar to gamepass, which offered local download in mass first, and why it started to become more popular. Even if you are "right" your entire point is moot in terms of the context of this thread.

Imagine us having a debate on fast food hamburger sales. You directly ask if Mcdonalds created hamburgers. I say no. Then you run around declaring them irrelevent to hamburgers sales. It's nonsense.

Your lost if your really believe sony would be selling any hardware at a loss if xbox wasn't around. Of course there is a "max" hardware price consumers will pay, but we were not there. You really think ps5 would have been $499 during the pandemic and hardware shortages? Hell no.

Apparently even that doesn’t bring anything to the table..

If you really think about it Microsoft has absolutely no idea how to run a profitable business.. that company has been in a gutter for so long it’s truly astonishing that they are still a thing.

They have a lot of ip's now. The only problem how do they manage now? unlike before.

Really? Reading through this thread I got the impression it was already a done deal. MS has already closed the Xbox hardware division, and all their teams are busy working on porting all of their games to PS5.

Xbox may go 3rd party someday but porting a game, likely Hi-Fi Rush to Nintendo, is NOT proof they are going 3rd party. It's more like wishful thinking by Sony fanboys than actual proof and continuously repeating it as if it's a fact is not going to make it happen.
3rd party is certainly a possiblity, even a strong one if you will (Sea of Thieves PS5/SW rumors just dropped, it's not even a slow trickle of news about this shift, it's a whole torrent of news). But I think MS could change its mind at any moment.

The thing about MS being as gargantuan as it is, you gotta keep in mind that all it takes to start or delete a division is just an email from a higher-up like Satya, so it can be very unpredictable to outsiders like us, hell, even people who have reasonable access like Jez are getting blindsided!

Most MS first party games i dont care about.

But if any old Gears games go on PS or Nintendo, try them out if you never played them. Pure meathead shooter, but the key thing is the slip sliding cover system which you'll be hiding behind tons of 90 degree concrete blocks. It's inane, but a blood splattering good time. Being good at grenade tossing is tough even when it shows an arc. They dont go far like COD where you can throw a football field away. Game gets repetitive so dont burn yourself out playing Gears 1. So if the backlog includes many Gears games, just start with Gears 3. Dont worry about the story. It's space marines vs. aliens where you kill everything that moves.

Is there a reason not to do that?
For the two fronts in the discussion, it seems tough to come to terms with reason.

One side wants Xbox to keep all of the IP exclusive and see this as mutiny from the greater cause, and the other side wants to make the idea of Microsoft publishing on other platforms to mean that they are not making consoles anymore. Theyre both at the same point on the circle and not seeing the larger picture which is not about Xbox or PlayStation, but how to publish their IP on as many platforms and devices as possible.
