Perhaps not entirely in the theme of most songs in here so far since it's still NES music, but I really like this remix of the Moon Theme from Ducktales.

Edit: That dude has some great NES remixes in general as well so be sure to give them a listen. Like this Mega Man 2 remix using the VRC7 mapper that has extra sound channels.

Edit again: Damn this was also pretty cool. By another guy, an NES remix of a T&C Surf Design tune. That's what I like about remixes like this, they sound better than the original but are still on the same hardware :)

I know a guy who knows a guy who is working on a massive project: a Xenogears "rap opera." The game's music is of course being remixed into tracks, and every major scene in the game will be covered and fully voiced by professional voice actors, with rap battles replacing actual important battles from the game. Some scenes will be straight up voice acting, some will be in verse. I'm pretty impressed by what I've heard so far, though it is of course a work in progress.

There's a lot of talent going into this. The guy behind the project, RuneWalsh, has collaborated with the 8-Bit Boys (including nerdcore rapper ytcracker) on an album, among tons of other collaborations. I don't know when the project will be finished, but it's going to be good, especially if you're a fan of the game.

Some samples:

-Crimson Blood- (Old Demo)

-Seeker of Power- (Old Demo)

-The Tournament- (Old Version)

Demo Beats -Invasion-

Demo Beats -Ancient Dance-

Someone in the Skyrim thread recently pointed out a particularly impressive cover of Skyrim's The Dragonborn Comes.

I thought this one was pretty impressive, too: Morrowind/Skyrim Theme Piano Violin Medley with Lara.

The ladies are mighty attractive to boot!

EDIT: Ugh, two of my favorite Castlevania covers are not on YouTube. Check out Rize's covers of Soul of Axe Armor (Aria of Sorrow) and Awake (Circle of the Moon).

Not the whole album, but there are some remixes I ADORE on Daytona USA B-Univ:

Just look at that Goddamn cover.

Anything by zohar002 on Youtube. His sudden and mysterious disappearance is one of the Internet's greatest tragedies.

I wonder if he has any connection to Tom Zohar? Same name, both accounts do amazing piano versions of video game music... Although tzohar started uploading videos around the time zohar002 stopped, there's a few months overlap. Coincidence?
I know they're different people :(

Anyway, some of his music:
Super Mario Galaxy - Good Egg Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy - Gusty Garden Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy - Buoy Base Galaxy
The Legend of Zelda - Main Theme

For some reason, I just love piano covers of game music :D

LOL, way to get my hopes up! It's just odd to me how someone can upload incredible pieces that garner hundreds of thousands of views and then just vanish. Rumors suggest he's in prison, but he recently logged into his YouTube page. You'd think he's say something to all the people clamoring for his return.

Mega Man 2 - Dr. Wily Stage

There's so much more but that's off the top of my head.

Hey, I made that one. Nice.

Edit:
Monkeys Disarm Their Kremlings (Donkey Kong Country 2 - Crocodile Cacophony)
---Death metal? Okay then. I don't usually listen to death metal, but I really liked this track. Fun lyrics, ends up making the original sound better with the genre change, plus the small bonus part at the end makes great use of the recorder to round out the track.

And this one!

From the MGS HD thread

After finishing the game, I played MGS4 as well and then got so heart broken that I finally decided to pour it all on a videogame remix:

'Innocent Deception':

Hope you guys enjoy it! Those incredible vocals are provided by Claire Yaxley.

I was never a huge fan of the original song, but this remix is the one of the greatest videogame remixes and just one of the greatest pieces of music ever written.

Xenogears - The Wind Calls to Shevat in the Blue Sky - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiAMekAOMwE

Watch until at least 1:20, the song builds up to that point. Trust me. Then orgasm when the music hits that soaring stride at 2:20
