After reading "The Argonian Account" in-game book series, I have to say I really really hope that Bethesda will choose to feature the Black Marsh in the next game or expansion.

It sounds like such an alien and hostile environment far more so than even Morrowind (perhaps even more than the Oblivion realm too). It really was described by the books' author as that same kind of a "hell" that Quaritch was talking about in Avatar where "every living thing that crawls, flies or squats in the mud wants to kill you and eat your eyes for jujubes" (though it seemed from the author's writing that everything really wanted to kill you just for the lulz), from the aptly named "Fleshflies", "Hackwings" ("giant birds with long, saw-like beaks nearly the size of the rest of their bodies") that sound like they'd give cliff-racers a run for their mommy, to "Nagas" (8 foot tall puff-adders with limbs who get very "peevish"), not to mention an environment and landscape that seems to always be constantly changing (hence no developed roads and losing your sense of direction) with black rivers that swallow up bridges and landscapes at certain times of day.

The "Marsh" part of the name also seems to be a bit of a misnomer, as the description of the area seemed to be more of a very dark extremely dense forest, which would be a welcome change of scenery from the brighter forests of Cyrodil in Oblivion. Not to mention it seems that a vast chunk of the land is very much unexplored. It'd be great to play an explorer of sorts where you'd be sort of the first person in those regions.

If you're interested in Black Marsh, the first book of the two expanded universe novels takes place partly in the province, more specifically in Lilmoth. Really great look at it.

Seconded. Mere-Glim was easily the best character from the two books. The amount of time spent in describing Blackmarsh and their post-Empire activities is definitely an invaluable contribution to the series. I haven't heard it described in-game, actually, but obviously my knowledge isn't 100%.

That said, I doubt we'll ever get to see Blackmarsh, at least not the Black Marsh of the Argonians. Flesh-eating flies, debilitating plagues that kill all races but natives, etc. Rough shit.

Woah! The Paralysis and Absorb Stamina enchants that I put on my sword depletes it after about 25 hits.

What's another good combo that lasts a bit longer? I'm talking double or more the amount of swings.

The larger the soul gem used, the longer the charge. Or more accurately, the larger the soul.

I only use filled grand soul gems for enchantments. My bows would last 150-200 shots per charge.
Question: does anybody where I can obtain the saphire claw so I can investigate the barrow near Ivarstead?

Talk to the inn keeper. I just - literally 10 minutes ago - finished clearing that barrow.

damn it, I hate pressing the wrong button at my house's storage and pressed take all by accident, since it's the same fucking button as store!

I've never understood this. The Fallout games were like this too. It makes no sense.

"Press square to store things from your inventory. While in the chest's inventory, press X to take items. Oh, and if you think you were supposed to press the same button as before, we're going to fill up your entire inventory with everything you've chosen to store in the chest. Happy gaming!"

I went to Markaroth and I got wrapped in a quest
the conspiracy quest. It was pretty awesome, though I'm not sure I understood the conspiracy.
The Silver-Bloods were holding the King of the Forsworn hostage, so that he could command his Forsworn minions to attack enemies of the Silver-Bloods, strengthening their position in Markarth.

Thanks! As I said, it was an awesome quest. I'm on my way back to Solitude now to deal with
Potema
(I think that's her name).

There should be a quest to investigate the barrow you can get from the innkeeper (unless I'm thinking of the wrong barrow).

Yeah that's the one, but I couldn't finish it bc I don't have the saphire claw you need to get through the final door. I'll head back to the innkeeper at my next playsession and let you know how I go.

You can finish the investigation section by
grabbing the journal in the room where you would have killed the guy in there, take the journal to the innkeeper and he'll reward you with the claw
then you can continue into the barrow.

My level 9 character spent half an hour in the boss chamber running circles away from dudes while I charged back up. Master difficulty definitely alters mah play style. Leveled all kinds of skills before it was over, though.

Really learning to use the traps in dungeons to take down enemies this time around. Fun stuff.

NumberTwo

Paper or plastic?
I've put this off for as long as I could, but now I'm running out of things to do. I guess I'll begrudgingly pick a side in this civil war.

Imperials it is!

You're already at a level 9? I'm barely a level 12. :(

I'm level 5 and I played for maybe two or three hours today. :lol

Me and Ghal are just more used to the leveling system, I think.

Wulf salutes you. From his throne made of dragon bones.

I seem to be leveling faster this time around; I wonder if you go faster in Master difficulty. Since enemies have 2x the health of the default difficulty, I get more experience for each enemy since they take more blows/magic to kill. I have only done:

  • Opening dungeon
  • Bleak Falls Barrow
  • Embershed Mine
  • First dragon battle
  • One pack of bandits for a bounty
  • The cave pass near Whiterun
  • The barrow outside of Ivarstead

Otherwise, I am sticking to roads following the main paths, since wildlife such as bears and spiders kill me in 2-3 hits.

However, I am using a wider array of skills, compared to my last character: block, one-handed, Illusion, alchemy, smithing and Destruction. And that might also be behind it.

I hear it sort of peters out at higher levels, as damage doesn't scale to skill level. But I've never tried pure-mage before, so I wouldn't know personally. Maybe enchant a few things to make destruction spells free to even the playing field.
The only school that "peters out" is Destruction really, and that isn't that big of a deal since with the right enchants you can spam AOE spells that stagger the opponents for zero mana cost. It just takes a little longer to beat the high-level enemies with just Destruction. Like I said, though, that's just Destruction. 100 Alteration is fun, 100 Illusion makes your enemies into your playthings, and 100 Conjuration is downright broken. Dunno about 100 Restoration, I went pure mage so I still only have 100 health so restoration isn't terribly useful to me besides the Wards.

All the complaints about the lack of decent loot are much the same as they were in Oblivion.

I think you get what you take from it - I'm still happy when I look in a barrel and find salt piles or honeycomb rather than cabbages.

On another note, I just found
Bard's Leap Summit
after sneak attacking my way up through all the Forsworn mofos. The dragon shout behind it with
the two Hagravens
looked really creepy as you approach them!

Where can I find some vampires? Felt like last play through there were heaps now that I wanna find one I can't.

I was just wanna make my Thief a vampire as well.

Just got it yesterday because I went home sick from work, but I can't tell if I'm leveling right. What level should I be at for the 7000 stairs?

You don't have to be very high-level, as the game tends to give you that mission pretty early on. I think trolls spawn on that mountain regardless of your level, though, so some good ol' fashioned explorin' to level up to around level 15/20 might be a good idea.

I could be wrong, though. I'm tired. Damn school keepin' me up with stupid excercises. :lol

Thanks.

I made another sword with 3s paralysis instead of 5 because it seemed a bit excessive and used The Black Star to enchant it. Now it doesn't discharge!

Seems kind of broken.

Hah, just found an unmarked ruin in the plains I had found in my first 3 hours of playing, with some weird puzzle that I had forgot about. There's a chest below the grate, but I can't figure how to get to it. It might be bugged because the solution is fairly obvious...

Just came across this by chance and remembered it from your post!

Went to kill the Giant at the nearby camp, when an Ancient Dragon came swooping down, the Giants and Mammoths helped distract the dragon while I snipered from afar, then I went chasing Lunar Moths and Torchbugs and found this place. ^_^

Edit: not that exciting after all! Thought it might lead somewhere.

Holy hell, I had no idea there was
a hidden dragon
in Blackreach. Apparently if you
fus ro dah the orb hanging in the center above the Dwemer ruins, this guy is awakened from his slumber
. Fucking awesome.

Has the PS3 version been fixed yet? I ask because I have an unopened copy sitting in front of me.
Not fixed. But I say go ahead, play it and enjoy it. For me, the stuttering and framerate hell doesn't set in until about 4+ hours of play, and that is only after your save file gets to be about 12MB in size, which is only after, what 75-100 hours of play or something?

When the framerate gets bad, just save and quit - and if 4+ hours isn't enough, you can turn off/on the PS3 again, and the game will give you another 4+ hours till the framerate turns to mush again. By the time the problems set in, I'm usually burnt out any way, I don't need to play any game longer than 4 hours at a time!

Had a random dragon attack while I was in Solitude clearing up some quests, was awesome, it landed on a building and was flaming everyone to death. By the end there were so many guards around firing at it and attacking. When it finally landed in the middle of Solitude it ATE a guard.

Thank you for the tips. I've been dying to play this. I've always experienced tech problems with Bethesda games, so it's expected--I guess people/media made such a big deal out of the PS3 version, so I was concerned.

Dragons are a piece of cake with the Impact perk from the Destruction tree.

After all the epic fights and towns people I had to reload 10 times to save it feels good to stun lock those bastards to death.

Questions about "elder knowledge" quest line/bugs in the spoilers below. Basically main quest line that isn't about the civil war.

After finding out I need to get the elder scroll I talk to Arngeir and the librarian at wintehold. Neither checks off the quest. Also I can't complete the earlier librarian quest because it's bugged since I picked up the books before getting the quest. So frustrated, any ideas/help?

Ugh, destruction is pretty underwhelming. Currently at 96 with all the lightning perks, but only the weakest enemies are dying with the level 75 spells, which take way too much magicka to cast for the damage they do. I hope the level 100 spells are better.

You have to stand in place for a few seconds for the master spells to work, so they have limited use (unless you can take the punishment).

So I traveled to Morthal today and helped
take out Alva, the vampire. I saved just before we're going to storm Movarth's cave or whatever.

I'm surprised I didn't get those two names confused.

So, when dragons pop up early in the game, an I supposed to fight or run? I was just heading up the 7000 stairs and a dragon showed up and I booked. An I supposed to kill it? An I even strong enough to? I'm like level 11.
