Slam Dunk 53: So much drama for a little sprain. At least Captain Tsubasa had the right idea and gave heart cancer to one of the players.

Slam Dunk 54: Sakuragi can't shine for even one episode without Rukawa upstaging him.

Slam Dunk 55: All of that was only two quarters?!
Well I wasn't trying to say these elements are inherently bad just that, the way Un-Go used them was bad. Largely because, well, Un-Go had lots of problems. I don't really understand how they arrived at the decisions they arrived at when creating the show.
"Producer A: So what can we do to sell this cartoon to the sheep?

Producer B: Robot lolis, ojousama, big oppai, and scenes with girls wearing nothing but underwear!

Producer A: Brilliant!"

I like this even more than the last episode. Stylish, atmospheric direction that lampoons detective drama tropes in a hilarious fashion. It even manages to make the twins not annoying.

It's not even remotely hinted upon in the anime, but the Twins (well, Mamis) story in the iM@S2 game is hilarious. Like, it's probably my favourite of the storylines just because it's so unashamedly goofy.

It's the
WHOEVER GETS A BOYFRIEND FIRST WINS story, right?

Yes,
but that's really just the set-up to it. It's the execution of some of the scenes that really sells it, with it's odd non-sequitors and inaccurate English usage. It genuinely made me laugh on numerous occasions
.

That's it, huh? Well, okay.

Uhhhhh, hmm.

I guess, tomorrow is another day.

Overall, this was really good. Loved the characters, the pacing, the look, and the music. Loved everything, but man, there's no two ways to say it. What a fucked up story.

I hope Madhouse goes back to making wholesome, quality entertainment like Highschool of the Dead, Needless, and Strawberry Panic.

Don't forget their partner Studio Gokumi, involved in such fine animation as A-Channel, Koe de Oshigoto, and the soon-to-be classic Saki Achiga-hen.

So basicaly:

Madhouse never died. You meanie heads.
It totally looked like the Gonzo route . They did the marvel animes. Then went work on the Chinene animated film. The next step will be doing blatant moe cash-ins they lose even that. And then their equivalent of Last Exile Fam.

edit: Just watched it. Looks like they are still on the Gonzo route .
Oh well I actually liked HSotD. Guess something similar to Nana is out of the question.

I think that's for society to judge. By the standards of anime, which are of course fairly ridiculous, it's pretty tame. I mean, just this season we have Fate/Zero and everything involving
Caster going around murdering children just because
is much more 'fucked up'.

I suppose the difference is that Fate/Zero feels extremely divorced from reality, where as Koi Kaze is much more grounded, sometimes disturbingly so.

That's a ringing endorsement if I've ever seen one.
Well, considering how ridiculous the shows premise is, it's pretty solid praise. I feel like they're constantly walking on a knife-edge, it wouldn't take much for the whole thing to fall in on itself. It's kind of miracle that it works.
It's a musical.

I wouldn't mind seeing it compressed into a musical, I'm sure it could be done.

Last Exile Fam is the best thing Gonzo has made since 2006. You take that back.

Even though romance isn't the only or even dominant aspect of Chihayafuru, it wins by default, since I can't think of any other show worth watching this year with romance as a major part. Of course, I haven't seen Wandering Son yet (I'm getting to it, I promise!).

I must admit, I prefer it when the romance itself isn't the main focus of the show, but only because most of the 'romance focused' titles seem to be stuck in the 'never going to develop the relationship' mode. The titles that are more interesting and ambitious, like Paradise Kiss, appear to be few and far in between.

"3rd Season," the final volume of the Carnival Phantasm anime project, is including the 12-minute special anime "Fate/Prototype" this week. The anime is a digest version of the novel that author Kinoko Nasu wrote in high school as the original draft of Fate/stay night.

However, the cast is different in Fate/Prototype than in Fate/stay night, and the Master characters are female:

Kana Hanazawa as Ayaka Sajō, Saber's Master
Takahiro Sakurai as a male version of Saber, pictured right
Yūichi Nakamura as Archer
Kazuya Nakai as Lancer
Chiwa Saito as Misaya Reirōkan, Lancer's Master
Megumi Ogata as Rider's Master
Mamoru Miyano as Rider
Takehito Koyasu as Sankureido Faan
Aki Toyosaki as Aika Sajō
Hiroki Touchi as Sajō's father

Guy wrote it in high school, what could possibly go wrong.

Am I the only one who thinks this is gonna be shit?

Not at all, we just have a tendency here to skewer towards the sarcastic. This is one of those things that doesn't necessarily come across unless you spend a lot of time perusing the thread.

As long as this shite funds more Black Lagoon. :|

I must admit I'm not particularly au fait with the Black Lagoon manga but I believe there isn't that much more material sitting around to be animated. Someone will no doubt jump in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Dead

well not really...yet
Hey, stuff written in High School can still sometimes come out great!

Look at the Fifth Element by Besson!

Sure, if that makes it easier for you to read the thread good sir.

Yeah, I figured after taking a retake at the reactions.

By the way, i've been watching more of my backlog.

Gosick 1-7

Not a bad show by any means, but the solutions to the mysteries are a bit weak IMO. I'm going to keep it on hold as I sort of lost interest

Katanagatari 1 & 2

This show is some quality stuff. Art style and dialogue is just nomnomnom

[Getter Robo Armageddon 2]

I know that I've already posted my impressions regarding this (and later episodes) but I wanted to take a second to bask in the glory of this shows visual composition. Imagawa, better than most, understands the nature of Super-Robot titles and he fully incorporates the 'larger than life' aspects of the genre into every element of the show. In particular, his visuals hearken back to the age of pulpy sci-fi posters and illustrations, the stuff that's considered iconic today. As such, you'll notice a fair amount of 'dramatic poses' coupled with a tangible sense of scale. Take a look at this shots to see what I'm talking about:

GetterRoboArma24.jpg

The use of strong colours and heavy use of shadows for dramatic effect is another element that he employs quite liberally:

GetterRoboArma21.jpg

A more complicated technique is the use of 'match on action', where by the action a character is doing in one shot is mirrored by the same kind of action in the shot that immediately follows. For example, we cut from one character raising his leg to up in the air to his robot lifting his leg up in the air. Not only is such a transition more interesting than a straight cut, it also reinforces the idea that the robot is nothing but a very large represenation of the person piloting it, rather than being some machine that's wholly divorced from them:

GetterRoboArma23.jpg

Exaggerated expressions, emotions and character traits really help sell thoroughly over the the top scenes which would come of as weird if the show didn't wholly support them. The story might be silly, but it's played straight and it's made to feel grand, this isn't a tongue in cheek show:

From the article:

Vava Reason 2. negotiations broke down with Kyoto Animation. Because Kyoto Animation esteems itself in the creation of very high quality works, they are sworn only to animate one project at a time. But at that particular time their line-up was already booked out by Pony Canyon and Kadokawa.

“Kyoto Animation’s insistence on their one-project-at-a-time philosophy is a hurdle for us, what can we do to overcome this limitation in the future…”

Explains the amazing production values. I wasn't aware of this policy before.
