Nintendo 3DS Crosses 4 Million Mark; two million sellers (US)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I somehow feel Nintendo's holding off to make new announcements until next E3.

...Buuuuut we should already reached the famous "XX" mark that means "We are glad to announce the remix of the 7th chapter of a very famous JRPG series, just for fun and because we're awesome and laughing."

Nintendo might be, but that doesn't mean 3rd parties won't show stuff. Plus it seems everyone likes to slide a title into GDC these days as well as do a PRE E3 day to show off stuff ahead of time.

YTD until November 3DS 2.46

Considering it crossed the 4 millions mark, it did 1.54 millions at least.

LTD until November WII: 37.75

So, at least 1.25 millions.

So basically, Wii continues it's trend of being down a lot YoY.

360 should pick up a million or something this month, and be ~5.7 behind in that case. Add Wii U and a inevitable $149 360 sometime in 012 and yeah, it's going to snowball. Sometime in 2013 360 should pass Wii in USA.

That's pretty amazing. MS is going to crush - kill - destroy next generation.

The way I see it for SS:
- Fans like me and other gamers (those who (re)-buy a Wii for Zelda) just got it at launch => launch record sales. Remember too this "record" is just on the first 2 or 3 days of sales; If we try to compare to OoT between the first 4 weeks, no doubt SS can bag its record and go cry.
- The Wii in 2012 will not allow many legs to SS. All the newcomers will go for Mario Kart, people who buy a 99$ system for the family. The situation for SS is very different from the other previous Zeldas: The Wind Waker got legs but it was the Gamecube second year; Twilight Princess had a Wii version offering a bridge to piracy; Majora's Mask situation is more comparable. But there was maybe 3 or 4 less N64 systems in 2000 and the two games matchs their sales.

I like SS, I don't want to crush this news without any reason, but will all seriousness, I think it's a commercial semi-failure, to say the least.
But I will be the first to be happy if I am wrong and if SS get some serious legs this year!
In the end is about personal expectations of some of the "fans" more than the game been a "semi-failure".

Majora's Mask and Wind Waker did 3-4 million copies worldwide; yet many don't consider those number a "failure" because" the Nintendo 64 and GameCube were dead". Skyward has already done half that, and mostly in one region; and is a semi-failure.

It seems many were used to seeing Mario Kart and New Super Mario selling like crazy (on DS and Wii) and expected Zelda to do the same; even when the Zelda games on the DS (with an over 100 million userbase) did around the same numbers (3-4 million).

With a strong lineup of software on the horizon, including new installments in the Mario Party™, Pokémon™ and Kid Icarus™ franchises, as well as third-party games such as Resident Evil® Revelations from Capcom and METAL GEAR SOLID® 3D Snake Eater from Konami for Nintendo 3DS, that momentum should continue into the first quarter of 2012 and beyond.

Sealth announcement of Pokemon and Mario Party for 3DS? The paragraph specifically mentions the 3DS and not the Wii.

Seems weird that they'd announce a Mario Party for 3DS before 9 is out, but I guess the two wouldn't really compete with each other saleswise. Pokémon doesn't have anything known on the horizon except the Nobunga's Ambition crossover which would be playable on 3DS... so maybe there's hope for that over here!

That "for Nintendo 3DS" is referring to MGS3 and RE:R, I'd say; note the comma placement. Mario Party 9 is coming, and, at a guess, the Pokemon instalment is referring to PokePark 2.

Poorly worded, mind.

First you're telling me the 3DS will have a better first year than the the DS or Wii, then you tell me the Xbox 360 will pass the Wii in the U.S. this year? Sales-age is confusing.

It's crazy how quickly Nintendo turned things around. Hopefully the momentum continues forward into 2012. I'm still holding out on a lot of confirmation of 3DS Japanese titles like Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Fantasy Life, Time Travelers and more.

Though looking into 2012, 3DS software is going to be eating away at my wallet.

It's really confusingly written, but going by the paragraph before that sentence, it seems that they're talking about their lineup on all their platforms, not just 3DS. So yeah, those probably are the Wii games.

Those are good numbers. Would be great if the 3DS can keep high sales up after the holidays like Wii and DS did.

I'm still shocked the Wii sells at the rate it does. Its been getting almost no support for a very long time now.

Congrats to Ninty for this, well deserved, and about time. I was really pullin for 3DS to do well since I bought one at launch!

He mentioned new installments in Pokémon :3

Unless he just means PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond... -_-

I seriously hope Nintendo brings over Pokémon + Nobunaga's Ambition, I am hyped for it!

Couple that with a massive first- and third party lineup in the first part of the year and the prospects for 2012 are extremely promising.”

Did I miss something or are we in Japan or something

You could have said this the past two years. It always feels like Nintendo is holding off. Look at the last two years of the Wii lineup, end of DS lineup, and start of 3DS lineup.

That was exactly my point.

In the recent years Nintendo has been pretty secretive about their future announcements, not letting any leaks out until they really wanted to undisclose them, so I think they're building up the hype for next E3 show that is going to bring many big surprises for both 3DS and WiiU.

Something like a long teaser, with all first and third parties games, then at the end of the footage they say: "You can try those games right now at the floorshow".

Downside is there's still 5 months to go, and they'll probably let no leaks until then.

Maybe in the US, but not worldwide. 360 has to sell another 35 million worldwide to catch up to the Wii, assuming nobody ever buys another Wii. I don't think that's going to happen. Hell, they're going to end this generation in 3rd place behind the PS3.

Yup, the 360 is weak in continental Europe and was DOA in Japan.
