Mewtwo: I wish we could ban all Poke-facts from this thread.

As someone who was already in college when Pokemon first got big, I often wish for an "ignore feature" that prevents anything related to Pokemon from even being visible in this otherwise-full-of-awesomeness thread.

(Yeah, I guess I'm a hater. Sorry, Poke-fans.)

Tch, you're missing out.

I say Pokemon, without specific title because I have done my best to totally ignore anything Pokemon since it's first iteration. Simply because I thought it was for kids. That's what it looked like, people talked about it like that, and kids seems to like Pokemon, so. And I never even bothered reading a review. I mean it was for kids, right? Why would I care?

So believe me when I say that I was a bit sceptical booting up Pokemon SoulSilver, my first Pokemon ever, yesterday.

5 hours later, batteries completely run out, I'm sitting there grinning from ear to ear like a kid on Christmas Eve...

What the...?
This is actually good?!
I mean... What?! I can't believe this! It's frickin awesome! I love it!
And I've missed out on it for like what, 10 years?! Just because I thought it was just for kids!

See their legs?

my mind was blown, not sure if this is common knowledge or not

Uhh, you got an official source for that? Because I'm pretty sure their feet/legs look that way because the puppets originally used for the illustrations needed the metal feet to stand up and be posable. As soon as Nintendo stopped using the puppets, the characters had normal looking legs.

im suprised you guys didnt know the star fox team are amputees. maybe youre young. anyway i wish nintendo would go back to the awesome snes starfox team. seems like every new game they make them crappier instead.

I'm 32 and I never noticed that shit. I HAD that issue, too.

Needs to be added to the Top 5 mind blowers of the thread. :p

Something I think is known but it may blow a few minds.

In Pokemon Blue & Red, there's an hotel in Celadon City. It contains a invisible computer that works exactly like Pokemon Centers' computers.

You can see it here.

poke-fans hate stupid facts like that, too. they're usually posted by people who only really loved the original games/anime.

Exactly. Enough with the Gen 1 facts! We get it, you're a total hipster who was reminded that you liked Pokemon as a kid but forgot about it until now.

This one's cool, though. :p

Hopefully this hate and "it's not cool to post Pokemon stuff, STOP IT" attitude doesn't stop actual good stuff from entering this thread (like the whole Mew -> Ditto connection from awhile back).

Hmm, what does not knowing that have to do with being young, and how young are you talking about? Personally I reckon it has more to do with whether you have that in depth knowledge of pilots and gravity and stuffs (which I didn't until I read this thread).

I remember looking at the cover and thinking initially that they were people in costumes, and then I spotted how thin the ankles were and realised they must be puppets because a human ankle couldn't fit there. Never thought much past that though, but it seems to make sense.

Interesting that the later games didn't continue it on though... Maybe they have interchangeable legs? :p

Almost all of us are into the games think the "mindblowing" PKMN posts are among the worst things posted in this thread.

Except that one post about Cut. Amazing. And the last one on this page is okay I guess.

Made me think of Shawshank Redemption, personally.

"I mean, how often do you actually look at a person's shoes?"

Then there's the famous Capcom Cow, but i don't remember the meaning of that. Maybe from gunsmoke, not sure.
The Barrel comes from sonson or higemaru. Or maybe that's two names for the same game.
Regarding the Capcom cow, it's a secret bonus item that appeared in games like Strider (1989) but -as I know, but can't confirm- debuted in Side Arms (1986).

The barrels are from Pirate Ship Higemaru (September, 1984), one of the first Capcom games: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Ship_Higemaru

SonSon was released a bit before (July, 1984) and is a separated game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SonSon

There is a SonSon cameo in Marvel vs Capcom 2 http://marvelvscapcom.wikia.com/wiki/SonSon

It's easy to make any toy standable and posable using simple wire. It's actually harder to make them stand when you give them tiny intricate robot ankles that pivot and function. And if the robot legs were just a functionality cheat, they'd have tried to disguise them somehow, like wrapping them with fabric or pipe cleaners or something like that. And they didn't run out of time when making the models and leave them unfinished, because all the pilots have them.

Robot legs were definitely a design decision (which Nintendo may or may not have backed away from by making their characters wear full pants and boots), and it's entirely conceivable that the model artist made that decision based on the disturbing idea that amputated robot legs would make them better pilots.

Has this been mentioned? (It's not that big but still):

Link does not have a sword/shield strap in the Wind Waker

How does he do that?

Neither does Young Link's model in Ocarina of Time, though he does in the artwork. And he has one in Majora's Mask.

You're right. They did add it to Link's models in OoT 3D though.
That's a pretty weird design choice but I guess they just want to keep his model as simple as they can get it..... or maybe it is just magic velcro.

Oxymoron. All velcro is magic

@StarFox metal legs

I don't buy that 'metal legs to make them better pilots' story at all. Pretty sure that's made up, there is no source for it.

I remember reading that the metal legs were used because they ran out of materials for the lower parts of the puppets' bodies.

Yea, I was about to suggest the artwork was made to reflect the puppets, and the pupets had metal legs because that's what they decided to do.
