Singleplayer should be some kind of Metroidvania:

- Every character has a unique start point
- Not every character can get anywhere
- When you defeat another character, you can choose him - and this one can reach different areas
- You can gain stickers to become stronger
- And so on..

Problem is: there will be a buttload of characters.

I want to believe!

Looks like I am making the Krystal Defense Force get huffy.
Is that what you're calling me now? I don't even really care TBH ... I just see her as a reasonable choice because Sakurai seems to really like SF. Why else would the series have 3 characters regardless of the pass few games? Clearly that doesn't matter to him or something because I really don't get how that series gets more characters than Metroid.

Main reason I bring up Krystal is the same reason I bring up Isa & Kachi or Saki & Airan. Well you seem content with just picking one of the male stars I think that making a Mario and Luigi like 2-star roster pick for 2 fullly playable characters from the game makes prefect sense.
Also, you don't even know how Palutena and Medusa will fight with their staffs, so for you to make an assumption that they won't utilize them in the way that its utilized in SFA, is pretty reaching to say the least. I am eagerly waiting for the OVAs, especially considering that half of them center around Palutena and Medusa.
Lets take a look at this and think about what we know of this characters.
Design wise she has a staff with a decorative top and a floating blue ball on the tip (mage staff).
She also has a dress and a small shield along with large angelic wings made out of light.
She also gives Pitt the power of flight with magic ... she also saves Pit with the power of magic.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that she can fly and that she uses magic.

The only reason I don't expect more than 12 characters is because there are no interesting characters left to add. We're scratching the bottom of the barrel at this point.
Wat?

Maturity, bitches.
I want a bigger single player, like play through a bunch old classic Nintendo levels. First 3 levels of super Mario bros redone, or donkey kong country.

Oddly single player is one my favorite things from the smash bros series. The multiplayer is already pretty great, not sure how they could improve that.

Oh and I want a better custom stage builder.

I just hope we don't have to play through the same modes with every character to unlock something. If they have to keep Classic mode they should make it a bit shorter or add some variety to the matches.

Here's a roster I made for Smash 4:

Probably a bit too many characters, I know. But I think this is a pretty reasonable roster if there were to be 60 characters (or 64 if you count Sheik, Zero Suit Samus, and Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon).

Originally I had less characters than this (50/54), but I added an extra row so the characters lined up with their franchises better, lol.

Karate Man
Slime
Mega Man
Zoroark
Starfy
Takamaru
Andy
Ridley
K. Rool
Little Mac
Chibi-Robo
Black Shadow
Isaac

Animal Crosser
Mii
Lack of Tingle

I really think you all should prepare for the possibility of there being less than the standard 13 or so newcomers. Brawl already got pretty much all of the obvious characters anyway, and based on the Iwata Asks from last E3 it sounds like the emphasis this time is going to be more on mixing things up, customization, and cross-platform play. There will be a at least a few more, sure, and maybe there will be more 3rd party characters, but basically I wouldn't grow too attached to any roster until we've seen more of the direction the game is headed in.

There are plenty of characters to add that would fit in well. Karate Man - the mascot of a successful new Nintendo franchise; Little Mac; Isaac; Starfy; Saki Amamiya; Tingle; K. Rool; and numerous others.

- Bowser
- Bowser Jr. (new)
- Captain Falcon
- Diddy Kong
- Donkey Kong
- Falco
- Ganondorf
- Hector (new)
- Ice Climbers
- Ike
- Issac (new)
- Jigglypuff
- King Dedede
- Kirby

- Simon Belmont (new)
- Slime (new)
- Snake
- Sonic
- Takamaru (new)
- Wario
- Wolf
- Yoshi
- Zelda
- Zero Suit Samus
- Zoroark (new)

I would use images but they're missing a few (mainly Hector). Also I think I was scraping the bottom of the barrel for a few of these (Slime) but oh well.

Problem there is that you'll have three outfits that are green with white sleeves. Classic Toon Link at least had some brown and yellow to differentiate him from his standard colours. When it comes to the homebrew scene (which is so hit and miss it is unbelievable) this is one of my favourite custom colour schemes.

yIbfhm.jpg

Well I mean with out sacrificing colors of course. The WiiU is apparently using non Blu-Ray Blu-Ray I hear. Wario also had something similar to this.

I just see her as a reasonable choice because Sakurai seems to really like SF. Why else would the series have 3 characters regardless of the pass few games? Clearly that doesn't matter to him or something because I really don't get how that series gets more characters than Metroid.

Both Falco and Wolf were added toward the end of development for their respective games, with even Wolf being the last (or second-to-last) character added to Brawl (which is amazing considering that he was only four moves away from being a completely unique character, while Toon Link who was added earlier is perhaps the most cloney of Brawl's clones).

Also, I think Sakurai at least knows now that Star Fox has more than enough characters, especially considering that most Smash fans echo that sentiment, and also due to how all of the popular characters from the Star Fox games people care about (Star Fox 1 and 64) are now already playable. There is also the matter of how the only new Star Fox release since Brawl was a remake of 64, of which since Smash Bros. games tend to derive their content from the most recent installment, means that many of the characters that debuted after 64 may not even make a trophy appearance.. I highly also doubt that Star Fox will be given the same amount of characters as Zelda.

As to why it has more characters than Metroid, keep in mind Metroid is a series that only has two notable re-occurring characters, Samus and Ridley. After Ridley is added, I doubt another Metroid character will ever be added in Smash Bros. Metroid as a series simply is character scarce.

Hell no, Wolf's Star Fox Assault design is one of the few positive aspects of the game.

Also furries existed before Krystal :p

Turning Star Fox into a furry space opera is certainly her fault. Love drama in Star Fox is a no go for many people. The character is horrible. She is pretty much the Shadow (or maybe Rouge the Bat) of the Star Fox series.

The Kat/Falco flirtation was part of Star Fox 64.

Also, the Nintendo Power comics (and early versions of Star Fox 2) had Fara Phoenix.

So no, Krystal wasn't the start of romantic plot in the Star Fox series. She's an incredibly mishandled character with a lot of cringe-worthy plot who has also become a beacon for furries due to Nintendo's inexplicable desire to sexualize her in the Assault promo renders, yes - but she is a symptom of where Star Fox writing was heading anyway, and not the disease.

I hope Shulk is in. He has potential to be a pretty annoying character, and he has more than enough moves. He should probably be a stance character, having a Monado Activated stance and his normal stance. The Monado abilities would be lifted pretty much from Xenoblade of course.

His Final Smash should be visions. As in you activate it silently and it records 8 seconds of inputs from the other characters, then rewinds the game and plays those inputs again, letting Shulk act freely. Even if it means that Shulk had been KO'd and "GAME!" had been called. That was just Shulk seeing a bad future, now here's what's really going to happen.

I get the impression that Wolf was added solely due to the gameplay popularity of the Star Fox cast in Smash Melee. Unlike most other newcomers in Brawl, Sakurai didn't even try to follow any kind of StarFox source material for Wolf's moveset (even though Assault had ground based gameplay with weapons and items that could have been referenced for his attacks), so I don't think he was added for actual Star Fox fans, but fans of the Smash versions of Fox and Falco.

Shulk would be broken since Sunday Driver has huge hitbox and they made Torpedo strong.

Yes I know who Shulk is

It wasn't too hard for Wolf's design to improve considering he looked more like Star Rat in his SF64 headshot.

It's essentially an alteration of his Assault uniform. If anything it seems Sakurai wanted to make him the stereotypical gay space cowboy.

Does anybody else want Fox to have the voice actor from Melee rather than the one from Brawl? His voice was so much cooler in Melee.

I like the idea of Tingle representing Balloon Fighter as well.

Also we should have Waluigi and Daisy as one character, Daisy piggybacking Waluigi.

I think what this game should incorperate would be the changing of characters art styles/movesets with costumes, we kind of saw a little bit of it with the daisy outfit for peach, wario colors for mario (melee) and purple luigi outfit (waluigi-esque).

^ that was probably confusing...for example: I personally dont like zeldas SS design, and prefer her design in TP 100%. As a zelda main, I would hate to end up playing as someone I couldnt stand to look at...I think it would just be nice to maintain classic looks of classic characters etc. and add some interesting moveswaps like (melee) link vs (brawl) zelda or vice versa.

If Sakurai decided to do something like this...I feel like he would be joining two worlds together, one being the melee fanbase and the other would be brawl. Of course the mechanics of melee are totally different, but at least they would be able to have their old movesets back etc. OR give the melee movesets melee air dodge...

I would die if they made a SSB Crossover Melee X Brawl

よろしく!

Speaking of voices, I want Ganondorf's OOT/Melee voice back.
Although his voice in Brawl wasn't bad at all, I just prefer the voice used in OOT.

Both voices are pretty good but I prefer Brawl/TP Ganondorf, one of his death screams is among my favorite grunts in the game.
Though with OoT 3D being the latest Zelda with Ganondorf in they may go back to that one for the next Smash.

Star Fox shouldn't be allowed any more characters until another good Star Fox game is made. Miyamoto wants to make it, I just hope 64 3DS sold enough for them to go through with it.

I can see Tingle and Balloon Fighter being added as quasi-clones.

A Team Rocket/etc. Trainer would be pretty awesome, and Mewtwo has to come back. And while I'm on the subject of Pokemon, bring this back:

SaffronCity.png

I'm only realistically expecting updated models to match each character's most current game (may not be the case for Kirby), 1 new character from each franchise, plus 2-3 actual newcomers.

All these lists with characters I've never heard of make my head spin.

EDIT: YES, SILPH. CO NEEDS TO RETURN.

Care enough to make your own character roster, so I can know what you are thinking in your mind. I know it might make you cry just like your avatar implied.

honestly, I am excited that you are going to change different avatar because it's getting on my nerves. I hate John Cena and he is the reason why I quit WWE long time ago but I already losing my interests in WWE after Attitude era ended.

Can we please just have Ganondorf have an actual sword-based moveset? PLEASE? Such wasted potential for two games now...

I'd probably bring back some of the cut characters and pimp them out as being new. Barring that, I would go with my previous suggestion of bringing back the previous versions of characters from Melee/64, and I'd make sure to keep that seriously under-wraps. I'd try and balance them so that they keep the same "flavor" they had in their respective games, but also adjusting to whatever new rules that the new game will have (example: 64 characters not being able to dodge in mid-air, Melee characters not being able to move after an air-dodge, etc).

As for brand-new characters to add...hell if I know. Maybe Ryu, but with his Puzzle Fighter look (although having his normal look would be fine since Snake didn't have to be altered). Can't really think of any other characters to add from Nintendo IPs that aren't already fully represented. The Pokemon reps are bloated as it is, as is Mario.

And I hate this fucking avatar too. March can't come soon enough.

The problem isn't to do with space, it is to do with making each avatar on screen distinguishable. Three green Links on temple would not be ideal.

I think the inevitable Gen V Pokémon will either be Victini or Zoroark. I'm hoping for Victini, because I find Zoroark pretty generic.

But my dream choice would be Genesect.

He looked like a dog in Melee, then somehow turned into some kind of chipmunk-like creature in Brawl.

Never really liked his Melee voice, but I didn't like Falco or Mewtwo's either.

MISHON-COMPREET

and that avatar is fucking brutal... I miss Agumon.

I'm hoping all the N64 stages make a return too.

No reason Brawl's stage select screen can't have a page like this. That's real, by the way. Brawl hackers got the job done.

Oh, and Wario-style alternate costumes are a must. For every character. Preferably, more than one for certain characters (Mario and Link have alternate costumes for days).

Victini will inevitably be the Gen V super-rare Pokeball one. Zoroark has a body type similar to Lucario and Mewtwo so it seems likely that they'd include it. Illusion has the potential to make some interesting moves too.

My main hope for this game is they ditch all the floaty and slow gameplay mechanics Brawl brought to the table. Although I have a strong feeling Sakurai will stick to something similar to Brawl with the next game.

Masahiro Sakurai said:
"There are three Smash Bros. games out now," he continued, "but even if I ever had a chance at another one, I doubt we'll ever see one that's as geared toward hardcore gamers as Melee was.

"Melee fans who played deep into the game without any problems might have trouble understanding this, but Melee was just too difficult."

"If we want new people from this generation of gamers to come in, then we need it accessible, simple, and playable by anyone. You can't let yourself get preoccupied with nothing but gameplay and balance details.

"That's where the core of the Smash Bros. concept lies, not on doggedly keeping the game the way it was before," he concluded.

While he might have overdone it with the difficulty curve, Sakurai went on to explain that he's still a big fan of his 2001 masterpiece.

"Melee is the sharpest game in the series. It's pretty speedy all around and asks a lot of your coordination skills. Fans of the first Smash Bros. got into it quickly, and it just felt really good to play."

Are those high demands?

I don't even want a single new character. I just want old stages and alternate costumes. If fans are capable of those things, I'm certain the Smash team is.

Believe me, I'm not setting myself up for disappointment. Not after Brawl. Not after the Dojo.

I use to despise spoilers immensely, and I still do very much so but much less than I did before. I remember trying to purposely not find out a single detail about the game(I never viewed the dojo once). Because I personally don't like to be told anything about a game I might possibly like before I play it, I kinda like the thrill of being surprised.

Oddly enough, there was only one thing I didn't know about the game by the time I played it, and it was that Toon Link was in the game.

This thread is an ocean of fanwankery as it is so I feel no shame in making an alt costume wishlist for every character. Limiting it to a maximum of 5 per character (not including standard dress), and doesn't allow for alts that basically make them another character entirely (although some of them are costumes belonging to very similar characters):

Mario- Tanooki Suit, Bee Suit, Frog Suit, Dr Mario, Punch-Out!! ref outfit
Luigi- Mr L, Cloud Suit, Rock Suit, Boomerang Suit, Peach's dress
Bowser- No idea.
Peach- Mario Kart Wii biker gear
Yoshi- Boshi
Donkey Kong- No idea.
Diddy Kong- No idea.
Wario- "Plumber" costume, Dr Wario
Link- Zora Tunic (from TP), Ordon Farmhand/Skyloft Knight-in-Training, LttP Link, Fierce Deity Link, OoT Link
Zelda- OoT Zelda, SS Zelda, Twilight Robes
Sheik- OoT Sheik
Ganondorf- OoT Ganondorf
Toon Link- Outset get-up, Minish Cap(?)
Samus- Completed P.E.D. Suit, Light Suit, Power Suit (a la Prime beginning, flat shoulders), Dark Samus, Fusion Suit
Zero Suit Samus- Other M Fed Outfit, NES leotard (with green hair), Super Metroid ZSS
Fox McCloud- Assault costume
Falco Lombardi- Assault costume
Wolf O'Donnell- Assault costume (unless he already has that, in which case I dunno)
Kirby- Basically any 5 of his various costumes that don't involve radically transforming his body... (it's weird because he'll be losing the hat anyway when he sucks up another character)
King Dedede- No idea.
MetaKnight- No idea.
Pikachu- Raichu, maybe?
Pokemon Trainer- Leaf, Hilbert, Hilda (LOL at those two), Ethan, May
Lucario- Nooooooo idea. Riley's outfit, perhaps?
Jigglypuff- Wigglytuff/Igglybuff? Not sure.
Captain Falcon- Blood Falcon, Phoenix
Ike- No idea, coz I know fuck all about FE
Marth- same again
Lucas- Claus, Masked Man, Pork Army disguise
Ness- robot Ness
Captain Olimar- Louie
Ice Climbers- No idea
Pit- Old-school Pit (less anime, more like his trophy in Melee), Dark Pit
Mr Game and Watch- pretty sure alts for him are impossible
R.O.B.- again, nothing exists for him

AND IF THEY RETURN

Snake- Big Boss, Naked Snake, Old Snake, Tuxedo Snake
Sonic- CLASSIC SONIC

I imagine if they were to commit to, say, 6 costumes per character, they'd fill in the rest of them with silliness like in SFIV. Anyway, that's just my Nintendo fanboy speculation ejaculated out of my system for the next month or so

No Shadow/Super Sonic alts for Sonic? smh

And I have no idea why they didn't have Shiny colors for Pokemon Trainer and Lucario. Seemed like such an obvious choice.
