Dragon's Dogma Fence Sitters - Footage You Need to See

I love that the day-night cycle actually has meaning in this game. I love having a lantern out in dark woods and trying to make it out alive. Stuff like that is hugely underrated in games nowadays. I always hate it when you enter a dark place and BAM your flashlight automatically goes on or the game simply adjusts the lighting to make it easier to see. I want to do stuff like this myself, it makes me feel more like I actually exist in the game world.

This looks amazing, but it's going to flop. They really need to delay this by at least a couple of months, maybe even right during that dead time during the end of summer. Going against Diablo III in the fantasy realm is just suicide.

Beautiful shot. The lighting is great in this game.

They've already delayed it, it was supposed to be out this month. I don't want to wait a few extra months because of some click spamming game that I don't care about! Let it flop, I'll just enjoy the game.

I think it is going to be a huge hit in Japan, as it has been the most wanted there for awhile now. However, here in the west I think the best case scenario is going to be word of mouth and a gradual build up of support and steady sales. Realistically, I am expecting it to fly under the radar to the tune of a lot of 7.5-8.5 scores, and while it may be a little rough around the edges here and there, it will have a lot of ambitious and very cool features that will give it the rep of an overlooked gem. I guess we shall see.

Wow. And you wonder why the developers increasingly give less and less of a shit about customers, as a whole.

Probably because of things like this.

Ironically, I think there might be less cross-over interest in the two markets than may seem.

Like you, I give not a fig about Diablo, but I love fantasy, and Dragon's Dogma (and Darksiders 2) is right up my alley.

I already have a game where I click a lot. It's called Windows Desktop.

Ouch.

I want Dragon's Dogma very much, and this game flopping, seeing how much care seems to have been put into it, would be a shame.

Sales isn't my thing and I don't want them to delay a game further just because it puts their game in a better position to sell. I don't get any benefit out of that as a gamer, especially when it would be delayed for a game I couldn't care less about. So May would roll around and I would be left with nothing to play for that month.

As long as it reaches expected sales, it's all good, I'm sure their expectations were pretty low to begin with, they seem to be aware of that from their past interviews, they specifically said they feel that they will have no problem doing well in Japan, but the west has been a risk as a new IP, that's why they tossed the RE6 demo to get grab people's attention to give it a try.

If it does better than that, good for them, if it's a really good game, I hope it has legs.

I really like the look of the game.

Yeah, there seems to be quite a few good shots, but they keep taking pictures of areas with dull lighting or at a weird time of the day =(

I know it's generic fantasy style. But there's something about it that just seems so appealing.

Ultimately because the graphics are not generic. They really stand out and you can identify the game immediately. Stunning model work and some of the best executions of fantasy/DnD monsters ever.

This game looks fun as hell. Is there no Online to it though? That seems like such a tease if so. Maybe Capcom will re release it as Ultimate Dragons Dogma with online if so lol.

No, they have actually gone on record to state that the intent was for it to be single player with a unique online interaction system from day one. No co-op added later and it will not be hidden on the disk, lol.

No more generic than other big-budget fantasy role playing games and actually has monster designs that trump most. I don't know, the game just has a look I absolutely love, but I guess I am a sucker for this kind of fantasy in general.

I was ironic for the others posts. I like this medieval world.

I kind of thought that was maybe the case, so I was really just speaking about all the generic comments in general. It is no more generic than most other big budget fantasy games of this nature, and looks even better in many cases. I just don't get it, but opinions of course vary.

Some of the few shots of this game that don't look completely boring from an artistic standpoint IMO. These actually give the game an interesting look. Most everything else I've seen in the fields, dungeons/caves, and towns looks uninspired. Hopefully more areas give off the vibe from those screens.

Do you get to name your pawns? If so, I'm gonna name mine after GAF members.

I did this back in the day with a different forum for Viva Pinata.

So nice to see this title getting more attention, its been one of my most wanted titles since it was announced. It's like a grand Dungeons & Dragons adventure with a cool combat system.

Just your main pawn, as the other pawns are either premade ones or other people's main pawns from the internet.

Indeed you can (your Pawn). You even decide on what kind of personality you want them to have. From benevolent to total ass.

Uhm more sales = higher chance of DD2?

Kind of a weird comment there Derrick01.

Either way Dragons Dogma looks cool as hell in those OXM videos.. Now I know people have been saying shut up with the coop whining but seriously afaik this game started as a 4 player coop game right? At least that's what I read in Edge a really really long time ago. Or at least that's what I think, some gaffers have said that it always was an SP game, but I don't think so.

Either way I wont have the money to buy it at launch I think, Max Payne 3 will come first, but DD soon after. And yes, Capcom sucks at marketing because without OXM I probably wouldnt have bought the game asap after MP3.

They have said all along the intent was for it to be a single player game, with a unique online interaction system. In Hideaki Itsuno's own words:

The whole Pawn system is a very interesting take on the game, and it recalls Demon's Souls and Dark Souls in the way everyone is online helping each other from within their own single player game. Was this always part and parcel of how the game works since day one?

"Yeah, that was the vision that I had. I wanted to make a single player experience that doesn't feel like multiplayer, but it has connections to the Internet and networking with players all around the world.

Basically I felt that multiplayer - at times - is fun, as there are a lot of great multiplayer games out there. But at times it can also be inconvenient, for example, with a game like this you really have to plan with your friends when going online.

You'd say, "OK, well let's meet at 8pm in the lobby and we'll all hook up and play. Stuff like that. So in that sense, you'd also have trouble if you wanted to leave a game, and your friends would be like, "Oh you're leaving? But we haven't finished this quest yet."

I wanted to avoid all of that, and let you play without having to worry about all of those multiplayer things, and just kind of just play whenever you want, but still reap the benefits of networking and online features."

Thankfully my gaming tastes allow me to not be fooled by Rockstar's powerful marketing again and instead pick the better game.

I'm not too sure actually, I could be wrong since I don't remember well either, but I think everyone assumed it was coop (I did too) because Capcom failed to tell everyone what the game is about, the first few videos pretty much showed a closed off area with a few characters with names above their heads fighting a giant hydra.

Even now I think I still see them using the word "Multiplayer" for the pawn feature, it's kind of dumb, so it could've been just that.

Yeah, it could certainly be that as well, maybe Edge thought it would be 4p coop based on that, I dunno I just always had that idea in my head. I like it much better this way though, and I cannot wait to play it.

And Kyoufu, I'll agree about Rockstars great marketing but the game actually looks really good, I have faith they can deliver on Max ( I loved RDR too so... ). Also I haven't played a really great TPS in a long long time.

I usually create beautiful ladies for my character, and now I'm torn on what I should create my pawn. A sister? A male guardian? Or should I just make my protagonist the pawn, and create some dude for myself? Ahhhhh

So this game looks pretty good n stuff. I guess.

Too bad it's so soon after Diablo, or else it might've been a day 1 for me.

I'm really considering switching my Diablo 3 CE for the regular one and get this game day 1... decisions, decisions.

Well, not to be a buzzkill or anything, but assuming both games hold your interest for say 3-6 months, Diablo III will still be full price by then, whereas this will probably not.

Personally though, I am putting D3 on the backburner.
