Speaking of couples, wasn't Ozai feeling sad after he had to banish Ursa? I think that was the only time he showed his (non-evil) human side. I also remember Zuko saying they were all happy in the past. I really wanted to see Ozai's story and thought he should have been a little bit more than a final boss type villain.

edit: I wasn't really sure why he had to banish her. It seemed like no one in the kingdom knew that she killed fire lord Azulon so what was the point of sending her off?

I had a hard time imagining Ozai getting weepy eyed when Ursa left. This was a man who was going to kill his own son, lmao

Well he was sad in that scene, I think that is pretty clear. We just didn't get to see his face. He would have killed Zuko but he probably wouldn't have felt good about afterwards.

Yah, what episode is that from? I want to re watch it and give a better opinion about Ozai.

I don't know...maybe. Ozai never really struck me as a fatherly type of person, more like he thought his kids would be extra loyal minions or something. If the man could bring himself to murder his own son for, not the throne itself, but the first in line spot for the throne, I can't imagine him having misgivings about it.

"Well, I do love my only son...but gotdamn that throne looks so comfy" lol I just can't picture it. Wasn't Ozai established as a one dimensional villain from the start?

They mention it in the artbook as well. "We always get asked these three questions..."

I'm not sure why it was such a huge deal. Logically Ursa should have been exiled somewhere or in hiding. It's not like she would have turned into a zombie or anything.

I think it was "Zuko Alone". The seventh episode of season 2 and overall 27th. He wasn't going to kill Zuko for the throne, it was punishment for betraying Iroh by demanding the throne for himself and so Ozai could know what it felt like to lose a son. Ursa wanted to spare her son and apparently hatched a plan to kill firelord Azulon and somehow pass the throne onto Ozai. I don't know but maybe she got Azulon into some sort of compromised state.

Fine uggggggh

The problem is largely that I think the pacing is off in it, it just doesn't flow in the same way that the show does. It has all the, like, incidental dialogue and the sort of in-the-moment feeling of the show, but like as an overall package it feels wrong.

They should've gotten Rufftoon (who worked on storyboards for s3) to do the official comics. Did you ever see her fan comic Zhao of the Water Tribe? Perfection.

That's all a matter of opinion which has nothing to do with the fact that they are clearly addressing the Zuko's mother subplot in The Promise.

Yu Dao will obviously become Republic City but that's a while off. We've already seen the subject of the mother come up. They didn't spoil the answer in Korra because that would ruin The Promise.

I got more of a oh man you totally have to talk to Ozai vibe from it rather than a mother subplot vibe, but okay. I was just providing you with information as to why I didn't really actually enjoy the Promise, though the Vol 2 previews look good enough that I will keep picking it up.

So I just finished catching up with the entire thread (yes all of it) and the highlight was definitely the Bolin x Korra fanfic "excerpt." I say keep it up gaf.

ANYWAY, super hyped. I've been keeping myself so far off the grid for Korra that I honestly forgot it was coming out so soon. For some reason I thought it was delayed until fall. Imagine my surprise when I saw the listing in the iTunes store.

There are certainly some interesting implications with the White Lotus being a public organization, but it makes sense that they would be behind a concept like Republic City. What with it being a center for all bending, regardless of nation.

The idea of non-benders studying the Air Nomad philosophy is also intriguing. I'm curious how far along into the teachings they go. I'm re-watching Leaf at the moment and there's a distance shot with at least four people in gliders around the island. So unless Meelo is taking to the air on his own (which I doubt), other students would be involved. Clearly they can't be airbenders, but I wonder if they also bond with Sky Bison.

So many questions! Episode 3 seems like an eternity away.

So, I'm finally doing a netflix marathon. Just finished episode 18: The Waterbending Master. There were a lot of episodes that I missed seeing when they originally aired so, I'm having a blast finally watching them.

On a related note, I watched The Avatar and the Firelord yesterday. It's one of my favourite episodes anyway but yesterday I realized, that the colony Roku sees and then goes to confront Saozin about probably is Yu Dao, and therefore Republic City :)

WELP! Korra has a new love interest! So it's now MakoxKorraxPretty Boy

...

He looks like that guy from the other trailer
who probably gets his bending taken away by Amon

I don't think so, the comics mentioned Yu Dao was a tiny village when the Fire Nation arrived, and when Roku confronts Sozin he says that he's seen the colonies, plural.

Alright, forgot that about the tiny village. Still, he probably saw Yu Dao that day, which is still pretty awesome.

How is that a love interest? That's a nameless mook that's going to get jobbed. I'm just being real here and ignoring that you can't have two characters look at each other without ships being built.

They wouldn't have bothered making him looks so pretty if he was a one time villian!

He is probably an Equalist, who may switch sides. Expect some mid-battle love/hate flirting between the two.

Oh fuck you are right. So he MUST be a recurring character.

That guy was on the front of the newspaper in the earlier ep. lol

How do you even remember such small details? I love the fact that such small details even exist.

There's probably going to be some graffitti of a mythological creature in one of the episodes, and it will turn out that the creature gives Korra heartbending.

100:1 odds.

Fuu

Formerly Alaluef (not Aladuf)
lolz.

Katara and Aang was well done and not in the forefront at all, I have faith that Mako and Korra won't be the old fanfic bs of "they hate each other so they want to fuck lol" (which was the basis of Zutara in fandom).
