Media Create Sales: Week 15, 2012 (Apr 09 - Apr 15)

Yeah it makes me wonder what Nintendo will have for next year, Considering attention will probably be focused on the WiiU.

2013 will be left to big third parties efforts (e.g. Monster Hunter 4, possibly Dragon Quest VII, etc.) plus mid-tier Nintendo games (Mario & Luigi or Paper Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby) and some hit like Tomodachi Collection.

Next year will be when Pokémon hits properly, as well as possible Mon Hun and Tomodachi. I don't see SSB 3DS arriving until 2014, Sakurai being Sakurai.
That 3DS Pokémon AR Searcher eShop title is a good move. Provides a Pokéwalker-style hook to the game, and should boost 3DS sales, with the BW2 and eShop combo prodding people into the upgrade.
Also... they've officially managed to monetarise the Pokédex. You can almost hear the cash flowing already.

I'm fascinated by what the big winter 3DS titles are, though. Animal Crossing's basically confirmed, but I highly doubt that's all. Is there much prospect for Mon Hun 4 making it out this winter? Maybe a big Kirby game to go with the anniversary, a la Skyward Sword last year.

Oh man, I'd love a huge Kirby game being their holiday title.

I wonder with nsmb2 coming so soon what effect it'll have on the legs of 3d land? I expect it'll chop them almost dead come august (which is why i'm shocked its coming so soon) but could they start tailing off in the meantime now?

That is a little odd. Nintendo is really packing the 3ds with top shelf games right now. I guess they don't want to take any chances with other competitors, vita or mobile. It seems like NSMB2 will kill off 3d Land but probably Nintendo is comfortable with this if it helps seal the 3ds' status as the leading handheld platform/grow the install base to ds levels.

They probably want to increase the mass market appeal of the 3ds now so that they can turn their focus to the wii u come fall.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Why would NSMB 2 kill of 3D Land ? They are still different experiences.

When Nintendo releases a new title, it tends to have the opposite effect of killing off an older game.

See older Pokemon games increasing in sales around the time of new releases, or people buying Mario Kart DS when Mario Kart 7 was about to come out.

Interesting, I was not aware of that. Did Galaxy see a boost around the Galaxy 2 release?

Currently though 3d land is probably obe of the main pick ups of new 3ds owners, this sales will likely be replaced by nsmb2

No, Japan doesn't care for 3D Mario that much. But NSMBWii did boost NSMB, and the Mario Kart games do seem to boost each other.

I think it's certainly possible that NSMB2 will bring in lots of new casual 3DS owners who will be intrigued by SM3DL and pick it up too. The games are different enough that it's not like NSMB2 replaces SM3DL completely. They could co-exist.

So is there is an explanation for this or is it just some weird phenome?

Well Kid Icarus: Uprising was released almost 2 years after it's reveal, and it came with a stand. Next year would be "almost" 2 years since LM2 was revealed and that sorta fits into your logic.

The games are essentially irrelevant though since Nintendo is focusing on hardware profitability.

My guess would be 3 effects.

1) Increased marketing for the title has an effect on other titles in series/franchise.
2) Those who pick up the latest title may want to own other titles in the series/franchise.
3) A big game will increase hardware sales which nearly always effects all other titles positively.

Well, Super Mario 64 DS kept selling over years even after NSMB was released, in particular in the West. I think that part of this phenomenon (that we saw also for Mario Kart and Pokémon) is the lack of numbers in the titles and the totally different experiences.

This happens with most sequels in general. Many budget releases come out just before the new game comes out, it's not only a Nintendo phenomenon.

Galaxy 1 got a boost the months before Galaxy 2 launch by the way. Small but with this it crossed 1 miliion.

Yeah NSMB2 and SML3D are different enough to keep selling. If it was another 2D Mario I would have my doubts.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Can anyone tell me what the lowest week of 3DS sales was in Japan?
I'd assume it would be the week before the price-drop..

Sticking in the top 30, Theatrhythm seems to have legs, they're just kind of stubby. It's not still supply constrained, is it?

Does anyone know the latest numbers for original Dissidia? I remember ages ago that S-E released some shipment data and Dissidia was at 0.99 million in Japan ( I assume this includes universal tuning). Maybe it could have surpassed million since? It would be nice to get non Monster Hunter million seller for PSP!
