Boredom is a feeling. Not sure I need to know that. It's like if he was telling me he was horny.

More like trolling. WHere is Halo 4 thread, I want to tell everyone in there that Halo makes me bored and sick to my stomach. For no reason really, just cuz

Except the difference is, he clearly stated why he was feeling that way about it and gave support for his statements, rather than just drive-by-trolling like in your example.

Once again, what kind of "discussion" is allowed in this thread?

not to say you are unaware of this, but Smash's first game had Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, and Pikachu.

None of these characters should be considered not-well known or B-Tier (I'll give you Kirby, but just barely)

I am sure that, once all characters are unveiled, we will see 8 characters in games that are in enormously popular games.

I will say this again: it's a matter of perspective. The PlayStation was the system of choice for millions of kids growing up, like the NES was 10 years prior. Obviously, to someone like me, who grew up on Nintendo's stable, the Sony list isn't as good. But that's just me. For someone 10 years younger than me, the reverse could be true. I barely played PS2 - Jak and Daxter means pretty much nothing to me. But if PS2 was my main system as a teenager? There's a good chance I played all those games and really like those characters.

Hes not dumb. What you described above is how you see it. He described it how he sees it. The same way Nintendo fanboys try to make PS characters less relevant. Well in your eyes they are, not in ours. Not that hard to understand really.
i never said anything about the PS franchises being less relevant/irrelevant. i actually agree every last bit this guy said:

As a Nintendo fan since the 80's, Smash Bros was like the realization of, literally, every one of my childhood arguments with friends over Nintendo franchises and characters.

As a PlayStation fan since the PS1 released when I was in high school, this game is like the realization of every one of my young adult (and even adult) arguments with friends over PlayStation franchises and characters.

Is it REALLY that hard for some of you people to wrap your heads around the idea that PlayStation fans have quite the affinity for PS franchises and characters, much like Nintendo fans have quite the affinity for Nintendo franchises and characters?

I mean, FUCK, people.

I'm a huge PlayStation fan. I LOVE Smash Bros. I've been wanting a PlayStation take on Smash Bros so bad that I actually started early development on a 2D, flash based iteration, using handdrawn characters.

This game looks AWESOME, and the more I read about it, the more I see it's not a complete, 1:1 clone of Smash Bros, but it certainly occupies the same genre, of which there are MANY OTHER GAMES that do the crossover fighter route. It really does seem to me that the still trendy "Oh, Sony" mentality is shitting up an announcement that, literally, tons of diehard PlayStation fans have been waiting for.

I guess people take issue with the fact that not everybody is madly in love with Nintendo and their franchise. Please. Most of us have been playing NES games since before some of you were itches in your parent's pants.

This isn't about console wars. It's about fans of series coming together and beating the shit out of each other.

I'll continue to love SSB. I'm hoping PBR will be just as fun, and it's looking like it will be.

so yes, someone who thinks kirby and samus and fox 'weren't really that big' is quite dumb

Uh.

No. I didn't know who the heck samus was until I played metroid prime. Kirby, I didn't know it was nintendo character until I saw it on smash brothers.

It's not a good idea to use anecdote evidence to call another member dumb.
im afraid to ask when you started playing video games. certainly nowhere in the nintendo era or before that. if you grew up with nes or anything before nes, you knew these characters period. when the original smash was released they were all well known.

Oh it's a rip-off alright. I just don't think the "sony wagon" really gives a shit all that much. They're just happy to get a similar game to SSB with all their favourite Playstation characters.
i am happy too. if the game plays like melee (quick thinking/twitch/skill based) then sony has a definite hit on their hands. i'll be sad that smash is no longer 'king' of the genre any more but that's sakurai's dumb ass fault for making brawl the smelly turd yawnfest that it was.

Sony has made enough stuff for playstation consoles that nintendo still hasn't replicated from their side or were late to the party. I think they can copy some ideas from nintendo once in a while.

I mean, did people really feel the ps1 was just a n64 copy? The ps2 and ps3 were copies of the gc and wii?
well the ps1 was originally nintendo's console which we all know sooo.....

I think you're right; the camera pans down and it looks like the character is wearing a long dress.

On a similar note, does anyone recognize this game?

It's displayed on a monitor right next to the unknown purple dress character.

Looks like Fat Princess to me

EDIT: Beaten

Man if they hype and controversy remains this high Sony will undoubtedly have a huge hit on their hands. Might save the company, really.

This on Vita would be stunning.

agreed on this, just trying to see what people mean by "read the previews!" all the time

I guess it immediatly makes me think of all the other SSB clones and how bad they were at it.

SSB isnt a golden idea, its the core gameplay that makes it so much fun. The momentum, the movement, the pace, this is all really hard to imitate and judging by the footage ive seen they are way off. It looks terrible to me in the sense that it looks really uninspired where i think this could really work in a different way. Just tackle it in a whole other angle instead of just making SSB.

Here is a quote from Destructoid:
Each of the six are quite different from one another, with varied play styles that Smash Bros fans will probably feel right at home with. That said, Smash players should not expect an All-Stars character parallel. While this game looks similar, it feels much different.

Other previews say similar things. That's why some of us are telling you to read the previews. We aren't trying to say the game isn't very similar to SSB because it does things different. You just seemed like there was no reason for people to be saying to read the previews, and quotes like the above are why.

jesus man, what the fuck. Im stating why it looks boring and trying to generate a valid discussion. If you cant separate that from actual trolling then what the hell.

People being so defensive about this shit, jeebus

I guess its hard to convey from a preview when we arent actually playing the game/seeing some more final footage, i'll give them that. Just wish there was a better way to express how does it feel different, wish something good and at least different enough comes out of it

I started playing videogame in Japan, since Final Fantasy 3. I mainly played Rockman and DQ, FF, then moved to PC engine Duo.

And no I really didn't know who the fuck Samus was. I never played original metroid nor super metroid since I didn't even care nor knew about their existence.

Just because you know something doesn't mean rest of the world has to know it. You are not the center of the universe.

That is your interpretation. There's a real difference between saying that Sony licenses do not justify such a battle game and saying that Sony's franchises are less known than Nintendo's, which they certainly are. Again, I mentioned examples and you will surely not deny that Uncharted is better known than Pokemon. You'll probably find only few people in the non-gaming area that know Uncharted, but a lot that know Pokemon.

Okay, let's put this into perspective then. You're saying that a Playstation fan service game is justifiable. If that's the case then why repeatedly bring up the fact that no Playstation franchise is as popular as Mario or Pokemon? What's that supposed to prove - that Battle Royale won't sell as many copies as SSBB? Probably, but who gives a shit so long as BR makes a profit and gets the brand recognition out there.

Could this possibly be a character from that series?

Haha, doesn't really fit the acutal outfit but it looks pirate-ish to me...can't really think of many characters with a lot of purple on them really.

No no No. don't listen to him. Go ahead. Let your flame alive.

I want to see meltdown. badly. (brings popcorn)

Having a legitmate discussion, even if it's negative, is not indicative of a meltdown or trolling. People have only gotten banned in this thread for going full stupid here. If anything it's tiring seeing people get branded a Nintendo fanboy for saying anything negative against this.

That's understandable. You just seemed to have such a harsh judgement of the game when we don't know much. We've been told it plays at least a little different. I mean, the game could turn out badly, but we don't really know yet.

and just because you don't know very widespread characters because you've been living in a cave on the moon, it doesn't mean said famous widespread character aren't famous and wide spread

oooohhh shit see what i did there? if you wanna slice it that way you're still in the wrong.

ps
how exactly do you know where the center of the universe is located? oh shit, you don't know that either!

haha

When comparing the way this game looks, it certainly reminds me the most of SSB. But what should they do? I have no clue how to innovate this genre. They can only add license-specific items/powers I'd guess.

No. But I don't call other member dumb because they don't know something I knew beforehand.

That attitude of yours will only get you so far.

and I don't need to know where the center of the universe is. All I need to know is you are not the one.

I hope Last of Us duo is in this one. Would be great to promote the game. You play as Joel and Ellie is one of "Supers" helps you somehow. Like how they did with Sly

They are copying smash brothers. Thats what that wii is for. Also, relax.

The mechanics seem really different from Smash Brothers. It's a heavy inspiration, since Smash Brothers has defined the genre and there aren't enough games in it yet to really get out from under the shadow of Smash, but it's not a carbon copy.

This thread is pretty funny though, you have a angry Nintendo fans crying ripoff at every turn, and fanatical Playstation fans making ill informed statements about Nintendo characters, and both groups are clueless. For the rest of us sane ones, this game looks fine/good, and all this silly bickering is just comedy.

It hurts doesn't it?

That's how Nintendo fans sound to us.

I want a Heavy Rain mall stage, where you're fighting with each other while in the background Ethan Mars is panic-stricken, and desperately searching for his lost son. And when the timer hits 0 he gets hit by a car.

I mean, FUCK, people.

Well said. It's disappointing to see so many people claim as a fact that Sony characters "don't have the appeal that Nintendo characters do." They sure as fuck do for a lot of us who have been PlayStation gamers since the beginning. It is a dream come true to see characters like PaRappa, Kratos, Drake and Ratchet & Clank come together like this.

Mario, Link and Pikachu are big, I'll agree on that. However, Samus? Lol Metroid games usually sell okey. Last one sold like crap.
It's just because you like those characters that you think they are HUGE. Well it's same with us PS fans. Something like Parappa reminds us of PS1 days, you know that console that sold 105+ million units.

chill dude

I was one of those 150 million units. No need to get defensive.

I didnt say anything about the PSBR lineup so I don't know why you automatically think I'm not on board for this game.

I'm only saying that when Smash first came out they came out with their most recognizable MAIN characters. YES... Samus was big back then whether you like it or not (but not as big as Mario or Pikachu obviously).

Parappa the Rapper didnt sell 105 million units.

...FF7 did

Bojanglez

The Amiga Brotherhood
I hope this game has stats coming out of its arse. Also would really like it if it allowed multiple PSN accounts to be logged in locally to track stats that way too.

I brought it up once and was then commenting on subsequent replies. You don't seem to understand this, but that's how a message board works. If I'm now explaining my point, you'd ask me once again why I bring this up?
This is simply poor. There are people on here that enjoy games even when they are not on their main platform. If you don't like this, get off this forum and join a PS-exclusive board.

Well, they could come up with something different in terms of gameplay. Just try to think about how you'd pitch SSB before it came out, they clearly invented a style there, there aint really a need to innovate in it as much as to create something new i guess.

I'm actually on your side but these threads have been a landmine field and it's hard to see where mods are drawing the line. Better not take the risk of a post being taken out of context seeing how fast this thread is growing.

oh i hear you man, wasnt trying to dismiss you
