The characters I hope they reveal next:

PS1: Daniel Fortesque, Blasto
PS2: Ratchet, Clank
PS3: Cole MacGrath, Nathan Drake

They should reveal them in batches of 6, with 2 from each generation of PlayStation, each time.

I say they should do 4 or 5 1st party character announcements before the show.

I disagree. Save the hype for later on, closer to the game's release. E3 will already probably take up a few character reveals and a new playable demo. Their site seems to be counting down to that anyway. Hopefully after that they roll them out consistently, once a month or what have you.

It would be nice if they kept some characters secret until the game is out. I want to have those "A new challenger is approaching!" "Oh shit, it's *insert character*!?" moments that I had with Melee where some of the new characters actually surprised me. I could just go on media blackout, but I'm not totally sold on the game yet. I need to play a demo first and get more details.

So do you guys think there will be any character announcements before e3?

I say they should do 4 or 5 1st party character announcements before the show. (Nathan Drake, Cole McGrath, Jak, Daxter, Ratchet and Clank)

And then focus on some big 3rd party characters at e3.
Yes, they will reveal some more characters the day before their E3 press conference, the website confirms it.

Following the 24 characters rumor, I think this would be a reasonably well-balanced roster:

PS1:
- Parappa
- Sweet Tooth
- Sir Daniel
- Robbit (Jumping Flash)
- Specter (Ape Escape)
- Blasto

PS2:
- Kratos
- Sly
- Jak
- Ratchet
- Valus (SotC)*
- Rau Utu (Mark of Kri)

PS3:
- Radec
- Fat Princess
- Drake
- Cole
- Nariko
- Ellen (Folklore)

PSP/Vita:
- Jeanne D'Arc
- Kat (Gravity Daze)

THIRD-PARTY:
- Crash
- Spyro
- Cloud
- Snake

6 first-party characters from each era, 1 for each handheld, and the 4 most influential third-party characters. A good mix of playstyles, art styles, and popular vs. obscure.

Blasto and Rau Utu could easily be replaced by better suggestions, though. I mainly included them because this list is otherwise pretty lacking in heavies. I'm sure someone could make some good arguments for characters in games I've never played. Sony has a number of RPGs like Wild Arms and Legend of Dragoon that I don't really know anything about, for example.

*On Shadow of the Colossus: I don't think Wander would make a very good character. There are 6 other sword wielders on this list, and there's not anything unique about the way he wields his sword. And besides, what's the draw of SotC? It's not the kid with the sword. It's the giant hulking behemoths.

So I think a better character to represent SotC would be Valus, the first colossus you meet, the one on the box. Scale him down to be playable, of course, but still dwarfing the other characters; think Hulk from MvC. On top of being a more unique representative of SotC, you get a character to fill out the big, slow powerhouse archetype that's not really otherwise represented in this roster.

For the most part, that is a very good list.

If there's gonna be representative from ico/sotc game, I nominate the evil queen from ICO. Cool magic wielder character, can have petrify spell and summon shdowy horn child and maybe a teleport move

I think though that Ratchet and Clank would form one character. I believe Jak and Daxter were the same when they were 'revealed' to be so in the PGN rumours. No reason not to believe them now is there?

I would assume it would be Ratchet & Clank together and Jak & Daxter together as well. No reason to not have them as such unless they really wanted to make them each separate characters, which is highly unlikely.

Fantastical

Death Prophet
Final boss in single player mode should be a giant enemy crab.

We all know who the final boss should be.

They had better not pull that shit and separate them for the sake of a larger roster. They are far better together.

I took out characters from PS1 and PS2 list to include more female characters. And also replaced Rau with Lazarus because I feel his gameplay will be more unique with his ghost hunting abilities and weapons. Added Kazuma to the 3rd party list because come on, he is just as iconic Playstation character as the others. Also replaced Cloud because need more villainous characters.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
What in the hell is that rat doing

It's like a punishment done to "bad girls" in Rule of Rose, basically they tie a rat onto a stick and smother it to the bad girl. The ones doing that punishment were evil bully girls.

There's a part where they tied a dead, maggot-infected rat onto a stick and proceeded to rub into one of the "bad girl's" face.

I..um....

I wonder if a moving level is feasible. for instance, you're fight on top of a big flying ship and you see guy from patchwork heroes cutting the ship to pieces, so from time to time you have to move to different section of the ship.

or you fight on top of one of a colossus so the platform you're standing on will move up and down etc as the colossus move.

I feel like the people suggesting stages like this, or mixing two racing stages together, are kinda missing the point. From the stages we've seen, the idea seems to be:

1) Stages that are thematically disparate (God of War + Patapon, Ratchet & Clank + God of War)
2) Games that couldn't really justify a full stage in and of themselves (Buzz, Hot Shots Golf)

Mixing up two games with similar themes wouldn't be nearly as fun as these.
I'm not missing "the point".There is no big "point" to get. It's mixing up franchises to create fun and interesting stages, what's so hard to understand about that? While having completely different franchises clashing is fun, who are you to say similar franchises clashing wouldn't be just as fun for everyone else? But I mean, unless you want to claim there is some big "point" that I don't "get" . . . sure believe what you want. Feel superior because you "get" something that is flying over all our heads.

Tomb Raider clashing with Uncharted would be cool, Killzone clashing with Resistance would be cool. Crash Bandicoot clashing with Jak & Daxter would be cool. And yeah these more absurd clashes like God of War and Patapon are awesome too. And regarding your second point, I'm sure both the Hydra and Ratchet & Clank could both justify their own stages.

Second the Groovitron. The though of seeing Sweet Tooth and Kratos dancing about is just too good for it not to be included.

Good List. But No Vib Ribbon? For shame. I like the idea of Specter being available but I'd prefer one of the regular apes.

Come on. Are you serious? Mario characters beyond Mario aren't padding, they're just as important to the Mario series as Mario himself, and many of them have their own spinoff games or even series. They don't include multiple characters from the same series because they have to to get a decently-sized roster, they do it because they're popular characters who often present interesting gameplay possibilities.

You don't have to put down Smash to express your excitement for this game. Smash is great. This game looks like it could be great. Nintendo and Sony both have sizable rosters to choose from.

Smash's character selection does a pretty good job with both breadth and depth. As far as this game goes, they should probably go more for breadth. But the second time around, assuming it turns out to be good? Go for a bit more depth, start filling up the roster a bit with multiple characters from different franchises. Throw in Zeus, Dollface, Sully, Daxter and Clank as their own characters, Captain Qwark and Dr. Nefarious, Murray and Bentley, Um Jammer Lammy, whatever.

I'm not putting down Smash, it's just that in the midst of all the accusations being directed at Battle Royale as a rip-off I thought I'd highlight one facet in which the latter has a legit advantage. Maybe padding was the wrong word to use in relation to multiple Mario characters but the point still stands; there is a reliance on secondary characters in SSB and some of them play as clones. If Battle Royale can have 24 first party characters all from different IPs and all with their own different movesets and idiosyncrasies, then that would be a sterling achievement.

That is yet to be proven. So far we have 6 characters that all have unique move sets, but that doesn't mean the rest of the characters won't consist of some clones.

I sure hope not, but it's hard to make 24 or more unique move sets.

I'd rather have a SotC stage where you're fighting on a colossus, and scaling him down that much would lessen the impact of it. I think Wander having a colossus super is most likely, but they could also have an Ico team.

Fingers crossed. From all the videos I've seen and previews I've read, I got the impression that that's what they're going for.

I don't mind there being clone characters, but when Paul Gale states that there will be around 24 characters, then you hope that's 24 characters that all play in their own way without sharing animations and moves.

I was still upset when I noticed that Parappa is on PSN, but only for PSP.

So I went out and purchased a copy on eBay, hopefully it gets here soon.

The stages they shown so far are great and really unique.

I think we are goign to see some really great stuff.

I may be alone here, and possibly need more footage but so far the stages are the only thing that bother me, I can't place it but they just seem a little bland. Not a major concern as we have barely been shown anything.

After Cole was in SFxT, who knows. Maybe Sony made some deal with Capcom, or Namco.

Then again you could say the same about Kratos in Mortal Kombat. Dear god, I don't think I could imagine Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat meeting in what is essentially Smash Brothers.

yeah some kind of cross-promotion schenaningas should be in play here. And Tekken 1-3 are iconic on the Playstation.
