Anyone find it odd that THOR didn't power up Ironman's suit in the final battle? Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt IM get a power boost when Thor shocked him in the forrest scene?

By the time his suit is running down, he has to catch the missile.

3D didn't bother me at all. Wasn't dark or offensive in any way. The film only really utilizes the effect in about 3-4 scenes.

Agreed. I've got two exams tomorrow and I'll be going to a 2D showing of The Avengers afterward to unwind. The 3D, while inoffensive, added absolutely nothing.

I really wanted to see it in 2D, but there werent any showing for that. Luckily the 3d for this movie didnt destroy it, but at the same time it added shit all to the visuals.

I don't think Stark ever told Thor it powered him so Thor wasn't even thinking about it.

Wrong. It was distracting in a lot of scenes. You have to learn how to deal with it by focusing on what you're supposed to be focused on instead of the things popping out.

For example, in one camera angle, there was a streetlight in the foreground popping out from one of the corners of the screen. Just that one tip of a streetlight. It was distracting as hell.

This movie made me vow to not watch another action movie in 3D movie again.

Also I'm pretty sure there's some sort of conspiracy to upsell 3D tickets. When I was there the lady was like "oh the 2D one is getting kind of full, want to watch the next showing which happens to be in 3D?" I've seen other people in this thread giving the same story too.

I wonder what the Iron Man suit was ejecting when he let go of the missile at the end. Two things detach from his shoulders.

But why not just do it in general? Could've been a cool moment.

Just seems odd is was completely ignored/forgotten.

Yea, it would have been a cool team move. They showed another cool one which was ironman/cap but it was only for like 1 second. Wish they focused on these more in the movie.

I had absolutely no problems. So it's not wrong in my experience. Sucks you didn't have the same experience.

I mentioned this a bit back. Not a good thing or a bad thing, just 'unusual' for a movie to set something up and never knock it down like that.

Scene not getting enough love - the climax where Tony Stark stares into outer space, sees the massive army base followed by a nuclear explosion. His eyes growing huge, just staring. I'm pretty sure the music became really quiet at that point.

I forget if the nuclear blast had a "boom" sound or if they did the Serenity "no sounds in space" thing.

It amazed me after so many Marvel movies, that so many people left the theatre before the credits were over. Half the theatre missed the first scene and 3/4 missed the final scene.
Indeed, I was surprised at this, too. Of course, the ones missing the second stinger weren't missing much more than a hilarious brick joke, but still, after missing the stinger in the first Iron Man, I've made it a point of staying in my seat until the last credit is out of sight.

Although I feel bad for thinking the first stinger showed the Red Skull instead of Thanos. I dunno, I'd assumed he'd been teleported to another plane of existence by the Tesseract at the end of Captain America, and I guess I was just looking for confirmation. In retrospect he didn't look anything like the Red Skull...

Also, I know we all know about this gaffe, but nevertheless:

The 3D was completely unintrusive in my IMAX viewing. It added nothing to the experience, but the best thing I can say about it was that I forgot I was wearing the glasses at some point.
Actuals are out .. 207.4M
Holy shit.

Here's an AWESOME article about the FX of the Avengers and just how much work it takes to get this stuff on screen. I highly recommend reading this if any of you are artists or 3D guys in general...

http://www.fxguide.com/featured/vfx-roll-call-for-the-avengers/

Funny thing is, as soon as the credits started, I leaned over to my buddy and was like, "Ugh, I would not want to be the guy who had to model/texture all of that". This article confirms that statement, haha.

thanks for sharing.
I'll leave this here :p

I hope Whedon doesnt do the same shitty 3D for A2. Only for go IMAX or if he really really wants to buck to studio pressure then film it in 3D.

Whedon was originally going to film The Avengers with 3D cameras, but after he had so many problems with them while filming the Thor after-credits scene, he went with regular cameras.

The film will be distributed in 3D, but it wasn’t shot in 3D. The decision was made by the filmmaker. Joss Whedon did a day of testing for The Avengers to decide if he wanted to shoot the movie with 3D cameras. Whedon shot the end of the credits tag sequence in Thor using the RED camera in 3D camera rigs. They lost three and a half hours due to 3D camera rigging issues, which led to Whedon’s decision to shoot the movie in 2D. The movie was shot on the Arri Alexa camera and not film.

will never forgive myself for contributing to this
So glad I "failed" to see this opening night like I wanted to... word of mouth got to me... never ended up seeing it in theaters. When I got around to watching it on blu-ray my expectations were so low and.... still.... oh god, venom... what have they done...

It definitely had the boom. I can't help but notice sounds in every space scene of every movie I see.

Also, for those wondering about the sorts of things Whedon was involved with during cg production, there's an example of it in the fxpodcast around the 15 min mark in terms of animating Hulk.

Did anyone else think this was basically a power rangers movie...as soon as I realized it I could just not get it out of my head....

It felt like that as soon as the corny chitauri enemy started speaking (I think that was the beginning?)

Definitely a Power Rangers movie, not that it's a bad thing.

I left early on purpose, because the previous movies taught me that the short post-credits scene are not really worth it most of the time, and I have no remorse seeing them on youtube when I have paid for the movie.
Most of them are just teasers, the only one that was funny enough was after Iron Man 2 (with Stark discussing his evaluation IIRC). I may have regretted missing the shawarma scene, but since I'm not in the US I would have missed it anyway.

It's funny cause Hulk looks more like Ruffalo than Eric Bana or Ed Norton, great job Whedon on the casting call for him

Hahaha, from the Spoony review:

We don't follow a guy following the Avengers. There's not some kind of Shield doofus. There's not Bob the Shield agent following Captain America around asking stupid questions and getting into wacky hijinks with a couple of racist shield agents or like a robot or some shit.

So true.

I liked The Avengers and I really enjoyed the last hour or so, don't get me wrong. Captain America is a much, much better film though. Read my earlier impression, but The Avengers has zero stakes and for a nearly 2 and half hour film, it's hard to get involved with it on more than just the basic popcorn level. I was hoping Whedon could come up with an interesting story, but he didn't. But, like I said, it's fun to see all these characters together and their exchanges are fun.

See, I don't buy this complaint. Like, not one bit.

You had to know going into this movie that none of the Avengers would die. Now, the SHIELD agents were expendable, and they did die. Coulson died, there was the Thor joke of Loki being adopted, and it was heavily hinted there were a ton of civilian casualties after the final battle. The stakes were high for the mere mortals.

There was the Loki/Stark scene where Loki tossed him out the window. And near the end of the final battle, it was clear the Avengers were losing (Hulk being showered in missles, IM running low on power, Cap (who was clearly injured) & Thor being surrounded, and the only way the Avengers really survived/won the battle was IM diverting the nuke.

So yeah, I don't buy your complaint. It's a comic book movie. Of course the Avengers weren't going to die, and would eventually win.

didnt notice the shot reflected off caps shield. I need to rewatch this movie now!!!

I didn't notice it until my 2nd viewing. It does happen so quick.

I could not tell it was post converted. The detail to the 3D in this movie is fantastic. The only weird parts were the shots that were shot from very far away (like the helicopter chasing the car), and that looked exactly like it would with real life binoculars.

I've seen it twice in 3D, and the 3D doesn't add anything. I didn't mind the 3D, but was disappointed that it do anything for the film. It was just "there"

They always base it off the actor's face. Watch the first two again, it looks like Bana in 1 and Norton in 2. Would be weird if it DIDN'T look like Ruffalo.

This is the first Hulk to actually use the actor directly in creating the look in terms of scans, capture, etc. The fxguide podcast goes into detail about it.
