Here's my crazy idea to make the ant-man interesting enough:
Forget Pym and make Cassandra Lang the lesbian wife of the Wasp.

...how does this make ant man interesting? what does he have to do with this at all?

The Avengers stands on par with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Aliens as far as all-time great escapist entertainment.

Oh hell no.

Give it a few months or something before you say something like this. It's only been opening weekend man. I had fun, but those are...all time great blockbusters there.

I'm not willing to go that far without a few more viewings, but the possibility exists. I can't remember when I had that much fun in a theater.

Yes, and so is The Avengers. After two viewings I'm perfectly comfortable saying so and I will stand by it. It's up there with those two in terms of how much fun I had at the movies, and will be considered an all-time great in the future, guaranteed.

The fact that Whedon refers to important comic issues as "texts" is why he is the perfect choice for these movies.

I keep hoping the Ant-man movie will be about the Eric O'Grady version. It seems like he'd match up best with Edgar Wright as a director/writer, as well. So hilarious, and the character is pretty different from the other superheroes we've seen on screen, at least in terms of personality. He makes Tony Stark look like a humanitarian.

Worst moment is Iron Man and his assistant fixing the Helicarrier.
I disagree. It showed Iron Man working with Cap even though they had their differences. To me, that part felt like something I would see in the panels of an old comic book.

One thing that did not work was the "new" Iron Man prototype suit which looked exactly like the old suit and didn't appear to be any more capable...

Two viewings here, and I have no qualms at all saying that I had the absolute, number-one-with-a-bullet most fun at the theater with this movie. I benefited from two surprisingly (especially on late sunday) outstanding, respectful crowds that came to have a good time with like-minded people.

My mind boggled at how many times I got caught up in the cheers and applause of the big crowd-pleasing moments seeing it a second time, even knowing that they were coming. And the Thanos goosebumps recurred, too. Just all-out, crazy-enormous buckets of big-budget fun.

I remember how I felt walking of of The Dark Knight. I was generally very quiet, in awe of what I had just seen, and voicing my support for Heath Ledger to get an Academy Award for his absolutely chilling performance. That film actually made me think about some philosophical issues in adult terms and consider what the impact of a vigilante might be on the scale of Batman in real life. But you can bet I did not have nearly as much fun in the theater- it's just a completely different tone start to finish.

That said, in terms of overall quality I don't know where exactly I'd put it compared to those two mentioned. It's certainly in the running but I won't deny I should wait for the afterglow to fade before considering all-time status. I really, really enjoyed it.

Yeah, it had new leg-boosters and he can don it without any external equipment (even in midair), but this was a missed opportunity. Perhaps a deleted scene.

The new armor had more artillery fire, the ability to recognize the bracelets and equip to him as he was doing something else which helps on the fly and can be launched. So yes was better and the energy was higher as shown with him using the unibeam and red laser without it draining his armor.

So basically hulk is the most powerful thing there is.... If he wants to be.

He has the potential to be, but no matter how strong he gets, there are people in the Marvel universe than can easily put him down. Hulk worship is kind of funny, it's like it's own mini Batman effect.

Who the hell is ant-man?

3 men. one is a founding member of the avengers marred by an editorial mistake made decades ago. the next is his successor, who adopts the mantle when the previous one bails and becomes yellow jacket, and finally, the one in the pics above is the current one. far removed from the others in just about every way

I thought each Hulk was modeled after the actor playing him.

I believe Ruffalo-Hulk is the first Hulk to use actual data from the actor in creating his look as opposed to the actor simply being a reference. Listen to that fxguide podcast for details.

Agreed, but I actually have the feeling the success of The Avengers is going to boost The Dark Knight Rises' box office because the audience just wants more awesome superhero stuff, and Amazing Spider-Man seems highly unlikely to deliver it. I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Avengers' opening weekend record only stands until the opening weekend of TDKR.

I want to go see it (a third time) this weekend in IMAX, but the Scotiabank IMAX theatre in Toronto only played the IMAX version at midnight on release day, and has Wrath of the Titans now, and presumably (like all the other IMAX Theatres), Dark Shadows on Friday onward.

Wtf

Saw a 1130 am show today. Place was packed, crazy.

A damn good movie. pacing great, funny, great action, great interactions between the actors. Damn, I felt like I was watching a comic book. Gonna watch again next week.

Makes me sad my beloved transformers are not treated as well on film :(

As a side note, people were hyped about the Batman trailer in my theater.

Check out the Empire cinema at Empress Walk in North York. It's still showing it in IMAX. It's easy to get to since it has its own subway stop.

I don't believe that there's anyway TDKR is going to beat the Avengers in the opening weekend, It might lifetime but I see it taking a long time to happen.

Finally saw it and theres not much else to say that hasn't been said. So much fun was had. Glad to see supporting character like Coulson, Selvig and Pepper return to really cement the unifying of the different franchises.

Best moment? Hulk throwing Loki around like a ragdoll. Worst moment? Black Widow's wild ride.

May not have been finished or ready for primetime. He had to get rid of the other one because it was completely wrecked (the boosters weren't even firing properly).

I still think they should refrain from adding anybody until Avengers 3. I feel like the chemistry from the first that can carry over to the next is still near-perfect.

Yeah, pretty sure Jarvis says it's not quite ready when Stark asks him to prep it.

Saw this in IMAX 3D last night and frankly this is probably the best superhero action movie. Tons of action and the whole feel was exactly like that of the animated Avengers films mixed in with more real life theatrics.

Each Avenger was given their due and there were plenty of great moments for each. Even Loki was an excellent villain that really brought the character out.

The 'Puny God' part of the film was probably the part that had the entire theater going.

Oh, and can we give Whedon some fucking props for not employing shakey cam/rapid fire edited action scenes?

he did the opposite with that long shot following each hero.... so damn good.

Most of the industry follows the leader, so to speak, so maybe this will help deter future shaky-cam implementations.

Oh, and did anyone else notice (and like) when he did some of those more unique shots. I know there were several, but the one with the camera in the driver's seat in the cab as it flipped comes to mind as being awesome.
