Damn iPhone. My edit didn't work in time.If you insist.
"Hey, Nintendo! You guys had better give me that patent or there'll be trouble!" *shakes fist*
May I be an honorary member? I've always loved the French!
Baguettes taste like ass; I hate the French
That'd be nice, but it's about as likely as me renouncing my love for Nintendo and becoming a "dudebro" gamer that plays nothing but CoD.What Nintendo need is to have GTA V and Valve on board.
It would be amazing if they had a 5 months GTA V exclusive and DOTA 2/Steam.
And in 2014, my prediction is that it will be much more of a chore for advertisers to find screenshots for such an ad. Will they be able to find such screenshots? Sure, I suppose. But the ad will look silly. And the viewer will have to search/examine the images in detail in order to determine their preference.

Depends on what you consider "lower power consumption".
In the "Southern Islands" (that's the "GCN" that people have been talking about here and there), just under 1.8 GFLOPS has a max TDP of 130W. 2.1 GFLOPS would probably take around 150W. This line has been out for months, so in a year, maybe they'll eke the power draw down a bit.
edit: They can take away features to slim it down as well, mind.
Nintendo is a bit iffy when "after the fact" features are involved. I worry that they'll make minimal use of cloud storage if it's introduced many months after the console itself comes out.
Would someone just make the thread? We need more drama.
Whaaaa..?I just did a background check on you and your first post on GAF was
And don't act like I made that up!

No second circle pad?
GAF will explode if true :lol
From a adverticement point of view, there were actually a lot more focus on hardware power before. Some quick examples:When did this obssession with hardware begin? This gen?
I'm pretty sure no one gave a Damn about the specs of something last gen.
But it's a 3DS analog stick patent...No need for a thread imo.........
why do we think that WiiU itself will be similar or bit more powerful than current gen and ps4 and xbox720 to be far more powerful? We don't have any facts?!! is it more on biased opinions ?

I knew it.
I always felt that there was no need for 2 sticks on the 3DS.
The extra stick was the price Nintendo had to pay to get the two Monster Hunters on their system. Nothing more.

thanks. how much was the original xbox360 consumes in terms of power, is it similar?? will there be heat problems?
Some of us are left-handed. Symmetric controls are a really nice way of mitigating this. Frankly, I think the system should be able to hard-toggle every game so that the left- and right- side controls are swapped based on user preference.
All I know is:why do we think that WiiU itself will be similar or bit more powerful than current gen and ps4 and xbox720 to be far more powerful? We don't have any facts?!! is it more on biased opinions ?
We're going to get a lot of comical comparing going-on in the coming years. Anyone claiming that the visuals of the U's better titles are "blown out of the water" will be talking out of their rear-end. Will the U be outdone? No doubt. But I don't think it'll be as dramatic as most expect.I agree, people already do it in comparisons between most PC and console multiplatform games, you certainly wouldn't say there is 10x more detail in PC games, and PC is 10x more powerful according to Carmack.

As e3 gets closer Gaf gets more and more pessimistic.
Although Miyamoto/Iwata have both said that Wii U won't be participating in the power games.
Ugh.All based on pure speculation and a few people/websites who have inside sources.
Otherwise we have no official facts.

I can't see them doing this when they already said 2012.Y'know what's really gonna kill some folks around here, come E3? Nintendo's bringing a new console.. and they have to wait at least another full year, haha..

Not really in those cases (unless your being sarcastic), but it just shows that the focus on hardware power isnt anything new (father_brain already posted one example that is even older than the commercial i posted).very well.. its true.. marketing does affect on people...
Oh.. I meant "they" as in the other consoles..I can't see them doing this when they already said 2012.
yes true..
regarding Miyamoto/Iwata discussion was referring to new game experiences but they are not focusing on graphics as the main selling point.
Because people get way to emotionally invested.I agree. Diminishing returns?
I think it's a defense mechanism because people don't want to get hurt if things turn out disappointing.
Ugh.
For the billionth time, Iwata was saying that not all games need high-end graphics. It had nothing to do with hardware at all.

Techies, how does these rumored Taito Type X3 specs compare to the rumored Wii U specs?
CPU: Intel Core i5 2400 (3.1Ghz)
Chipset: Intel Q67 Express
Gfx: AMD Radeon HD 6770
RAM: 2GB DDR3
HDD: 160GB SATA 3.0 (2.5")

Oooooh. That explains everything.Oh.. I meant "they" as in the other consoles..
Didn't Microsoft have to pay something like fifty million dollars for exclusivity on some useless GTA IV DD add-on? I shudder to think how much they'd demand to have their game absent on consoles with a combined >120 million user base already prepped for the title via a prequel release during a holiday season. I don't think Nintendo can foot a quarter billion dollars or more for bragging rights.

I'd love to see Nintendo do some 1990s-style aggressive advertising about how, "unlike the others" games are and shall always be the central reason for their systems' existence. Especially if one or both of the others decide to go crazy-heavy on non-gaming features.Used to love those commercials, especially the Game Gear/dead squirrel ad. '90s Sega ads were the best.
This stuff about how many frames per second are gained would mean more if we knew what the fps was before. 5 extra is a lot different depending on if it was 60, 30, 20, or 1 before.IdeaMan said:before the arrival of the mass production dev kits that will bring at least 5 more fps without efforts (less than 10 though),
I think Van Owen is here to make you feel like your posts have sometimes made us feel, BurntPork.BurntPork said:What?

Are you some kind of word twisting machine? Oh god, my poor brain cells...
This is a bit more all-encompassing then what you're asking I think, but I'd say being a competent successor to what came before. Don't screw up the price, don't arrive late missing features other released machines have, and people won't have a big reason to switch brands. And given all three machines put up big numbers, they all have the chance to pull this off.Plinko said:Getting away from all the graphics talk for a bit, what do you guys in here believe is the #1 absolute most important aspect for console success early on in next generation?
Is it price? Novelty? New ways to play? Graphics?
I'm just curious.
Obviously not IdeaMan, but as someone who's read or at least skimmed most of these speculation threads, I think it really comes down to different components seeing different amounts of improvement. Seems like we might have a situation where compared to the Xbox 360 the CPU can do 1-2x as much, GPU is 2-3x as capable plus has newer features, there's 3-4x the RAM, and of course 5x the disc space. Then how obvious this improvement is on TV will also differ based on what's going on with the controller screen.TwilightPrincess said:Thank you for keeping the pessimism in this thread down. But I wonder what your subjective x factor looks like. You surely don´t know everything about the specs. But if you´re telling us "It´s not 1,5x, it shall not be 5x", what is it then? 2x or 4 x? Tell us your ideas about that Even if you allready told us that some devs feel it looks twice as good. Spill your x-factor, you french tease
I´m staying with 3x, will i be disappointed?
Dude, no. Wii U is not going to compare favorably to GPUs that were sucking power, had 1-2 gigabytes of RAM to themselves, were selling for $400+ in 2010, and still cost multiple hundreds of dollars. I got a mid-range 2010 card and it sounds like Wii U has a fair chance of matching it.Gahiggidy said:I expect it to compete with 2010 high end hardware.
It doesn't list every game, but this Beyond3D thread lists rendering resolutions for a ton of PS360 games. 1280x720 seems most common, though you'll find everything from 1920x1080 to 960x540--and sometimes a little lower per eye for 3D mode.Hiltz said:Isn't it true that most Xbox 360 and PS3 games run at 720p or sub-HD ?
Well, it does matter a little. Not all displays do it equally well, so leaving it to the set might look worse or introduce a bit more lag.EatChildren said:Makes me wonder if the Wii U will actually handle the upscaling rather than displays. I doubt it, but you never know. Not that it really matters.
BIG NEWS!!!
...
The new Ben 10 game announced for Wii, DS, 3DS and Wii U. XD
BIG NEWS!!! WHAT A STYLE!!!
:lol
Well, Nintendo's slogan was "now you're playing with power"yes u r rite, focus on hardware power and exaggeration is there for all the generations. and somehow nintendo is not very good at it
It's very easy to get caught up in the hardware speculation, the giga and tera FLOP rumours, will it run games at 720p or 1080p, 30 FPS or 60 FPS, will it have big third party support, UE 4 / Cry Engine 3 support ect (as i have been in this very thread).
Just think about this number tho... 12 gigaFLOPs..., thats what the Wii GPU was, think about Skyward Sword, Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, NSMB, Smash Bros Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Kart Wii.
Now lets take the lowest possible guess on Wii U GPU... 400 gigaFLOPs !.
If Nintendo can make games as great as those i just mentioned with 12 gigaFLOPs of GPU grunt then just imagine what they can and will do with 400 !, add 1.5 GB's of system Ram and at worst a 360 like CPU and i really don't think we have much to worry about.
Nintendo's first party games are going to blow everyone away.
On top of that you have all the games finally running in HD, a decent OS, a decent online Store and a decent online MP platform, hopefully an Achievement like system and a new innovative tablet controller.
It's easy to get down or burnt out on speculation but hang in there for 3 weeks today it will all be over and i don't think any Nintendo fan will be disappointed !.
Choo Choo, E3 here we come !!! .
Don't be so angry at yourself!
PS:
#10071: Reggie claims Zelda demo is 1080p
#10250: FIFA 13 confirmed for Wii U
#10301: (aside) interesting flowchart of third party developers
#10317: heaping load of bul I mean, poster from mmo-champion.com suggests Wii U uses quad core processor and Radeon 5850 (~2TFLOPS gpu desktop, 0.8-1.0 TFLOPS mobile model); BurntPork promises to make out with hobo if true (#10319)
#10603: Ben10: Omniverse announced for Wii U
