I've been jumping wrong.

This exactly. If you are standing on a vehicle (or the earth) moving at speed X and jump into the air, you are applying a vertical acceleration to yourself. This does not change or remove the horizontal speed you already had (even if you cannot perceive it). Thus while you are in the air you go up and down while also continuing to move to the side at the same speed. Thus you land on the ground in the "same spot", which in actuality is not the same spot at all, only it seems to be relative to where you are looking.

i believe what he's really showing is that the earth's rotation isn't accelerating/decelerating.

If a person walking forward throws a ball in the air, he doesn't walk past it. The ball goes up into the air with the same forward speed as the person because it shared his momentum until it left his hand. The same principle applies to objects on the surface of a big rotating body like the Earth.

Galileo kinda dealt with this already, so you and your video are a LTTP by a few centuries.
